I suspect the answer to Vorondur's question is "Both!" Glorfindel has had a long time to get used to being in charge of the most of the Wiseman Elves. It's hard to adjust to the new status quo. And of course, he'd have loved to been beside Legolas chasing after the bad guys. I like the idea of Legolas being on the police force. In time, I think that even the anti-Elf party will quiet down when they see the Elves more integrated into the everyday life of the town. Of course, there is the fact that the former Prince of Mirkwood's image is now all over the Internet. The possible consequences of that should be interesting. I suspect that most people will take it as a hoax video but any other Elves out there who see it will know it is real. I wonder what Gwyn and Gareth will think of it when they see it? And the ending of the chapter was just priceless! I wish I could draw people better because that scene is just crying out to be illustrated. Great work, mellon nin! Edlyn
Author's reply
Hi Edlyn. Yes, I'm sure Glorfindel's answer would be "Both!" to that question, he and probably all the other Elves, Finrod, especially. I think Legolas will make a great police officer and eventually a detective when he's gone through the procedures to become one, working his way up the ladder. I can even see him eventually becoming the police chief sometime in the future after Michaelson has retired. As for the chase showing up on the internet, we'll have to see how that goes in the next chapter. I'm glad you liked the ending. It is pretty priceless, isn't it? *grin* Thanks for taking the time to review. I appreciate it very much.

Honestly these people should start selling tickets to these confrontations, discussions, counseling sessions,... whatever! I see Glorfi is in Nana mode again, which I understand, but he does have to realize that they are all Adults, even the Three Amigos and Nell, they all have to fall down and scrape their knees and pick themselves up as it were. It might have been better had he mentioned it to either Glorfi or Finrod, but that is beside the point, the Elves are out of the closet and in a big way! Now to figure out how to deal with it. Pulls up a chair and joins Olorin and Fionwe at the table, grabs a handful of pop corn and starts sipping on a tall glass of Angry Orchard cider, waits for show to start! Huggs, Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. Yeah, the could sell tickets and make a killing. LOL! Glorfindel's under lots of pressure and that will have consequences. He's worried about the upcoming elections and what that may portend for the Elves and of course he has Elf Academy to deal with and setting up training programs for the Dagor Dagorath and a host of other concerns and Legolas' little stunt isn't helping matters. And you're right that the Elves with their particular abilities and powers are out of the closet big time. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Oh I just bet the Fionwe and Olorin came prepared...I bet it was their Masters who orchestrated it all - or well, as they keep insisting, they took advantage of the situation for their own purposes. Poor Glorfindel doesn't stand a chance this time. Elladan is right, they have been encouraging the Valinorean Elves to get out there and learn to live with 21st century mortals. It's just that Glorfindel as their original leader feels too protective over them and seems to have a hard time letting go. Not that I can blame him. I can't wait for the interview/chat to start. It should be interesting. Oh, and with all that excitement I forgot to congratulate the newest recruit of WPD. I look forward to reading about the exploits of an Elf - and a prince at that - in the police force (hoping to find a thick book in my Christmas stocking entitled How Prince Legolas Became Chief of Police in Wiseman, Alaska or something like that...or forget about the Christmas stocking, any website will do hahaha) Happy weekend!
Author's reply
Hi Celeth. I wouldn't be surprised if the Valar had a hand in all this either. Glorfindel is probably feeling torn, wanting to control the fallout and wishing he'd been there to help. We'll see how the chat goes in the next chapter. As for your Christmas wish.... hmmm... *grin* Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Oh dear. I had completely forgotten smart phones. They need now to convince everyone that Legolas is just a person who really likes gymnastics and doesn't weight much. And do you know what is funny? Just now the Tolkien quote on the frontpage is Legolas going running on Caradhras! *grin* Poor Legolas though, he will not be able to do anything visible, ever, if the videos show his face. It is not easy to be immortal in the time of Internet.
Author's reply
Hi someone. That is funny about the Tolkien quote. Very apropos. You're right that it's not easy being immortal in the time of cameras and the internet. We'll see how it all works out in the next chapter. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Good thing Legolas is not going to be issued weapons yet. He may be an expert with a bow and arrow, but he's had no experience with firearms.
Author's reply
Hi KathyG. You're right there, but he's a quick learner, our Legolas, so I'm sure he'll be weapons-certified in no time. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.
Dreamflower · 10 October 2014 · Chapter 82: Liam Prince, WPD
Oh, this is delightful! *grin* So, Legolas is now an unofficial-official-sort-of-cop, and the media have the whole thing on video. I am sure YouTube will be next (though perhaps TPTB may be of some use there) and Eldhellond is besieged by reporters and crowds. But Legolas has several things going for him: he did the right thing, because that baby was in danger, and I don't honestly believe any of the other Elves would have done any differently in a similar situation. Elves do not like children to be endangered. Also, clearly Vorondur has an angle on things--and then there are the Maiar. One of whom was a close personal friend of Legolas at a crucial time in his life. I'm quite sure that the persona of Gandalf is never far from Olorin, and Legolas is the last of the Fellowship left. At any rate, I am very happy I had a few minutes before heading off to work to see this. I will be grinning over it all day long!
Author's reply
Hi Dreamflower. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Legolas does indeed have several things going for him, especially the support of the Maiar and Valar. Also Vorondur is on top of things here and will set everyone straight about certain things, as we'll see in the next chapter. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.
FV_Whisper · 8 October 2014 · Chapter 81: Job Interview
Okay, now here we have the Legolas as the world knows him in this chapter. And the people of Wiseman will know him too. The second part of this chapter was action packed and a rush to read. It was funny seeing Legolas getting dressed up all formal (even more when you consider he'll be racing through the streets go Wiseman still mostly formal dressed in the later part of the story) and I like to see how here again we see he's still in good books with one of the Twins. The interview was not really what Legolas hoped for, but there's still an opening for him. He has to do quite some catching up on modern mortal live in the upcoming months, but he has the drive to manage that. It will be a good thing to have him at the police station. Dave Michaelson is in good books with the Elves in general, but he can really use someone who explains to him how they think. And it's always good to have a cop on hand when you need them. There is something weird about the car just being stolen in front of a police station, with Legolas just being around there to come and safe the day and impressing and endearing himself to the whole police station. I wonder which Maiar has been naughty today? “Aw, Chief, can we keep him?” Well, I think Leggy made quite an impression there... - And now I really want a cop show, with an elven prince trying to pass for mortal and resolving situations in his own unique way every week... With Orlando Bloom in the starring role, no doubt! =) - Count me in for that one, please!
Author's reply
I wouldn't mind watching that particular cop show either. And definitely it would star Orlando Bloom. The interview was pretty awkward all around and it must've been very hard for Legolas to even go there practically begging to be let on the police force. But he certainly made a great impression with his rescue run. And yeah, there is something weird about the car being stolen where it was, but stranger things have happened and the Maiar or even the Valar might not have been involved at all. Humans, after all, prove themselves fatally stupid at times. *grin* Anyway, we'll see what Dave decides now about one Liam Prince aka Prince Legolas in the next chapter. Thanks for reviewing, FV_Whisper. It's greatly appreciated.
FV_Whisper · 8 October 2014 · Chapter 80: Prince Legolas Decides
As expected, the change of plans gave some problems in the first part. It has been moved slightly to the background during the Alex and Gareth parts of the story, but we see here how all problems between both groups have not been sorted out yet, and that might take a longer time. “I said, ‘end of discussion’. What part of that did any of you fail to understand?” Finrod knows how to keep his people in charge here. It's good to see how the joined rule between him and Glorfindel is working out. Ah, Legolas, it's good to see more of him here, so far, he's been pretty much in the background unless someone who was good in the woods was needed. Legolas is really in a position here to make a bridge between the two groups of Elves, but the character study here shows very well how this is hard thing to do for him. And I like it how he still holds Glorfindel and the Twins in high esteem. I loved seeing Thranduil being mentioned here, even in cameo, he's one of my favorite Elves and you gave him just the streak of Elven arrogance I like about him. The aurora description was lovely and sure a sight to behold. Under the right conditions, the aurora can been seen where I live, but living in a town makes it o lot harder to catch than. About Legolas' part in the Hobbit's movies, I've always been hoping/saying he should be in there as well. The fact he wasn't mentioned and the character was a matter of fact not even created doesn't stop the fact that he should canonically be around there. So I guess, yeah for that! I'm not quite sure if his part is really overused or if other parts in the movies aren't really overused too, but I take it just as fun watching.
Author's reply
I'd been wanting to showcase Legolas for some time but until Dreamflower wrote her character sketch, I didn't know how I wanted to do it. This was the perfect vehicle. I'm glad you enjoyed the glimpse of Thranduil and his particular brand of elven arrogance. I like Thranduil a lot and he always seems to get bad press, but he's just fun to write. Believe it or not, we'll actually see him for real in Elf Academy 4 and not just as a cameo. As for Legolas in the Hobbit movie, I just love him in it and I look forward to seeing more of him in the next movie. I hope when the extended version of the second movie comes out there will be additional Legolas-Thranduil scenes as the two actors really portrayed the father-son dynamics well. Anyway, thanks for reviewing, FV_Whisper. I appreciate it very much.
FV_Whisper · 8 October 2014 · Chapter 79: A Change of Plans
Well, let's try to catch up on some chapters... It;s funny, when Ash Wednesday was mentioned several chapters back, I had the random thought the wedding might be pretty close around Easter. Guess I was right! (Last year's Easter dates are still somewhat in my mind, due to some less fortunate events during that period. It's kinda weird reading about others now going through the period, even though it's fictional characters lol! ) It's a good thing the Elves are taking the Holy days into account, not just for the sake of their mortal friends, but also to show that they feel not above these things. Marrying on a Tuesday was a nice running gag, but let me give you a twist on it! Yes, I actually know someone who must have married on a Tuesday, and have seen quite a few couples getting married on a Tuesday at the city hall. Because Tuesday is the day the city does not charge a fee for getting married! (Hence why my acquaintance must have gotten married on it Tuesday, I know for fact it was a free one). I guess that does say something about Tuesday being a less popular day for such a thing in general. Nimrodel seems to be thriving. Did she have her ultrasound yet? Now for the mystery that Amroth is up too...Amroth can be really closed when he wants too.
Author's reply
Hi FV_Whisper. When I originally had Elrohir announce the date of the wedding, I only knew it was a Friday without realizing at the time that it was Good Friday. Once I learned of it, then I knew this chapter had to be written. That's interesting about Tuesday weddings being free-of-charge at the city hall. You have to wonder why Tuesdays. At any rate, we will have news of the ultrasound soon enough, though we may never know what Amroth is up to. Ellon is cagey about such things, but as long as it keeps him happy and out of Della's hair, no one cares. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Hi, I've been reading this series for quite some time now, but never reviewed as I never had anything meaningful or funny to add as I'm not as well-read in your universe as some of the others, but today I was reading this chapter and had a question... "Perhaps there was some truth to that, but he had a unique perspective on the Valar that Thranduil could never have, never having actually died and spent time in Mandos, however short that time was." Legolas died at some point in your verse? Is that elaborated somewhere in your stories?
Author's reply
Hello CuriousCat. The story of Legolas ending up in Mandos, however briefly, can be found in "Playing Chess with Lord Námo" and its sequel "Ab 'Urth". You can also read about Thranduil's reaction to what happened in "QUARREL: Confronting Námo", which can be found in my "Fiondil's Tapestry" collection (chapter 23). Enjoy.
rikki · 7 October 2014 · Chapter 81: Job Interview
"Aw Chief, can we keep him!" Keep him indeed! I have to add a ditto with the other readers that you have done a great job writing an exciting action sequence with Liam. It had a lot of heart stopping moments for me as I am imagining all sorts of dire things happening when Liam jumps on moving cars to follow the carjackers. I also felt that you nailed Liam's lack of mortalness. His speech patterns and actions when he bowed to Dave were like when you meet someone who is from a different country with different customs that are just strange enough to throw you off. If he has six months to learn to act like a mortal, Liam will be busy. But not only Dan and Roy can help, I would think the younger elves like Finda, Nell, Gareth and Gwyn could provide a lot of input. BTW, I only noticed it when I was rereading the chapter, but at the beginning when Dan and Liam are talking about borrowing a suit, you have Liam answering Elrohir's question, not Elladan. And yes, becoming mortal will require a suit. No matter how casual the life style one leads, a good suit is necessary for weddings and funerals. Super chapter. Have a great week, can't wait to hear what Dave will say about the rescue and possibly what Glorfindel will think about Liam's choice of career.
Author's reply
Hi rikki. I'm glad you found the action sequence exciting and that you thought I did a great job writing it. It wasn't easy and you never know how others will read it because you can see it so clearly in your own mind and trying to describe it on paper isn't always easy. And thanks for pointing out Liam's lack of mortalness. I felt it was important to stress that with the way he spoke and addressed others. He has much to learn about passing himself off as a mortal. We'll see in the next chapter what Dave's reaction is to all of this as well as what Glorfindel's reaction is. Thanks for pointing out the error. I can't believe I missed it when I re-read the chapter before posting it. It's been corrected. Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it.
Larner · 7 October 2014 · Chapter 81: Job Interview
Legolas as a stray animal--I love it! Having someone with an Elf's physical skills on the force will certainly increase the force's abilities, of course. And he still finds children delightful. Perhaps he's remembering Eldarion and his sisters, and Faramir and Eowyn's children, and perhaps Eomer's as well. A good beginning.
Author's reply
The police force and the town can only benefit from having Legolas on board, that's for sure. And Elves generally find children delightful even when they don't have any of their own. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. It's appreciated.
Rhyselle · 6 October 2014 · Chapter 81: Job Interview
Holy Moley! That was just AWESOME! I could picture everything in my head including Legolas'--er, Liam's--conversation with Dan about the appropriate attire for the job interview. :-) I really enjoyed all of the different levels of tension in this chapter. The personal discomfort of having to ask someone else for help, the "what am I doing?" feeling at the police station, the let down combined with hope when Dave Michaelson made his suggestion of Legolas using the next six months to really become Liam and then attend the police academy... and then the elf/car chase, and the rescue of the baby. Phew! That was just... WOW! Very movie-like, and way better than the last car chase I saw on a TV crime show. :-) And I couldn't help but just melt at the mental image of Legolas cuddling the baby, and the expression that must have been on his face as he handed the infant back to its mum, telling her a nappy change was needed. And Conrad's question was the perfect ending! I frequently re-read various chapters when I get the chance, but this one is going to be one I re-read a LOT... especially on days when I desperately need to be uplifted from a downer day. Thanks so very, very much, dear Fiondil, for sharing this tale (and all of your others) with us. It's most definitely a light in the darkness--at least as far as I'm concerned.
Author's reply
Hi Rhyselle. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this chapter. I'm sure you can tell I had loads of fun writing it, and it pretty much played like it was on the big screen as I wrote it, which made it easy to describe the action. I'm glad you were able to "see" all of that. And you're not the only person who apparently will re-read or has already re-read this chapter for the pure enjoyment of it and I am very pleased to know this as it tells me that I'm doing something right. Thanks for your support and for leaving a comment. I appreciate both very much.
Sunny · 6 October 2014 · Chapter 81: Job Interview
You know, Fiondil, this chapter is rapidly becoming one of my favorites in this particular story - I've read it several times this afternoon, and I loved it as much the last time as the first. It's right up there along with the "Vorondur Emulates Mount St Helens" and "The Lightning of Love Strikes Gareth and Nielluin" chapters. Like several of the others I loved Conrad's little comment - like an 8-year old coming home with some muddy creature in tow, one with deeply questionable antecedents. And given Legolas' demonstration here - no thinking, just springing into very effective action - I'm sure David Michaelson not going to let him get away if he can help it. ;-)
Author's reply
I'm glad you really enjoyed this chapter, Sunny. The comparison of Conrad to an 8-year-old is very apt and we'll see how Michaelson responds to his comment in the next chapter as well as what decisions he makes concerning one Prince Legolas, aka Liam Prince. And the "Vorondur Emulates Mount St. Helens" chapter is one of my personal favs too. *grin*

Someone get him some theme music (though I sincerely hope that nobody decides to seek compensation for all the free-running dents in their cars)! I hope everything works out Liam :-) However, I do have to say that the car-jacking was awfully...convenient time-wise, but maybe that's just a consequence of my recent re-read of the Silmarillion (wherein the Powers seem to swing between being meddling if well-meaning mother hens ["come stay with us please because we are lon....I MEAN BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN IF YOU STAY WHERE ERU PUT YOU"] to hands-off ["oh one of Morgoth's best baddies is causing some trouble because we couldnt be bothered to hunt him down properly? SORRY NOT OUR DIVISION WE JUST DESTROYED THE CRAP OUT OF THE WORLD AS YOU KNOW IT"] But hey, I guess not even angels are perfect :D)
Author's reply
Hi Sarah. Yes, well, as Glorfindel is always at pains to point out, there's no such thing as coincidence, but whether the Valar had anything to do with this or an even higher power intervened or it just happened because humans can be very stupid about things sometimes, we'll probably never know. And you're right, not even angels are perfect. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Whew, glad that they got that straightened out without any kind of blood shed. I wondered about the good prince. He spent a lot of time with mortal beings it had to be heart breaking to see them go from babe to death in some instances. But as a cop, he would do good at that. No spiders to have to rid, just dweebs. :)
Author's reply
Hi Laer. Well, I think it was a near thing with the bloodshed but Finrod and Glorfindel managed to keep everyone calm. Legolas did spend a lot of time with mortals and it must've been heart-breaking when they died, but, as he says, he was the better for having known them. I think he'll make a great cop. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Well, it's too bad they don't know anyone in Fairbanks that Liam could stay with while he works up to attending the Academy... someone who needs to learn more about being an Elf while Liam learns about being a Mortal... Interested to see how he reacts to the firearm training, bulletproof vests, and how he might interact with police K9's - given the Elven rapport with animals. Does Wiseman have a mounted unit? Looking forward to reading time during Friday's lunch break. '^_^'
Author's reply
Hi Angwen. That would be one viable solution, sending Legolas to Gwyn and Gareth. We'll see what Dave decides in the next chapter. I don't think the Wiseman police have a mounted unit. Given where they're located, I don't think it would be feasible as only one species of horse is capable of surviving above the Arctic Circle. Anyway, I'm glad you're looking forward to Friday.
