obsidianj · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

I loved this chapter. It was hilarious. I still have some trouble seeing the almost invincible (by human standards) Maia being defeated by Alex. But on the other hand, if they don't know anything about unarmed combat, it can be very effective. Good for Alex to tell the elves straight what he thinks of them and their attitude. Poor elves, so many news in such a short time. Nothing happens for millennia and then, suddenly, the kings go to Wiseman, Helyanya comes back with her experience, triplets, Nell and Gareth and now a mortal in their midst that is not in awe of them. That is probably more to digest than they had in ages. Can't wait how this plays out.

Ah the only tittle that would be fitting for this chapter. Seriously, after a most promising cliffie last week, this has been one of Fiondil's best chapters ever. Well, the Council sure has something to talk about. Alex knows his ways to put some Elves in their place for sure. I am a little worried about what this will do with Alex when he finds out is wasn't just a dream. For some question asked on Fiondill lore, please correct me if I'm wrong: Soledad - if I recall correctly, it's mentioned in The Journey home, Maglor's return story, that Meadhros has been reborn and was utterly excited about having his hand back, reborn way *snorts* Denethor is one of the characters from The Journey home too. I'm personally pleased to see he and Maglor are still together. Vanime - None, as far as I know. Aicatirno's name means Fell Watcher and appears in the Wars of the Valar Juging by his name and the lack of Eru in it, I would say he was not based on any of the archangels directly. As for the other archangels, Rafael is Olórin, Gabriel is Melian. I'll see you all in the Cliff house garden. Corine

Vanime · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

Also, if Manveru is Michael, and Eruanu is Uriel, who would Aicatirno be as an archangel?

Vanime · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

I haven't been leaving reviews of late, and for that I apologize. That having been said, I am thrilled to bits with the new chapter! I absolutely loved that Maedhros wanted to go to Wiseman right away, to join Alex, his "Sword-brother", I wonder if Maglor would go with him too? That would be most awesome, imho. I did have a question though, is the Denethor at the end of the story an elf or is he somehow in Aman as formerly one of the Stewards of Gondor? Many thanks dear ones for continuing Fiondil's work. It's such a deep joy and pleasure to read during a hectic day at work...shhh.. don't tell management! ;) Hugs and Love, Vanime

Playing catch up here - real life is .... well, more real than anyone truly wants, yeah? Enjoyed each chapter since last remarking, but this one had me in stitches from the title on downward! I do truly LOVE Alex Grant. He is so much fun even when he doesn't want to be. And I dearly enjoyed his reaming out Namo. Good on, Alex! The plot continues to thicken and perhaps now, after all the shouting is finished, these lazy bum elves will get their heads together! All these millennia and they STILL haven't colonized the rest of their world? Talk about LAZY! !! LOL So glad to see you've been working hard to continue this series, Beta Tomodachi and I thank you all for your hard work, perseverance and love for not only Fiondil and his work but his fandom. Domo Arigatou!

sharonb · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

Ha, I was a chapter early for the chapter title. ;-) You tell 'em Alex. And Alex has a new best friend, LOL. You think Maedhros would want to room with Alex and Derek?

Dreamflower · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

LOLOL! Talk about draconian measures! And yet I can see how this would easily apply in a society of immortals who had lost hope for the future and were living in boredom to fail to multiply--well, if they wouldn't do it voluntarily, I suppose it would have to be mandated. Hopefully once the children began to make an appearance the attitudes would change. And then Alex shows up--careful what you wish for, Olwe! *grin*

elrondian · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

all i can say is 'bravo!'

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

Alex in Vala-la-land! *giggles at the fact that sharonb almost exactly anticipated the title, though she suggested it for the previous chapter* (Also, kind of wondering why this particular chapter is UTfrog's 'Second Best Fiondil Chapter' - wondering what the first is :D ) So I'm sitting here in the Cliff House garden (by Atto Fiondil's eternal flame), reading from my new iPad Mini and very amused at the Elves' reactions to Alex, not to mention HIS reaction to THEM. Yahoos, indeed...*snicker* Atya, wouldn't I love to know if Alex ever read Gulliver's Travels...I wonder if he ever told you that, Beta Amiga nettenyar? Or is he just using 'yahoos' in a slang ish way? And oh lord, what a way for the Elves to find out about Nell and Gareth... The fight with the Maiar went about as well as I've come to expect. They don't call him "sword-brother" lightly. He's as good as Glorfi :) I miss Glorfi *pets* I hope his fading will be healed somehow. I would suggest an Amanian healer somehow look at it...But it seems like all of Aman seems to be slowly fading, without estel. What have the Feanturinildi been doing all this time? Maedhros cracks me up. I'm assuming, taking "FAULT: The Doctor Is In" into account, that the reborn Maedhros has "remembered" his missing hand. "Alexgrant" indeed! Heh :) But of course he wouldn't get the comparatively recent way of forming surnames in Western Mortal cultures. (And to be fair, some Mortal cultures still do patronymics, though I couldn't say how many.) I think Alex needs a stiff drink, after all this. :P Waiting eagerly for the next installment, whenever RL permits. With love to you all, Beta Amigas, fellow Fiondilie, as I sit by Atto Fiondil's eternal flame burning in the Cliff House garden, Kaylee

Sunny · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

Wow! If Alex is able to wipe the floor with a Maia when he is surprised by one, having only his bare hands for defense, I really wonder how he would fare if he had a salt shaker to hand... And Maedhros in Wiseman?? That will be ...interesting! And given the way Maedhros reacted, he WILL go there, no doubt about that!

Jenniem · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

Wow! What a chapter, what an imagination! I really miss Fiondil, his stories helped me through a very dark time in my life, so all I can do is offer my deepest and most heartfelt thanks to the three board members who have worked so hard to bring us this. It must be a very dull, self-satisfied elf who was not impressed by Alex's speeches and actions in that Council chamber.I'm glad that Alex told them what's what, and showed them just what he can do. Perhaps that might galvanise some of them to get off their backsides and start living again. If they all wanted Nielluin in their families so much, why didn't they get on with courting her and arranging a marriage. Talk about having eons of time to arrange everything. Nielluin is definitely better off with Gareth than with any of these sorry ellons. I really can't blame her for not wanting to stay in Aman, but wanting a real life in Middle Earth, where she can have some fun. Perhaps Celeborn will be more accepting of Gareth now. He might realise that though Gareth has very little in the worldly sense, he has experience and a fighting spirit. I really can't see him wanting to pay tax either. I do approve of the three kings telling their peoples that it's reproduce or pay tax. What's the point of having a long life if you don't have children and grandchildren to make it a happy one? Now perhaps Valinor will wake up and start to live again.

Soledad · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

Oh, this was hilarious! So Alex finally met Manveru and Erunáro - good! But the best part was Maedhros taking to him at once and wanting to go to ME to learn unarmed combat from him. Speaking of which... does Maedhros has both hands again in this 'verse? Cause otherwise it would be a bit hard to achieve.

UTfrog · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

That is the second best chapter of all of Fiondil's stories! Wow oh wow!!! Loved every bit of it.

harrowcat · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

Wow!!! Sounds like a few Maia may have to set up sparring classes like they did with Glorfindel.

Sarah · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

Go Alex, dropping the Truth bombshells left and right, and it looks like he may have found himself a friend (or at least an admirer). This could prove to be very amusing :)

CRS · 8 August 2016 · Chapter 28: Alex in Vala-la-land

AARGH! I've been waiting for this all week - it was worth it! Wait until Alex finds out (at some point) that it wasn't a dream. It will be interesting to find out how they deal with Maedhros' raging desire to learn unarmed combat (maybe Maglor can straighten him out!).

obsidianj · 7 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

Wow! That was a surprise. Alex in Valinor. Let the fun begin. The delegates at the council are less than enthusiastic for Ingwe's plans. Although, taxing people for getting children seems a bit harsh. Can't wait to see how Alex will shock the elves of Valinor.

Soledad · 7 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

I've tried to review via my iPad (I was out of country for a while), but the moody little thing ate my review. Amaneldi, learn from my fate and think twice before get involved with computers! Ahem... yes. When Olwë first came up with the idea of bringing Alex to Aman, I began to cringe in the inside and flailed at him to shut up. He shouldn't give the Valar any ideas! And then, at the end of the chapter, it turned out that I was right... *g* Now I can't wait to see what Alex will do at the Council. Fionwë's Bane, and all that, hehehe... Aside from this, with all due respect, I found the idea of forcing the Amaneldi to have children a really bad idea. The government in my country did it a few years before my own birth, and now, 60 years later, we have to bear the consequences. But again, Elves would hardly have the problem of a society where the elderly outnumber the young by magnitudes... or rather they've already had it for Ages. Literally. Still, it is a dangerous practice. We'll see how the High Kings deal with it. Until then, I'll have to get some beer and popcorn for the "Alex in Aman" performance.

FV_Whisper · 7 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

Hi fellow Fiondilie (love that term, Kaylee!), it's bene a long while since I replied, but I'm still here, hidden in a quiet corner of the cliff house garden. First off all, I want to say that there is nothing more annoying then to have the work you do voluntarily been criticized in such a way. It's not a paid job (in such case, let's say an editorial for a newssite, I would be expecting scheduled updates as well), it's something people will have do between their lives, jobs and family. Timmy updates are appreciated , (especially after being left with such an ending!), but should never be forced. However, dear beta Amiga's, keep in mind we care about you (at least I do, but I am sure so do the others.) I know you'll do your best to update as regularly as possible, and if not, something is going on. This could be something nice as going on holiday or spending some time with loves ones, it could mean you're without internet for some time, to something more serious could be going on. Please allow us the freedom to inquire about you if it takes you too long to update. Okay, off my soap box here. Now, as for something actually about the story. I really loved to see my dear Maglor showing up here and am pleased to see he at least has't grown such an attitude as some as the others. And here we have the cameo of Thranduil Fiondil promised us such a long, long time ago. And o my, Alex appearing in the end. Be carefull what you wish for indeed. I think not only some Elves have just been Namo'd, some are about to be getting Alexed indeed too! My best wishes to everyone here. Corine

Sunny · 4 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

Woooow! Namo pops up in the middle of the All-Aman Council session - with Alex! I'm certain that right now, all the Valar and all the Maiar that are able to are right now swanning around on the Astral around the Council Hall woth the Ainurin version of popcorn close at hand. Except for Námo, who is there in the flesh, so to speak. Fiondil was a true Master of surprises, as well as the King of Cliffies, so now we know there are some real fun surprises coming up. Alex is sure to shake things up, both by his mere presence, as well as a result of whatever shenanigans he gets up to. I'm sure that Ingwe is feeling as if he is standing in the middle of a minefield - or would, if he had known what mines are in the first place. And what is Námo thinking, anyway, dropping someone as, um, volatile probably describes it - for some reason he reminds me of some of the chemicals Derek Lowe talks about in his "Things I won't work with" article series - stuff that goes boom if you give them a hard look. (http://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/category/things-i-wont-work-with) ::drops of a few jars of homemade spiced jams on the table in the Cliff House, and settles in to watch the fun unfolding::

Lindelea · 2 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

My word. Just read Aranadhel's terse and to-the-point review. To what point? I'm not sure of anything except it is to the wrong point. If I were the vengeful type, I'd ask the webmaster to try to block Aranadhel from leaving reviews at all. If I were diabolical, I'd ask the webmaster to block the user from reading at all (I'd have to be diabolical, have some sort of evil power to achieve that, I'm sure. I only know you can block users on sites like Facebook, I don't really know how it works). Aranadhel, please stop acting like a bounder and a cad. Sorry for losing my temper. You all are wonderful, meaning Fiondil's faithful betas and the readers who show their appreciation and support. Certain reader(s) excepted. Now I'll leave you all in peace and go back to RL, which has been keeping me from updating my own stories, frustrating, but such is life.

Lindelea · 2 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

“Bring Alex Grant here, lock the chamber and let him loose. These poor bastards wouldn’t know what hit them.” Hahahahahahahahahaha! What's the old saying? "From your lips to God's ears..."?

golden_red · 2 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

Delurking just to say thank you to Ellie, Shemyaza and Mari for taking the time to post Fiondils work, regardless of when it appears, I really appreciate that I get to keep reading this verse. About the chapter: I love that we get see both what's going on in Valinor and middle earth, and also yet another cliffhanger :)

Jenniem · 2 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

Well, the average Elven delegate to this council is in for a very great shock. 'I don't want to have to kill you, but I have a saltshaker.' Alex may just be what the majority of the Elves need to shake them out of their complacency and sense of superiority. I honestly feel that most of the delegates at the council did not really believe that the Mortals of Endore would not roll over and let them give orders. They need Alex to teach them that Mortals are not just there to die at their command, but have made major advancements in warfare technology and in fighting techniques. They won't like what Alex tells them, and even more they will hate the way he tells them, but it's a lesson that needs to be learned. By the way, did the kings really think that the Valar don't know that Arafinwe has brought schematics back for computers and various communication technologies? Olwe wasn't just blindly watching TV, especially National Geographic, he was also learning that people can always find out more about their own world, and what is in it.

Celeth · 1 August 2016 · Chapter 27: The Council Continues

I did think the Lindaran's idea was brilliant, and apparently, so did Lord Namo! Now talk about show and tell...I just hope Elves are not prone to heart attacks or Mandos might be filled to the rafters, not to mention those that might actually be victims when Alex loses his cool. But then I know that he's better than that. Go on, Alex, show them what mortals are like and what they can do! I can't wait to read about the reaction of the other delegates!!! And how Alex in turn will react to them, and to Valinor as a whole.
