katharein · 26 April 2016 · Chapter 13: Counseling Session with Alex

Alex, Felicity, and Derek died in Glorfindel's dream/nightmare, which takes up the first few chapters of the story.

Tari · 26 April 2016 · Chapter 13: Counseling Session with Alex

I'm confused. I thought Alex, Derek, Felicity and some of the elves were killed in an accident. I'm glad to see them back, but would still like to know what happened.

...so, are y'all just skipping to posting on Wednesdays, then? We only ask because though WE DO REALLY APPRECIATE you guys bringing the story to us, it does really drive home that Fiondil is gone when we check and there's still no update. With the sort of history we've all been through here, it makes for worries and sadness. No idea how he got his updated on time over and over and over again - it was like magic! We'd just like to know when to look for updates. Mondays? Wednesdays? Some other day that ends in Y? ^_^ THANKS!!!

As I explained to another reader,I am generally the one who posts the chapters, but there were family issues which came first and I didn't manage to post until later. Sadly we do have to concentrate on real life stuff sometimes, but will always endeavour to make sure we don't miss a week. The story I posted that fell on a Wednesday was actually posted in the haemato oncology clinic while I was waiting to see my oncologist. I was just lucky I had my tablet with me. We are very grateful for your patience!

Aranadhel · 24 April 2016 · Chapter 12: Consultations

Dear moderators, Please post new chapter every Monday on schedule. Hate it when tis delayed without any explanation.

Author's reply

My apologies, but I had family issues and wasning in a position to post at the time. The other two ladies and I do have families and sometimes things crops up. Unfortunately none of us are Arthur (we wish he was still here to post them himself)and we do sometimes have busy schedules. Please be patient with us, we would greatly appreciate it. Author Reply: I also should have said that Ellie, Mari and I are not moderators of the SoA site. We are all close friends of Fiondil's. We have no official position on this story site at all!

Ron's personality profiles are hilarious. "Intelligence: Wise, but crazy" LOL. I can see how that assessment comes about from an elven point of view. Vanime, in her review, I think hit the nail on the head about the reason for Glorfindel's fading. He has nothing worth living for. He has a lot worth dying for, but nothing that makes him really wanting to stay alive. All his charges have grown out of his tutelage, Elrond's sons, even the mortals. His friends can carry on without him (in his mind). Just living to see another battle even for the fate of the world is not really an incentive to live. You might die anyway. Helyanwe leaving was probably the final blow to his estel. What is left for him? Pretty much anything he has already done and for the most part, he doesn't need a repeat. The Valar make him feel out of control. They pop in or out as they wish and are not always helpful. I think Glorfindel is simply tired of it all. They have to come up with a reason to live for Glorfindel.

I so love the descriptions Vorondur makes of Legolas. I do hope that things don't get too far out of hand, and hope they do catch the ones working out the plans to cause more problems.

6336 · 20 April 2016 · Chapter 12: Consultations

Oh, Ron, from your lips to the Valar's ears. May it be so. Or famous last words, which knowing Glorfi, is probably so. Lynda

Sunny · 20 April 2016 · Chapter 12: Consultations

oh my, I absolutely adore Ron's personality profiles! First we saw the one he had on Glorfindel, now we have seen the one he has on Legolas as well. I giggled my way through it!

Vanime · 20 April 2016 · Chapter 12: Consultations

I haven't reviewed since Chapter 4, but continue to be drawn into the story and going on this wild ride that is Elf Academy. :) I absolutely have to say that I am relieved to find that it was all a bad dream for Glorfindel in the beginning chapters there. I do wonder if the dream is a portent of what might happen, with some aspects of truth to it, like the talisman that the twins have to get to. So glad that Elrond is able to keep Glorfindel in check, and love the fact that he is still "Lording" over Glorfindel to do this. It's a nice aspect of him to see, as we often have wondered at the strength of Elrond, esp. when it is so rarely displayed as it was in the last chapter. So sorry that Glorfindel is fading... :( I wonder if the way to tether him, would be to give him something tangible to live for. I was thinking on his and Legolas' relationship. As Elrond mentioned, Glor loves Legolas... and as Legolas' real ada is not there, nor is he likely to be, perhaps Glor could be Legolas' adopted Ada? I think that they could balance each other out, and give each other a grounding to be less "wild". (As Per Dr. Brightman's analysis of Legolas running off and getting himself in a situation that may/might have been better avoided.) I sincerely hope that the fading stops and Glor gets back to normal soon! Looking forward to the next chappie! Vanime

So, Dar and Cani stole what sounds like it must have been most of the nursery. They'll be working off their debt for three-quarters of the year for the next five years? How much do plants COST? What did they TAKE? O_O *wonders* The poor plants must have been so scared :( I'm glad they were reassured! And Glorfindel is fading. Well. What are they going to DO about it?? I imagine Atya's having a good laugh at all our expense because he knows the answer. The question is, do you?? *looks at beta amigas* O_o I hope they figure out what to do about it soon! Tye-melin, Kaylee

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 20 April 2016 · Chapter 10: Retreat into the Woods

Atya, Beta Amiga nettenyar, Sorry for the lack of reviews. I have read and re-read these chapters since they were posted, and now's my time to play catch-up. Real life came down on me like a ton of bricks, as they say, and I'm finally in a peaceful enough place to settle my mind for proper reviews. I love how this is neatly slotted into real life by use of the Young and the Restless timeline. Nettenyar, do you know if Atto actually watched soaps or did he just look this information up for research purposes? In either case, the idea of Atto OR the Elves watching soaps just makes me giggle. The Young and the Restless was the soap that Shemar Moore was on before he became famous for Criminal Minds as Agent Derek Morgan. I know him as Morgan, but I'm wondering if his Y&TR character was one of those referenced. I can't remember what his character's name was on there. :D All right, now that I've got mention of Morgan out of the way... So Doctor Oliver Grey says the Mortal tests won't give the Elves what they're looking for, hm? But they could be useful for an Elven baseline. And the results of the Elven tests don't sound good at all... What on Arda HAVE Dar and Cani been up to? (no, of course I know, but that's for next chapter) Tye-melin, Kaylee

Finally, they all know what is happening to Glorfindel. Even if they don't know what to do at the moment it helps if can tackle a problem as a group. Glorfindel mood swings are frightening. He behaves like a spoiled brat. I love it that Elrond steps up to the task and is able to deal with Glorfindel. Elrond can show here why he was the master of Imladris.

someone · 15 April 2016 · Chapter 11: Diagnosis

I'm glad that Glorfindel and the others now know what is wrong, and hopefully will find a way to help him. It was quite amusing to see Glorfindel actually wilt! I'm not sure if I've ever seen that happen in this series before. Either it is because he is not himself, or he still treats Elrond as Turgon's heir, or Elrond was just intimidating. Perhaps it was a mixture of those. Hopefully Finrod will not be too annoyed at being told to remain downstairs. It was nice to see how the scene in the dining room didn't really affect Finrod and Glorfindel's relationship; they are still as brothers and Glorfindel didn't even need to apologize. And... those children! What plants did they steal that they will have to pay for the next five years!

Jenniem · 14 April 2016 · Chapter 11: Diagnosis

Nooo! Glorfindel must not die. I'm willing to lead a protest march to save him. Namo is not having Glorfi again, not now, not never!

harrowcat · 14 April 2016 · Chapter 11: Diagnosis

Way to go Elrond! What a chapter of highs and lows. Many many thanks to those working to bring us this part of the Tales.

Soledad · 13 April 2016 · Chapter 11: Diagnosis

Wow, Elrond! Rarely do we get to see him displaying his true power! Of course, it helps to be Turgon's heir... sort of.

obsidianj · 8 April 2016 · Chapter 10: Retreat into the Woods

Hmm, the result of the scanning sounds ominous. It was probably for the best that Glorfindel was asleep. He is not a willing participant in these examinations. I'm not quite sure why, unless he suspects something and is just not willing to accept the possibility that he is not at his best. What are the Valar expecting that they sent an army of Maia to guard Glorfindel when he had to take off his ring? Something is cooking that's for sure.

Larner · 6 April 2016 · Chapter 10: Retreat into the Woods

Hmm. The results sound to be rather dire. But best to be honest from the get-go, I'd think also. Glorfindel ought to be able to deal with it better if he knows from this point on what it is he's facing.

elrondion · 5 April 2016 · Chapter 10: Retreat into the Woods

I am truly thankful for all the hard work involved in bringing the Elf Academy 4 papers and notes to the fans. It is a lot of hard work and obviously a labor of love. Going into heart surgery next Monday and look forward to the next post as soon as I can get to a computer to read it. Atto’s work has kept me going as I have journeyed over the last year to get to this point. It has kept me positive against the doom-sayers. Fading is discussed in book one if Elf Interrupted in the context of Lirulin’s fading after Intarion’s death in the War of Wrath. Finrod basically gives her a reason to live for both Alassiel’s sake as well as Intarion’s eventual return. Not sure if such would help Loren as his issues are much more complex. Perhaps the coming triplets and the children he might meet through Elf Camp would be of help. Brought enough tea and scones for everyone!

Lyana · 4 April 2016 · Chapter 10: Retreat into the Woods

Thank you so much to all those who are contributing to this labor of love to get these final chapters posted. I find myself savoring each chapter, wanting to prolong the enjoyment as much as possible. Poor Glorfindel. I am glad he has so many around him who love him so much, and have so much skill and expertise! Something tells me they will need it all to figure out how to untangle the mystery of how to treat a person who is fading.

Eruherdiriel · 4 April 2016 · Chapter 10: Retreat into the Woods

So Reborn either sit in the trees or watch soaps, huh? That's funny! :)

Lindelea · 4 April 2016 · Chapter 10: Retreat into the Woods

So much to love in this chapter! '...even for you, Ron.' I honestly snorked at this. And Finrod's supposed exemption... (And Glorfindel's "whatever") Gandalf and fireworks! Just like old times. How many Maiar can dance on the head of a pin, anyhow? (But really, 6,000? Just what were they expecting Glorfindel to do, anyhow?) "What is to come" sounds ominous to me, as well. Was that perhaps some gentle misdirection for Ron's benefit? Somehow I think it would be difficult to misdirect Ron, and get away with it. The running soap opera theme. “Come, it is almost time for The Young and the Restless.” Finrod's gentle handling of his gwador. And the healers seem to have picked something up, so now just to see what they do with the information. I have started re-reading the EA series, just to refresh myself on events.

Lindelea · 3 April 2016 · Chapter 9: A Day at the Hospital

I am sorry you've been poorly. Thank you for keeping up the postings! I really look forward to them. Somehow it's comforting to think they're there, waiting, even if I don't have time to read them right when they are posted. I love the Elves surrounding Loren, and the quip about the teddy bear and the hand-holding! Very hard! If a "cure" for fading is to surround oneself with Mortals, then I can see Loren's problem in the way the Elves keep him walled off, even if it is at his request. I wonder if one of Ron's therapies will be to have Loren adopt a family (sort of like the Big Brother/Big Sister program) and immerse himself in their lives... Probably not, but the picture of him sitting down on a picnic blanket being swarmed by delighted little kids -- even if it's uncomfortable and unfamiliar at first because he's so long out of practice -- tickles my fancy.

obsidianj · 2 April 2016 · Chapter 9: A Day at the Hospital

Poor Glorfindel. It can be so tiresome to go through all those tests. Although, I was always fascinated by the technology and pestered the technicians with questions that took my mind off the procedures. Had to laugh at the nurse asking for the date of birth. I hope they will find out soon that Glorfindel is actually fading and that they can do something about that. I get the feeling that the moment Glorfindel admits to himself that this is what is going on, he will come around.

Larner · 30 March 2016 · Chapter 9: A Day at the Hospital

It would be tiresome going through all of that--hell, it IS tiresome going through it all! Poor Glorfindel!
