Imrahoil · 10 January 2004 · Chapter 18: One Shall Pass

Oh noooooooooooooooooooo. How could you do this! I don't mind (so much) if someone kills off one of the remaining Fellowship, they usually come back, don't they? But Bergil? He was such a wonderful character. *sniff* Does he perhaps come back?

Miriel · 10 January 2004 · Chapter 18: One Shall Pass

My mouth is open in shock and tears fill my eyes. HOW IN GODS GREEN EARTH COULD YOU KILL BERGIL?!!!! Although, it tisn't God's green earth, it's Middle earth. But I'm still crying. :-( :'( *sniff* I guess you can update soon... Actually, please do update soon. :-) I'm going to go read "Cantrip" I need a pick-me-up after this. Well written except for the sadness. (I really am crying, BTW. And I am rarely moved to such emotion in reading.)

e · 9 January 2004 · Chapter 18: One Shall Pass

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHLRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You killed him! That was entirely uncalled for! *considers* Actually, in the story it might have been unavoidable, but that does not excuse you in the least! Is that understood? You will have to make up for that by updating fast! For the rest of this story!

Miriel · 7 January 2004 · Chapter 17: And I Must Follow, If I Can

I just checked this to see if you have updated it, and low and behold, you had. I had forgotten the SoA does not tell you when a chapter is updated, just when it is new. Grr... Anyway, I'm not sure what to say. It's interesting that you have the whole gang together again (except Gimli). I want to read more about Bergil and Belatiel, and I do hope that Mortsdil doesn't kill Legolas. Please update soon! (Especially since you have the next chapter written!) :-) Cheers!

Author's reply

Miriel- I think I ought to get extra points for updating so soon. *sighs miserably* Don't worry, Mortsdil doesn't kill Legolas. I'm only stretching canon, so if Tolkien specifically said they lived, then they get to live. Thank you for the review! :)

Imrahoil · 7 January 2004 · Chapter 17: And I Must Follow, If I Can

10 minutes ago my mantra was "Bryn is back, Bryn is back, Bryn is back", now it is once again "No character death, no character death, please, no character death" and "I hate cliffhangers, I hate cliffhangers, I HATE CLIFFHANGERS". It seems you're not only back, you're your old self again and I don't have to pester you any longer for updates. Well, Thundera Tiger, it's your turn then.

Author's reply

Imrahoil- Hooray for speedy updates! Character death... yes, well, if it makes you feel any better, I've gone and made myself absolutely miserable. I didn't want to do it, but it was part of the tale. *sigh* I promise to never kill off said character again. Yeah, it IS time for a Thundera update!! Must go pester her... ;) Thank you for the review!!

Capn Jak Sparrow · 20 December 2003 · Chapter 16: The Messenger

Uh oh... Poor Gimli! I hope Aragorn can save everybody!

Capn Jak Sparrow · 20 December 2003 · Chapter 15: Two If By Sea

Oh no! Don't let anything happen to Gimli or Legolas! Good chapter though...

Capn Jak Sparrow · 20 December 2003 · Chapter 12: So Flows the Current

This was a wonderful chapter bryn. I love how you write Legolas' and Gimli's friendship. It's really great! Keep up the good work on the story!

Capn Jak Sparrow · 19 December 2003 · Chapter 11: Foresight

This is a great story so far bryn! I am really loving it!

Thundera Tiger · 16 December 2003 · Chapter 17: And I Must Follow, If I Can

*breathes grateful sigh of relief* You live! I was actually going to email you if you continued to dwell in that horrid place known as the real world, but thankfully, you're back where you belong! With us! Ah, the glory of collective insanity! Anyway, may I just say that I LOVE the little snippet you've given us? And now I have to go read Cantrip, and what's this about a new story? Clearly I'm out of the loop, but considering that I went on hiatus for a couple months, that's not too surprising. And Ithilien might kill you, but Khamul knows a good necromancer, so we can get you back to finish this story up. Speaking of which... I love the snippet you've given us! I don't want to give a full review yet because the chapter isn't here in full and my ideas are only partially formed, but I am so intrigued and so excited about the possibility of more. PLEASE don't give up on this tale. If you do, I more than understand, but you are required to give me an outline of where it was going to go if you do abandon it. Anyway, I hope the real world treats you well and just remember that you'll always have your friends in the random world of online madness. We do care about you, Bryn, and I apologize if I've been unfairly pressuring you. (You have to realize, though, that this is one of my favorite stories.) Anyway, here's to you and I hope you can find time to catch up and breathe!

Author's reply

Thundera- Thank goodness, yes, I do live... slightly battered but still able to stand. *takes several minutes to knock on everything wooden in sight* Cantrip sort of grew from the Aragorn-Halbarad scene in marinus and the Elladan's-a-gamboling-addict-thanks-to-Halbarad scene in Out of the Frying Pan. *snicker* Couldn't help it. Oh I'm going to complete this tale, even if I'm dagging myself to the finish line! It will be finished! It WILL!!! I'm excited to see you've finally updated as well. (As I mentioned to Ithilien--there was some issue of medication and crawling computer screens... made reading rather difficult...) I plan to hop on over and read as soon as I can. *hugs Your Thranduil in excitement until he begins to turn somewhat blue and growls* Please pass on my fondest regards to Khamul. He looked well in the 3rd movie and sure scared me with all that standing by my bedside and shrieking he's been up to. Oh, and I apologize for the shoe I threw at him. ;) Thank you for the fantastic review!!!

Miriel · 12 December 2003 · Chapter 17: And I Must Follow, If I Can

Snippet! No! That's not enough! What of Gimli? Who is speaking to Legolas! Bryn, you must update soon! Please?

Author's reply

Miriel- I felt so awful about not posting anything in such a long time I thought a snippet the very least I could do. Poor Gimli's still... well, being towed under the ship. And Legolas, well, at least we know he's living. I originally had him rescued by a fishing boat, then realized that wouldn't quite work. So he gets a little special Valar interference. Hooray for mighty Ulmo! Thank you for the great review!! :)

Ithilien · 12 December 2003 · Chapter 17: And I Must Follow, If I Can

Augh! That's almost as cruel as not posting at all! Ooh! Keel-hauling? *glurg gulp glubble* Not good for Gimli. As for Legolas, who is he conversing with in the waves? I know you wouldn't kill him off, so I have to assume he really has been b#tch-slapped by a wave. Okay, I've been patient this long. I can wait a bit longer. And yes, yes, yes, as much as I want to shake my head and tell you you have been naughty for taking on another fic, I have to admit I have missed your wit on these pages. If it stirs up your muses, write away. Just don't forget us folk back here wanting to know what's going to happen next on Marinus (I know I can get Thundera on my side with this -- I'm seeing a major fanfic campaign with readers emailing you daily, pestering you for more -- even if it is just she and I doing it. Actually, I can think of a few others who would probably join in on the *fun* -- I know a lot of people who are hooked on this story too). As for real life, aw, isn't that vortex a pain? It shows up all over the place, here too. I hope you're finding your way back to the asylum. We miss you. In the meantime, did you see that the MPA nominations want you? If you haven't, email me and I'll send you the details. Seems Out of the Frying Pan is a big hit and they want to pit it against other stories in their Humor category. They need your response soon though. So hurry! In the meantime, I'll put out my wailing plea. It can be rather penetrating, so you'd better hold your ears and squint your eyes if you don't want it to have a serious effect on your other writing. MOOOOOOORRRRRRRE PLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASSSSSE SOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!! Okay, you can relax now. I'm done.

Author's reply

Dearest, dearest Ithilien- :) Your tale is at the very top of my "Must Finish Reading And Reviewing" list. Plus I keep wondering what happened to the characters on a daily basis. (Medication made the computer screen too crawly to read. Kinda creeped me out.) I really tried to block the Other Story muse, but it just didn't work. I've still managed to stave off posting another one, though, if that counts for something. Though the prologue has been written for a month. And is just sitting there. Staring at me. Ohhh I was so excited and thrilled and shocked by the nomination!!! I've never been nominated for anything! (It makes me go into automatic high squealy girl mode--the "Eeee, the small furry animal is so cute!" or "Eeee, it's a baby!"--that one--whenever I think about it.) Thank you so much for the review!!! It left me laughing and chomping at the bit to go finish the chapter. :)

Elena Tiriel · 12 December 2003 · Chapter 17: And I Must Follow, If I Can

Aaauuugh! You didn't leave us with a snippet -- you left us with a DOUBLE cliff-hanger! Aaaaauuuggh! I'm really sympathetic about the RL problems you've been having. Really I am. But that doesn't excuse extreme CRUELTY to your readers! Aaaaaauuughh! *Barbara grumbles... well, I suppose I should be glad that at least you didn't dissect any more elves...*

Author's reply

Elena Tiriel- Oh man, I didn't do any better with the cliff-hangers this time either... The next chapter is already written, though, so you won't have to wait too long! (At least, that is my intention. The phrase seems to have backfired on me quite a bit as of late.) *grin* Speaking of dissections... still attempting to *ahem* "borrow" Haldir... ;) Thank you for the review!

Imrahoil · 12 December 2003 · Chapter 17: And I Must Follow, If I Can

O.k., no more threats, it doesn't work anyway. It's good you're back.

Author's reply

Imrahoil- I really do try to write and post as quickly as I can. I promise. :) Thank you for the review!!

Miriel · 9 December 2003 · Chapter 11: Foresight

Haha...I love Bergil's sleepy plan. That's awesome. I do the same thing. :) "Pull, don't push." I loved that! I think that we are all speaking from experience here. *Ahem.* Ew...the eyelid description. Mm...about halfway through the story, your paragraphs have double spaces in them. Haha...Arwens eyes...the power of a woman. Interesting that this madwoman has such insight on this situation. Marvolous, really. Bergil + Bitaliel + crazy King Aragorn= Interesting plot! Incredible descriptions of the sand-supported palace. I love that idea. I'd love to read more, but I"ve barely had time to get on and update "Return from the Void." (Yup, it's updated, and more chapters are forthcoming!) I'll try and get on and review again soon--I must know what happens!

Imrahoil · 29 October 2003 · Chapter 14: Ask Nothing In Return

I wouldn't mind your attention span but only if I got your creativity as well and then I would use your creativity to punish you for every single cliffhanger. Would you like to swap?

The Karenator · 28 October 2003 · Chapter 16: The Messenger

bryn, Bergil is back. Batty is having a cryptic moment and Aragorn is scratching his head over why in all of Arda would Gimli leave his axe behind. I loved Aragorn's reply to Bergil when Bergil voiced his hope that the woman would ride the horse off a cliff. “Nay—the horse is too smart.” I agree with Bergil; that is a bit of the old Aragorn. I have not quite gotten a handle on Hadeem yet. He's mysterious to some degree, but I can't tell which side his bread is buttered on. I wish Eowyn had a better translator, too. Little mistakes..like calling one's prize stallion a cow... can really disrupt negotiations. Men are so funny about stuff like that. You could probably call his wife...or wives, maybe, in his case...a sway-backed bovine fly catcher and that would be fine, but his horse! Oh, what dangerous ground we tread. This is moving along well. You're juggling a lot of characters and keeping them in the fray. I'm ready now for the next chapter. :>)Karen

The Karenator · 28 October 2003 · Chapter 15: Two If By Sea

SO..just why did Aragorn send Eomer away? I can guess that he didn't want Eomer to interrupt his little quest, but...I'll just have to wait and see. At least we got to see cute little Elfwine. Ahh.h.h And then Eomer rode of into the night...to Faramir? Or did he? Well...a fine mess Gimli found himself in. Personally, when Mortsdil asked how many Elves, I would have told him that such numbers had not been seen Dagorlad. But no...Gimli is honest. Meanwhile..back at the sea....Legolas is caught in the undertow and sucked into the depths of the tumbling swirling water. We can get a metaphor out this one and it's a dang good one. Poor elf...he's drowning all over the place. Another good chapter...I'm off to the next one....Karen

The Karenator · 28 October 2003 · Chapter 14: Ask Nothing In Return

bryn, Your descriptions of the Void were so well done. Mortsdil thoughts and welling panic at the nothingness, but yet, the confines of the dark space were eery. He's such a slug. Not that his companion is a little ray of sunshine. You give them such a dangerous, despicable,well...evil visage. Their dialogue has this sort of sly, infected (I do mean, infected...like a plague!) word play that fairly drips of malice. Morgoth is so happily evil! Poor Legolas. His subborn Elven pride just will not let him admit to Gimli or to himself that he can't fight the sea longing with a well placed arrow. Gimli handles this well. The strength of this friendship is easy to see. I like the way you write their interaction. Good show. I'm reading on.....see ya next chapter. Karen

The Karenator · 26 October 2003 · Chapter 13: Chasing Past to Present

bryn This was another good chapter....actually all the newly posted ones are. I'm condensing into just this one so I won't bore you too badly. You have continued to keep your characters moving...and thus the story...and remain true to the conflict. There is humor and good dialogue. I loved the scenes between Gimli and Legolas. "Death of elf by axe"! Loved it! Bergil is such a fun fellow...reminds me of Halbarad from Aragorn's memories. I guess Bergil kind of reminds Aragorn of his old friend, too. It was a sad moment for Aragorn to recall Halbarad and sense his loss. The set up of the pirates and their allies was quite good. We're seeing everything sort of begin to gel....taking us along to the next chapter. Your pace is good and the flow is smooth. I'm looking forward to reading more. Karen

Jay of Lasgalen · 24 October 2003 · Chapter 13: Chasing Past to Present

I think I've reviewed this chapter before, on ff.net, but I'm a writer, so I know how important reviews are. Legolas' unease and embarrassment was wonderfully written when Gimli revealed his desires. And Legolas' repeated excuse 'but Ris had a beard' was marvellous! I like this story, and hope you will post all of it here soon. I can no longer review on ff.net, so only review here or by e-mail. An update would be greatly appreciated! Jay

Miriel · 20 October 2003 · Chapter 9: Visions and Betrayal

The use of the storm in this is magnificent...the sea is truly out of balance, is it not? Wow...what Legolas saw in the Silmaril...I'm speechless. That was so well written! The calling of the sea..it has many meanings. *Screams* No! UPdate, update, update!!! Once again, I love your use of the weather. The seas' calling...if Legolas is to go to the sea, what will happen to him? Cheers, and update soon!

Author's reply

Legolas + Sea + Silmaril = Not A Good Combination Righty, I'm off to update! Thank you for the many wonderful reviews, Miriel!!! :)

Miriel · 20 October 2003 · Chapter 8: The Pain of Duty

Melkor is very impatient. Also a bit crazed. Oo. *Winces* Lovely man, that Mortsdil. Oh, how sad. They killed Terigon...his poor wife. (Although she's not in much better shape.) Hopefully Iluvatar will have mercy on him. Oh, yes, Melkor is in SUCH a position to offer rewards...or will the Silmaril enable him to return to ME? *Gasp* As a little old lady? :) The letters on the Ring WERE a form of Tengwar.

Author's reply

I suppose being chained in a Void for eternity does have its drawbacks. Like insanity. I wonder if he talks to himself. Tegiron was a good guy, overall. He's probably at peace with little Muriel. Poor Bitaliel! Yes, yes, the Silmaril is the key! Mortsdil is the tool (though he doesn't quite know it yet, does he?) *snicker* You know in 'The Emperor's New Groove' when Eezma is transformed into the cat? I'm having visions of Melkor as a little old lady... "Muwahaha--is that... is that MY voice?" I thought the Ring letters were Tengwar of some sort....

Miriel · 20 October 2003 · Chapter 7: Adrift

Interesting how Legolas sees Minas Tirith as a prison. Interesting as well how even his horse is skittish of the city. Does Arwen feel the same at times, I wonder? LOL at Vargon. I do that sometimes... Haha. Legolas just aimlessly wanders off into the city. Aragorn showing off the jewel reminds me of Frodo in the movies. ("No! Put that thing away, someones going to take it! Wait...no, leave it out...pretty ring...") Balnce of the Sea, Earth, and Sky. Just like the Rings...very well put. He wants to lock it up! like Feanor! And Thingol! No...we KNOW what happened to them... Thank goodness that the elves will take counsel together.

Author's reply

I did some researching on the significance of 3, because Tolkien seems to use a lot of it. Not only can it represent eternity, but it can represent balance as well. And the 3 elements. I found it interesting that one stone was taken into the sky and became a star of sorts (the element of Air), one was tossed into the sea (I believe that was my buddy Maedhros, poor guy. There we have the element of Water), and one got tossed into a crack in the earth (*grimace* grasping at straws, can't quite remember who was responsible for that one, but there is the element of Fire). Again, I repeat: BAD ARAGORN! ;)

Miriel · 20 October 2003 · Chapter 6: A Precursory Storm

Ouch. Bergil's poor head. I enjoy Legolas' respones to the curiousity of mortals. Glowing Legolas...Shh! Not so loud! The fangirls will hear! Where did Bitaliel get the box? From her home? At first I thought that it was the box the Silmaril came in, but then I realized that it had washed up boxless. What did I miss? *Groans* Why did Aragorn look at it in Bitaliel's prescense? Stupid, stupid, man. At least exercise the proper self control and WAIT until later. Has he no brains? (Sorry for ranting.) Ew. Gross. Why would she do that? Pain yes, but...ugh. Stone for the Elfstone...*shivers* Does she not wish to see the stone? Is that it? I loved the visual of Arwen running down the hall. I want to look like that at night, instead of something that makes others shriek. :)

Author's reply

Yes, BAD ARAGORN! BAD! Seeing as Bitaliel's insane (um, no pun intended there), I suppose in an odd crazy sort of way it would make sense for her to gouge her eyes out. You're right--she doesn't want to see the stone. And she thinks the only way to avoid doing so is to get rid of her eyes. That way she won't see it even by accident. My Arwen impersonation would probably consist of me tripping over said flowing nightgown and tumbling down several flights of stairs... Curse those Elves and their light-footedness. :)
