Lol - of course, enter Amrothos! What are brothers for but to stir up trouble?? And looming war and loss... Though Amrothos' comment about "What has she done now?" makes me wonder if she pulled an Eowyn and that's how she watched her loved one die.
Between wanting a baby so badly and seeing loved ones (whether or not she admits it) go off to war again, poor Lotheriel! I hope she gets left in charge - that would at least keep her busy, but Eomer being Eomer, I don't know that he'd consider that. And I'm sure there will be peril in the near future - just how much and to whom with what results, I'm waiting with baited breath to see. :-)
Author's reply
Now you're making me feel guilty for burdening Lothiriel with so much trouble - but I'm afraid my characters have to earn their happy endings with a bit of angst first. As for leaving her in charge, since this is a decision of the mind, not the heart, he might just do the sensible thing ;-)

Amrothos is no help at all. He is contributing to bad timing. With Eomer going to war, he and Lothiriel need to have a real talk before he goes. Let's just hope they come to the same conclusion.
Author's reply
I'm afraid all the main characters in this story have bad timing! And knowing Eomer and Lothiriel, do you think they'll really do the sensible thing?

Oh Eomer, you still have a lot to learn about women and your Queen especially. That was such a nice outing. I loved the end with the sun setting and dusk bleaching out all the colors. It perfectly matched the ending of their time alone.
Author's reply
Thanks! So often what we feel also influences the way we look at the world, doesn't it.

Oh, dear--put his foot in it again, he has, with his apparent frustration not to have conceived an heir as yet. Now she think's he's mad at her for it! He needs a good Gibbs slap!
Author's reply
Perhaps fate will give him a slap eventually ;-) But in this instance I think it's not so much Lothiriel misinterpreting his frustration, but that she wants a baby so much that it hurts to hear of somebody else being pregnant.
Have a nice Sunday!

Awwww... bless them. Looks like she's falling for him too - but still thinking that they're both holding to the bargin! At least Eomer is learning... He's delightfully adorable trying so hard to be patient or say the right thing - and failing utterly. :-)

You have to give him marks for trying though, don't you. They're just not very good at communicating ;-)

Oh poor lad - he does try, doesn't he? But he has been so busy being a warrior he's really got no idea, sometimes :)

Yes, I don't see him as very eloquent. I actually got the idea from an incident many years ago when my dad gave my mum a kitchen utensil for Christmas - not a very successful present ;-D

I love this chapter. It had the beginnings of a better understanding between Eomer and Lothiriel. Although it began with a misunderstanding, it ended in harmony. Eomer did not have a chance to spoil their understanding. He really should stop "assuming" anything about Lothiriel. She will surprise him.
Author's reply
Yes, definitely a better understanding. And as you said, with Lothiriel asleep, Eomer couldn't put his foot in it ;-D

Now, hopefully he's beginning to appreciate that Lothiriel responds well to being included in all the typical Rohirric activities, including helping the foaling mares!

Yes, perhaps he's slowly realising that the 'Gondorian noblewoman' is not all there is to Lothiriel! Sometimes he's not the quickest off the mark ;-D

Another thoroughly absorbing chapter! I was never really a fan of Eomer, (I adore Aragorn), but you have made him such a sympathetic character that I see him differently now. I know all is going to turn out well when all the misunderstandings are sorted out, but please take your time and keep the story going for a lot longer!
Author's reply
I like them both, but I have to admit I lost my hear to Eomer the first time I read the books (many years ago now!). And what's really nice is that we know next to nothing about Lothiriel, so that opens up so many more possibilites than with Aragorn and Arwen.
And don't worry, there will be plenty of chapters before their misunderstandings are sorted out ;-) Aragorn will actually make an appearance in one of them, so you've got an additional treat to look forward to (at least I hope you'll like my Aragorn!)

Eeeeee!!! I love absolutely everything about this chapter! You usual, beautifully vivid character portrayals and so many wonderful interactions - the Lothiriel/Northwind one especially. And a smug Northwind - that just takes the cake...
Oh - and I didn't mean that I want to see Lothiriel's POV now (I love the tension of how you're showing us it all from Eomer's perspective), but after this was done - to see some of the things/situations through her eyes. Guess that's where reader's imagination comes in! :-)
Author's reply
Thank you! I think Northwind only came in so they could fuss over her wonderful son and he'd get propery admired ;-)
And I see what you meant about Lothiriel POV. But they will have an open talk - eventually... - to show what she made of the whole situation.
Thanks for reviewing!

Oh, Eomer. You need to learn to control your temper. Every time he might get Lothiriel to open up, he ruins the moment. But it is fun to watch him floundering. Lothiriel is very clever in securing his men's loyalty. If he ever gets on the wrong side of Lothiriel his men will defend her ;-).
Author's reply
It's fun to write him floundering too ;-) And LOL, that would be an amusing scene if his men took her side against him for annoying her!

Oh well done Lothíriel - and now you have people around you who not only admire you, but are coming to really like you as well.
And Éomer really should ask her who she 'sees' - but I can understand why he doesn't.

Yes, she's settling in nicely in Rohan, isn't she. I have to admit it's fun writing a story about their domestic life as a married couple!

Poor Eomer... he is well and truly besotted - just doesn't know it yet. You don't get scared for someone and can't be jealous of something you if you truly don't care! I would give good money to be a fly on the wall the next time he sees Eowyn - she'll see right through him and tell him so. :-)
I love the way you're writing this - I can totally feel Eomer's frustration and the building tension of the unknowing and growing desire to know; you're doing that so well! I really want to see what's on the inside of Lotheriel too (would love to see something from her POV for this whole time - hint, hint). Poor guy...
Author's reply
Hi Lyana,
sadly Eowyn is too busy in Ithilien at the moment, but they will get a visit from a loving family member sometime in the next few chapters ;-)
As for writing from Lothiriel's POV, I'm afraid I rather like the uncertainty in the reader's mind when we only get Eomer's side of the story (a bit like real life, I suppose, as we never know what people truly think). However, her thoughts and motives should become clearer with time.

Oh, but he DOES have the habit of shooting himself in his foot, doesn't he? Heh! She is proving a most intelligent lady and fully suitable to her role as Queen of Rohan. He just needs to get over his jealousy of her lost infatuation.

Yes, he did put his foot in, didn't he ;-D
But of course to get over being jealous, you first have to admit to yourself that you care. And I think Eomer is not quite there yet...

LOL! Eomer has been skillfully managed and he just now gets a glimpse of it. He really has a lot to learn about his wife. Finding the key to Lothiriel will not be easy. She seems to have made some bad experiences in her previous life and trust will not come easily.

It is good to see him actually wanting to see more of her as a real person not just a capable queen; nice that he is beginning to get those glimpses too. I loved the conversation about him being easy to please.
I did worry that he was really going to undo any work he had already done to get to know her when he was so angry in case she was hurt but, good lad, he managed to say the right things - I hope she ponders them a little later.
And how astute of him to realise he might also be being manipulated - and I hope he realises what a compliment this is to her!
