Awww, Shrewsbury Abbey! Even without Brother Cadfael present, the mere mentioning it gives me warm, fuzzy feelings! Abbot William seems to have been a wise man indeed, although I don't trust his prior a bit.
UTfrog · 9 January 2017 · Chapter 48: Shrewsbury Abbey
Those boys led most interesting lives. Historians would love them. Thanks again for all your hard work.
Sarah · 9 January 2017 · Chapter 48: Shrewsbury Abbey
Well, that went far better than I expected, though I'm rather shocked they let the cat out of the bag. Desperate times, desperate measures I suppose. Let's hope it doesn't come back to bite them. Re: the baptism they so wish to avoid, at least they're old enough not to scream their heads off at a bit of a dunking (or in my case, toddler water sprinkling because I was a naughty child). Hoping all is well with you!

Well I can't say I blame them for not wanting to be baptized again but it would solve a couple of problems: A they are baptized Christians and B Holy Water does not bother them! So out of the frying pan and into the warming oven? Lynda
Larner · 7 January 2017 · Chapter 47: Seeking Sanctuary
Having followed the adventures of Brother Cadfael, I of course feel most familiar with the environs of the monastery at the Foregate. I wonder who it is that is herding the brothers here!
Arasinda · 2 January 2017 · Chapter 47: Seeking Sanctuary
Dear Friends of Fiondil, Thank you for this lovely New Year Gift. Fiondil's sense of history was very exact. I particularly enjoy how he weaves historical facts, Tolkien's canon, and his perceptions of how the elves coped in Middle Earth. Thank you again for keeping Fiondil's work available to his devoted fans. Sincerely, Arasinda

This is getting mysterious. There are definitely more forces at work than is obvious on the surface. I liked the abbot although he hasn't said much.
UTfrog · 2 January 2017 · Chapter 47: Seeking Sanctuary
The brothers lived such an interesting life. I love the history embedded. Thank you.

Thank you for all the hard work that the three of you have done on this enthralling EA4. I hope that those of you who haven't well are feeling better now. I'm looking forward to the next installment, but now feel that I can wait. Thanks again.
elrondion · 30 December 2016 · Chapter 46: Seeking Employment
this chapter was a lovely view of the realities of the time. anxious to see if the brothers are able to find a suitable replacement when time to move on. suspect gentle behind the scenes assistance will make it happen. holiday times tend to be chaotic especially when illness is involved. hopefully you all were able to focus on the peace and blessings of the season. as usual, awaiting the next installment. thank you for letting us know more is to come and that the two of you are reasonably well. thank you again for all your hard work. be well and be at peace.
Angwen · 29 December 2016 · Chapter 46: Seeking Employment
Yay! That's good news I needed today. The holidays are tough - today's the 27th anniversary of my mom's death, and Monday is my birthday. I'll take more chapters as an unexpected gift. Deep breaths for everyone... ^_^
Leigh · 29 December 2016 · Chapter 46: Seeking Employment
Hope all is well with you three and your loved ones. Thanks for the update and for your dedication to getting the story to us! I hope you all had happy holidays and I hope you have a joyous new year. I remember a time shortly after Fiondil's passing when it was thought there were some completed one shots and short stories that you may come into possession of, did anything come of that or is this truly the last we'll see of his work?
katharein · 28 December 2016 · Chapter 46: Seeking Employment
If this is indeed the end, I can only say thank you all who worked on Fiondil's story. May you go well, be well and have a happy healthy new year. And we should thank Fiondil's family for letting us all see it.

That was beautiful and very moving, demeter d. Thank you for sharing the details behind the story, Shemyaza, and for posting the chapters. And again, thank you and Ellie and Mari for everything you've done and for helping Arthur's last story come to light. Best wishes to your sister, Shemyaza, and wishes for a happy new year to everyone.

My previous post was long enough. But I have one more thing to add. Last year, in a review of Ellie's charmingly bizarre Elf-on-the-Shelf story, the last thing Fiondil beta-ed for her, I issued this invitation. I repeat it now, to all of my fellow Tolkien (and Arthur) fans. Tomorrow night, after your own midnight services, after you set out your cookies for Bishop Nicholas, after all of the stockings are filled and not a creature is stirring, slip away with me. Come to our Cliff House for a virtual Christmas Eve wake. I will bring some of those lovely cinnamon-scented pine comes to fragrance the air. I will bring one of my favorite frankinscence scented candles. I will bring some mulled cider with which to toast the Christmas dawn. We can sing Christmas carols, and remember lost friends and loved ones. At the dawn, we can look to the West where our friend has flown. Then we can turn East, and welcome the coming of the Light of the World. I have invited all of Wiseman, and asked an Eagle to send a message to Valinor. Who knows who might join us! And finally, I wish to all of you, in every land where you are found, a new year of blessings and peace. I pray that all Men of Good Will may be blessed with wisdom to guide our world through the growing dark in which we live. I pray that one day there may indeed be "Peace on Earth". Joyous Holidays to you all! demeter d

This is one of only two reviews I have written this year. I have been involved in some projects which required time, time AWAY from Fan Fiction. But I want to join the line of people thanking you "beta amigas" as Kaylee put it, for all of the work you have done this year. I would like to add a voice to your taking the story as far as our friend had it... then saying "this is as far as it goes". After that, well --- Dreamflower has already given us a "fan-fiction upon a fan-fiction" as it were. Check out her collection of short pieces, "Dreamflower's Mathoms", I think. Look at "Gabriella's Story." It is a further, future adventure of the baby Legolas rescued from the car-jacker. I am sure that all of us have our own thoughts about things which could happen next to our favorite canon and original characters. Arthur's stories have captured our imaginations in almost the same ways as those of Our Good Professor. Except for those here who are established authors, who can include such tales in their own short chapter collections, perhaps this site is not quite set up for such second-level tale telling. But I am sure that many of you have ideas about where it would be suitable. Together, I am sure we will be able to sit by a window of "our Cliff House", which someone pointed out is really our own room in the Cottage of Lost Play, and watch not only John Robert's, but Arthur's, chapters of the Never Ending Story, continue for a very long time to come. (Whew!)

Just wanted to say once more, thank you to all who worked to bring these chapters to light. I wish you and your loved ones joy, peace, and comfort in this season of hope.

I review so seldom, but I faithfully check for updates every Monday. Thanks to those carrying on Fiondil's work. I am starting to dread the moment the updates just stop. Ellie, Mari and Shemyaza, do you have any idea what Fiondil intended as an ending? Will you be able to give us a summary? Or are you able to create your own ending? I don't want to create extra work for anyone, I just want to know what to prepare myself for, mentally and emotionally. You are all carrying out an amazing work of love for a fellow writer.
Author's reply
Hi there, Shemyaza here! Sorry I haven't answered reviews lately, but I will get around to them. To answer your question, none of us really have an idea of how Fiondil was going to finish the story. I know that he intended at least 100 chapters and the task of finishing his story is yet under review. I did actually finish the rest of the last chapter he wrote because it ended halfway through. I tried to keep the writing style as much like his as possible and I have mulled over the idea of finishing the story myself. I honestly don't think that Fiondil had decided how to end it, but whatever happens, if we do continue the story on, we will try to remain faithful to what we know Fiondil would have wanted, although his descriptions of dress and food might be more difficult for us. I think out of all of us perhaps Ellie would be able to do that. As to the ending, I know for a fact that he had no idea at the point of his death exactly how he was going to end it. Of course at that point, although he knew his health was bad, he wasn't expecting to leave us so soon. I did speak with him not long before his death and he was still mulling over the direction of the story.
harrowcat · 13 December 2016 · Chapter 46: Seeking Employment
I was about to say the same thing about Hugh Beringer Larner. Isn't Cenred also the name of the old priest's assistant, (verger), in 'A Raven in the Foregate? Methinks friend Fiondil was paying homage to Ellis Peters. Still loving every minute of this and can't believe we are nearing a year's worth of publishing. Thank you for all your care.
Larner · 13 December 2016 · Chapter 46: Seeking Employment
Ah, but it is good that they have apparently found the place prepared for them, as well as a good place to hide the dagger. I find myself wishing I'd studied the tengwar better than I ever did. R*g*ng. Ringing? Not that that word is either Sindarin or Quenya, of course. Of course, with the last name of Beringar I find myself wondering if Cenred is kin to Hugh? Oh, I know--different author and all.... Heh!

Just the changes in agriculture alone are staggering to contemplate in the lives of Elves. So glad the story is continuing. Thanks
