Your story is absolutely wonderful. Thank you for writing and sharing

Calnaurien · 31 August 2017 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

Thank you for a great story! Normally I avoid AU but this one was delightful. I think my favorite moment was when he met Thranduil. And when I realized "who" was Beleg I shouted out loud. Great tale!

Tari · 15 April 2015 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

Sadly the story is over. I love the way you brought Beleg into the mix. This was a very enjoyable story. Since I started reading it so late, there was no gap in between chapter. Thank you. Now, what to read next?

Tari · 3 April 2015 · Chapter 25

Thingol is a sly fox. It will be interesting to see what developes between Mablung and Haldir. (Please excuse any misspelling of names. I should have written them down before posting my reply.) P.S. I'm still in shock over the loss of Fiondel. I shall greatly miss his postings. It seems that people aren't writing much anymore. Thank goodness for the archives.

Tari · 31 March 2015 · Chapter 23

I was absolutely shocked when I got your response saying that Fiondel had passed away. What happened? I just emailed him and wondered why I didn't get a response. I am sick at heart about this.

Tari · 27 February 2015 · Chapter 17

Wow! How awesome to meet Lord Ulmo in person and receive his blessings. Haldir should be on cloud nine so to speak.

Author's reply

Given the circumstances, I think Haldir was just plain relieved to have some good news at last. I apologize for the delay in my review replies. I was hit far harder than expected by Fiondil's passing and then I fell and broke my shoulder and injured my wrist a few days ago. Sometimes life sucks and then gets complicated. ACK! Your reviews have been a most welcome bright spot in this in all of this. Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing! I hope you continue to enjoy the story!

Tari · 12 February 2015 · Chapter 11

This was a fun read. Poor Haldir, getting hit with a live fish. LOL He might as well give up and get married. It will be good for him.

Author's reply

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Tari · 26 January 2015 · Chapter 6

As a devoted reader of Fiondel's stories, I noticed that you were one of his proof readers so I decided to read one of your stories which I am doing. I am very much enjoying this tale even though I am still angry with PJ for taking the elves to Helm's Deep and getting so many of them, including Haldir, killed.

Author's reply

I am glad you are giving my story a read. I did not like PJ killing the elves at HD either, so I did something about it! LOL I hope you continue to enjoy the story. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Sweetpea Deepdevler · 17 January 2015 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

Thank you SO much! I love this story--it was so touching, amusing and realistic! Thank you again!

Author's reply

Thanks for reading and reviewing! I appreciate it so very much!

Twoflower2 · 3 July 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

Thank you for a great story. To me, the earthy and intense personality of the movie Haldir does seem to belong rather in the Silmarillion than among the weary and melancholic third-age Elves. Apart from that, there are so many things about your tale I simply love: the interesting idea of time travel in ME, not one but two explanations for the time travel, world-building (the life under the stars with its culture and customs), culture clashes between the different groups of the Eldar, fun cameo appearances of notable Silm characters. I also like how Beleriand experiences have mellowed Haldir's somewhat arrogant and abrasive personality into that of a sage and tolerant leader. And it seems that his equally proud son is beginning the same learning curve and is on the way of becoming the great and wise hero we know from the Silm. A fun epilogue with lots of embarassed royalty.

Author's reply

I apologize for the late reply. When one's To Do list includes, among other things, building an ark, you know it's been a crazy summer so far... I'm pleased you enjoyed this story so much. Haldir does indeed have a lot of life and attitude in him to be a Third Age elf :-) It took a very long time (years) to write this story because of the very little that is known about the pre-First Age elves and about the Galadhrim in general. I had a lot of guessing and piecing together to do to figure out how the early version of these elves might have behaved, and how much the Third Age elves had been influenced by the other clans with whom they had interacted, and then determine the conflicts which would have arisen. Watching Haldir change through all of this has been fun. I had to lay ground work for his son's development so that it was logical that he became who he did and yet not be obvious about it. The epilogue was just plain fun to write, I have to admit. Thank you so very much for reading and enjoying and telling me your thoughts. Cheers!

MikoNoNyte · 15 March 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

I kept hearing what a wonderful story this was and, lo! the day I went to load it into my Nook was the day you finished it! Fortune smiled, and so did I. What a wonderfully delightful story. I was not expecting such a serious turn, but you took me on a very long ride and whoosh! I laughed, and cried and omg did I cry! I'm not the kind to get teary eyed over fanfic, but you touched on oh-so-many heart strings with this. I wondered from the moment Haldir and his brothers arrived in the Age of the Trees WHAT you were going to do and how you would accomplish it. As the Doriath episodes progressed I was on tenterhooks with speculation. Until that final chapter! All of Celeborn's sighing and mental moaning completely slipped my mind until that last chapter. And Beleg! I was almost thinking either he would not show or it would turn out to be Haldir (which would not have been a good choice in my opinion) but you did me one better! His son! He could die in peace now. The epilogue had me giggling and smiling and very glad to have read this opus! Thank you for all your hard work, your sweat, blood and tears to put this piece together and put it up for others to finally stumble upon and read.

Author's reply

I apologize for taking so long to reply to your review. I have been drowning in RL lately... I am so happy you enjoyed this story so much! Thank you for your compliments and your comments! I had so much fun with the characters in this story. I'm thrilled that you giggled through the epilogue. It was long tough story to write and reviews like yours make it all worthwhile. Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing this story and for being moved to laughter and tears in all the right places.

Rhyselle · 22 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

Ellie, this story just totally absorbed me, and left me crying, laughing, and wanting more with every chapter. I was awed by the concept when I first started to read it, and you definitely carried it through with talent, creativity and imagination. I truly loved your characterization of Haldir and his brothers and friends, and your original characters were just wonderful. I wondered when I realized what Taurion's name meant if it was he who was Beleg Strongbow, and I liked how you strung that out to the very end of the story. One of the things that really struck me was the marvelous way you described Lord Ulmo's incarnation when he interacted face to face with Haldir. I could see him in my mind, and, from now on, I think your description will always color my mental image of the Vala when I read about him in other tales. The time and effort you have invested in this story was time well spent, in my opinion. I am so very grateful that you persevered, even when things got frustrating and research and writing were hard. This is now listed in my top 10 favorite Tolkien fanfictions, and be assured that I will come back and re-read it often. :-) I will be recommending your story to my friends, as well. Oh, and the epilogue was a real treat! Thank you for tying the beginning and end together so very well! Well done! :-)

Author's reply

I'm am so glad you enjoyed this tale and took the item to tell me so. I put a lot of time and energy and research into it, trying to be sure I had details of history and culture and behavior as best I could achieve them. Ulmo was an unexpected surprise in this story. I had some of Fiondil's perceptions of Ulmo in mind as well as descriptions of him from Tolkien when I wrote him. The sea is an ever-changing, fickle thing and I think that the Lord of Waters would have been just as capable of a wide range of emotions and not take himself too seriously and yet be a dangerous character as well. Water wears down all things no matter how mighty and strong and yet it conforms in shape to all that it touches. I'm sure Ulmo would have been glad to work his way into helping Haldir and been glad of the opportunity once called upon. I am deeply honored that you have put this story in your top 10. Your comments made my week. Thank you so very very much!!!!

Glory Bee · 19 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

Ellie this has been an absolutely brilliant story and I have eagerly awaited it chapter by chapter and never once was disappointed.:) I was surprised and pleased to discover the identity of Beleg. The epilogue was a very fitting conclusion and the reunion with Celeborn moving. I also liked seeing Galadriel feeling for once completely in the dark with what had happened.:)

Author's reply

I am so glad you have enjoyed and have stuck with it at JFA and here. I had so much fun and frustration writing this tale, but it is all worth while when I hear that others have enjoyed it so much. I felt they all needed to get back together once again and figure it all out together. It must have been difficult for Celeborn to keep Galadriel from learning what he knew. It would have been awfully difficult to explain anyway. Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing and enjoying this tale!

curiouswombat · 14 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

And oh my goodness what tales there will be to tell - and how long it will take to tell them - a good thing that they have all the time in the world!

Author's reply

Sorry for the delay in my reply. I have been very busy lately. I think they will need that much time with so many tales to tell and so many perspectives to tell from. Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing and enjoying this tale!

curiouswombat · 14 February 2013 · Chapter 29

A very fitting ending to a fascinating story - I am very taken with the idea of Haldir being his hero's father! And I actually feel quite sorry for Celeborn having to cope with knowledge of Haldir et al for so long that, of course, they would not have themselves.

Author's reply

Thank you so very much! I had the ending planned pretty much from the beginning. It just made sense to me somehow. I'm so glad I was able to pull it off. I pity Celeborn as well for what he knew and could not say. It is a testament to Celeborn's character though that Haldir and his men felt so strongly about him twice. Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing!

Morn · 9 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

I've really enjoyed this story. It was delightfully different and intriguing. Tolkien nd time travel doesn't sound like it should work but you did really well with this. I liked the twist with Beleg before his death. And imagine explaining this now to everyone. Oh dear! They obviously thought he was babbling on his deathbed and it was all true. Great story. :)

Author's reply

Thank you so very much! I'm relieved the story worked as well as it did. It certainly was a challenge! He was so worried about getting to meet Beleg and I thought it only fitting the way things turned out for him. I'm sure Beleg, Mablung, and Celeborn were all suitably shocked when the future unfolded as he said it would. Thank you so very much for reading, reviewing, and enjoying this tale!

obsidianj · 9 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

That is a satisfying end to this story. There is nothing better than to sit together at the end of an adventure and discuss all the events and see the view point of everyone. In this case with thousands of years between the major events it will be something to occupy them for years to come. It will make great good-night stories for the little ones, since it had a happy ending.

Author's reply

Thank you very much! I felt they needed to meet up again in Valinor and, yes, their stories would have been grand as Haldir predicted they would be. Thank you so very much for reading, reviewing and enjoying!

Ellynn · 8 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

Nice ending. It's good to see them all together again. :)

Author's reply

Thank you very much! I thought it would be nice to have them all meet again and figure things out. Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing!

Agape4Gondor · 7 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

Bravo! What a fun story. I am so glad you struggled through the logistics. It shows. Beautifully written. Thank you!!!

Author's reply

Thank you so very much! It was a very huge ginormous struggle. I am so relieved that it worked out so well. Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing and enjoying this tale!

Siiw · 6 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

And you have left me almost speechless as well. What an amazing story! Your Elves are so vivid and believable, I love how they also have their flaws and primal instincts just like we humans have.

Author's reply

Thank you very much! I'm so pleased you enjoyed it! The are far more fun when they have flaws and urges and a good sense of humor. Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing!

Sunny · 6 February 2013 · Chapter 30: Epilogue

I see that their stay in Mandos hasn't killed of the time-traveling ellyn's sense of humour. Though even some of the Kings in Aman seem determined to cause Haldir embarrassment. I rather liked the hints of just how the Telerin ships were properly "blessed". And clearly a good attempt has been made to properly "bless" the palaces, too. :-D It is logical that Námo would have kept Haldir and his friends in his halls until after Halm's Deep - ir would not have done to have him get reborn before he was actually "officially dead", and particularly before he was born born, after all. But once that had happened, I'm sure he booted them out rather quickly. (I don't know if your view of Námo is similar to Fiondil's but if it is, I'm sure the six of them gave the Vala and his Maiar a lot of grey hairs!) Lovely to see all the meetings here, and Haldir got to tell his tale, though at this point the wives probably knew about where - and when - he had come from. I', sure they (the wives, that is) had a few words to say about their husbands' secretiveness, too!

Author's reply

The sense of humor did indeed survive intact. I do follow Fiondil's view on Namo and I'm sure that the six did indeed cause much mayhem and gray hairs in Mandos. The blessing was a fun idea and, hey, why not? Olwe surprised me when he mentioned that they bless the palaces similarly. LOL! I think the wives were unhappy with having to wait so long to learn the truth and I'm sure that Gilwen probably had a fish or two on hand with which to discipline Haldir *snicker*. This story was fun to tell. Thank you for enjoying it as well. Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing!

obsidianj · 2 February 2013 · Chapter 29

Woa! I didn't see that coming. I was wondering how the whole time travel thing would play out with the elves being immortal. I came to the conclusion that Haldir and his friends had to die or meet themselves in a future time. But I didn't see it coming so soon. Taurion being Beleg is a great idea and the revelation was handled very well. I re-read the prologue and in light of the last chapter some phrases make more sense. Celeborn indeed knew more than anyone else.

Author's reply

The best solution I saw was for them to die and for Haldir to be rewarded with the knowledge that he had sired and trained Beleg. I had planned for Haldir being Beleg's father from the beginning, but getting to that revelation was the real trick! The Sindar were persnickety and difficult and Mablung kept acting up and Taurion had a bad attitude. No one was working together as they should have been! Poor Celeborn in sending the warriors from Lorien did know all too well what was going to happen to them, but he had to make his past come to pass as well as their future... Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing and for enjoying this tale! I think you'll like the epilogue - a there are a few loose ends to be tied up there.

eiluj · 30 January 2013 · Chapter 29

Halfway through this chapter I figured Haldir would turn out to be Beleg. But I wasn't at all expecting an ending so soon!

Author's reply

I had hoped that people would think that Haldir would turn out to be Beleg. But if you go back and read carefully the observations that Haldir makes about his son from say Chapter 15 or so on, then you will see some hints in those of what was to come concerning Beleg. I know it ended unexpectedly, but I knew from the beginning when I started writing the story way back when what this end result would be and the great revelation about Beleg. I just couldn't have Haldir and those who knew the Noldor and knew Quenya interacting with Finrod and that crowd. I'm pleased that you didn't see either the ending or the revelation about Beleg coming. It was part of my evil plan. LOL! Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing. Be sure to stay tuned for the epilogue!

Sunny · 30 January 2013 · Chapter 29

So Haldir's great hero and idol Beleg Cúthalion turned out to be ... his own son Taurion! And I am sure that he (Beleg/Taurion) was only doing his own poor best to live up to his own ada's shining example. Talk about the snake biting its own tail! :D Well, Taurion won't be around after the War of Wrath to ensure that his family and those of his gwedyr go over the sea, but I'm sure that Celeborn will do it for him.

Author's reply

Haldir was very very surprised to say the least. No, Taurion won't be around, but you will find out in the epilogue how getting the family to Valinor was handled. I may even make you laugh with what goes on. Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing!
