Clever Sam! Elves are so 'laid back', they might forget that Sam has limited time to learn everything he needs to know.

Author's reply

They do seem think there's all the time in the world. Sam won't let that stop him from learning though. ;)

Antane · 2 October 2012 · Chapter 25: Neighbors

He really is settling in. I'm glad for him, though still sorry his heart's brother is not there, but in many ways, he is. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

He really is. He's found a new family and home here beyond the Sea, more than he could have ever hoped for.

Antane · 2 October 2012 · Chapter 22: Near Water

Sam has come home indeed. How splendid for him. Frodo lives still in spirit. I wonder what the dark paintings were about? How wonderful that he found peace and happiness here. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

The dark paintings were likely images from the Quest, especially Mordor. Sam would have likely discarded them before anyone had a chance to see them, but he would have remembered them. To now see paintings full of life and hope would be the final proof for Sam that Frodo was healed.

shirebound · 2 October 2012 · Chapter 25: Neighbors

What a blessing for Sam to be neighbors with such joyous, light-filled beings. Here are the Elves he's always dreamed of!

Author's reply

Sam would never have imagined this when he was sitting at Bilbo's knees as a child!

Andrea · 30 September 2012 · Chapter 24: Settled

That’s when I understand it: we’re just one large family providing for each other. A wonderful concept, indeed! Sam doesn't even have to decide what to contribute. The Elves have already chosen ;-)

Author's reply

Sam will be a busy, and happy, cook during his retirement.

Dreamflower · 30 September 2012 · Chapter 24: Settled

What fun! I love the idea that Sam just arranges those pictures in a Family Tree without even thinking about it. And his ability as a cook is going to make him a LOT of friends. Do Elves ever get fat, I wonder?

Author's reply

Sam's a Hobbit through and through. Family trees are in his blood. ;) LOL! I don't know if Elves get fat, but Sam will certainly have fun trying to find out!

shirebound · 30 September 2012 · Chapter 24: Settled

I wish I could live there, too. What an idyllic community.

Author's reply

It's just what Sam needs to feel connected and a part of things - and just what Frodo would have needed as well.

harrowcat · 30 September 2012 · Chapter 24: Settled

I love that idea of everyone contributing as one big community.

Author's reply

It certainly has its appeal! And Sam has found a place for himself now, thanks to it and his new family. :)

Larner · 29 September 2012 · Chapter 24: Settled

What a wonderful concept! Yes, both Hobbits would appreciate this as they find out their own place within the interdependent family provided by the village.

Author's reply

Sam (and Frodo) will quickly adapt to the commune, now that he understands it as one large family helping each other. And it will give him a sense of purpose to be able to contribute to it.

Dreamflower · 27 September 2012 · Chapter 23: Garden

Aww...how sweet this is! I'm so happy for Sam to find all this evidence of Frodo's industry and happiness, and also that he is finding old friends and new in his new home!

Author's reply

Frodo certainly spent his time well - not a moment wasted. Sam will be getting settled into his new home shortly. :)

Larner · 27 September 2012 · Chapter 23: Garden

A perfect welcome to his new home. And just the kind of garden I'd expect from Frodo.

Author's reply

Frodo took great care in planning his garden, both for himself and his Sam.

Andrea · 27 September 2012 · Chapter 23: Garden

I smile as I think of my Rose and how she’d love it here. She’d charm all these fine folk, of that I’ve no doubt. Healing has greatly progressed! Sam is no longer sad when he thinks of his Rose. No, he's smiling at the memory of her. That is very good!

Author's reply

Sam still has his moments of melancholy, but it's hard to resist the glory of Aman for long. :)

shirebound · 27 September 2012 · Chapter 23: Garden

I'm enjoying this gentle story so much!

Author's reply

Thank you, dear! (hugs)

Larner · 25 September 2012 · Chapter 22: Near Water

How in keeping with Frodo's nature as I've envisioned it! Lovely place for Sam also to find his healing as he prepares to follow Frodo and Rose on that final journey.

Author's reply

Frodo would want something small and functional, cozy and easy to keep up - more time to just enjoy it. Sam will love it for the same reasons. :)

Andrea · 25 September 2012 · Chapter 22: Near Water

A perfect smial with an additional guest house! Very clever of Frodo and also very convenient for guests and host. I also like the flexibility of Frodo's picture gallery. Last but not least: the pantries (plural)! If that doesn't make a hobbit happy!

Author's reply

Frodo would want to play host, and all his guests will be much taller than him - a proper guest house would have been essential. Frodo would probably run out of walls if he tried to display all the paintings at once. ;) And of course, you need more than one pantry. Any hobbit knows that. :D

Andrea · 25 September 2012 · Chapter 21: Homecoming

“Do I have a Gamgee riding before me, or a Took?” he asks. “Neither. I’m a Gardner,” I quip, earning another laugh. Great answer, Sam! I'm looking forward to finding out more about Sam's new home. Fortunately, the next chapter is already here :-)

Author's reply

Sam's got some gumption in his old age! ;)

Dreamflower · 25 September 2012 · Chapter 22: Near Water

Oh, I hope Sam will tell us about some of his discoveries in Frodo's (now his) home! It sounds delightful!

Author's reply

We'll learn some of the things he'll find, but he has a lot to explore in his new home and town. He's going to be busy getting himself acquainted to everything. :D

shirebound · 25 September 2012 · Chapter 22: Near Water

What a cozy, welcoming home. Sam will enjoy the garden, and also reading the books Frodo's left for him.

Author's reply

Sam will have much to keep him occupied and he'll be touring the garden soon. :)

Larner · 22 September 2012 · Chapter 21: Homecoming

Ah, perfect! Not an attempt to recreate Bag End as I've seen time to time, but a proper Hobbit hole in an truly Elvish setting!

Author's reply

I doubt Frodo would recreate Bag End - all those rooms that will never be used. It would seem terribly wasteful to him. This will be closer to the size of the house in Crickhollow, but a smial instead.

shirebound · 22 September 2012 · Chapter 21: Homecoming

What a beautiful setting for Sam's home, and it's nice that he has neighbors. The questions (all very practical) he asked Gandalf made me smile.

Author's reply

Sam is ever practical. Some things never change. ;)

Andrea · 19 September 2012 · Chapter 20: Sightseeing

The healing of Sam's old wound (the loss of Frodo) was started by his family and completed with his arrival in Tol Eressea and with the reception of Frodo's letter. The loss of Rose is still new. But I'm sure this wound can be healed as well. This time, the Elves and Gandalf will take over the place of his family.

Author's reply

Oh, indeed! Sam is content that Frodo was happy and healed, but Sam is still in mourning for his dear wife. He very much needed this respite in order to find healing.

Dreamflower · 18 September 2012 · Chapter 20: Sightseeing

I love the evidence we keep seeing of Frodo's healing and of all the things he found to do in his new life-- Sam's grief is very new, but the grief of being widowed never really goes away. Yet he will be healed anyway, I do think.

Author's reply

These first few weeks will be the most enlightening for Sam, as he learns his way around and meets more of Frodo's friends. The loss of Rose is still quite sharp for Sam, but he's determined to make the most of the time he has left.

Larner · 18 September 2012 · Chapter 20: Sightseeing

Oh, when he is ready for it, his time to be whole will indeed come for him. A glorious realization, that Frodo knew joy here!

Author's reply

Indeed, Sam will be whole again someday. In the meantime, he's learning quite a lot about Frodo's time in Tol Eressea. :)

Antane · 18 September 2012 · Chapter 20: Sightseeing

That's great Sam can see that painting - wish we could! - and know what his treasure did. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Sam must have stood there for some time, just looking at that painting. What a sight to see!

shirebound · 18 September 2012 · Chapter 20: Sightseeing

One of his ocean paintings even hangs in the grand hall of the theater here. I love that detail.

Author's reply

I'm sure Frodo was quite proud of that painting, if the Elves deemed it worthy for their halls. :)
