daw the minstrel · 4 July 2004 · Chapter 5: Bathtime

Oh my goodness! I suppose, in a way, it wouldn't matter if the bracelets got switched on the first day since in most babies, it would just be a matter of a new name and what do they know? But when you are talking about the heir of Imladris, it presumably DOES matter. Not that that seems a very big concern to these folks. Perhaps their parents will be able to tell, especially since the could commune with them before they were born.

Author's reply

I've decided that the twins would be joint heirs. Elves measure age from the point of conception, which in this case was a single event. The fact that Elladan was born first makes no difference (except when he keeps calling Elrohir 'little brother' to annoy him in later stories.) Now, how will Elrond and Celebrian work out which is which? ;)

Karri · 4 July 2004 · Chapter 5: Bathtime

Oi! A calamity indeed! A very entertaining chapter, Jay. I am looking forward to finding out of ada and nana can tell them apart. ;-)

Author's reply

I'm working on that part, and how Elrond and Celebrian react when they hear what happened! Thanks for the review.

Karri · 3 July 2004 · Chapter 4: How The Mighty Are Fallen

A terribly sweet start. I really enjoyed Glorfindel tickling little Elrohir with his braid and the sleeping in a drawer. The whole thing had a very authentic twin feel to it.

Author's reply

I think Glorfindel (and Erestor, when his turn comes) will be wonderful uncles to the twins. I'm glad you thought the twin bit was authentic, as I'm working in the dark here! I just hope I haven't overdone the 'ah' factor, and made the tale too cloying - but I think they all deserve some sweetness after previous events. Jay

Nilmandra · 3 July 2004 · Chapter 4: How The Mighty Are Fallen

A lovely look at the newborn twins, Jay! The mighty have fallen indeed. :D

Author's reply

Thanks, Nilmandra. Poor Glorfindel didn't stand a chance, did he? I decided not to describe the twins' introduction to the rest of Imladris, as you did it so well in History Lessons II, but I'm quite sure it's what would have happened. Like the opening of The Lion King. Jay

Bodkin · 3 July 2004 · Chapter 4: How The Mighty Are Fallen

'Oh brave new world, that has such creatures in it.' (I think - I haven't checked the exact wording.) Gorgeous little elflings, capturing Glorfindel without a fight. I'm glad Elrohir seems to have recovered from his traumatic arrival. This is a lovely picture of life in Imladris. More please.

Author's reply

Oh, well done! I hoped someone would spot the reference! Glorfindel succumbed as easily as everyone else in Imladris will. And Elrohir is fine, though everyone will naturally be a little worried about him for a while. More soon, I promise. Jay

daw the minstrel · 3 July 2004 · Chapter 4: How The Mighty Are Fallen

I was so glad to see Elrond thinking that a rainy day was beautiful, even if Glorfindel disagreed. I'm quite partial to rainy days myself. I think they're often mysteriously lovely. And I know how Celebrian feels about leaving them. At first, I was frantic with totally irrational worry if I left my son.

Author's reply

I agree with you about rainy days, but this was a rather horrible rainy day. Elrond just didn't notice. As for Celebrian's worries, let me just say that they may not be totally irrational ... Jay

LKK · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 3: Four For Joy

Elrond definitely proved himself to be ME's greatest healer. And a what a task! Can there be any responsibility more important than successfully bringing new life to full life? My respect goes out to him. And to you, Jay. This was a mystical chapter. You managed to put me there in the middle of a miracle. Fantastic!

Author's reply

Poor Elrond panicked at first, but when he pulled himself together, he did perform a miracle. I wonder what would have happened to Elladan if Elrohir had died?

Elendiari22 · 18 April 2004 · Chapter 3: Four For Joy

Awww! This is so sweet! I'm glad that Elrohir is okay, and I like the way Elrond saved him. Thank you for a great chapter!

Author's reply

I stick to canon when I write, and I couldn't (permanently) kill my favourite twin! It's just as well Elrond is the great healer he is, or things would have turned out differently.

Nilmandra · 18 April 2004 · Chapter 3: Four For Joy

Jay, at least I have never killed him! Glad to see both babies contentedly together, and heaven help anyone who tries to separate them. Elrond's power was shown well.

Author's reply

I didn't kill him either! (or at least, not permanently). The bond between the twins is already strong, and the new parents are going to find it a problem at times. It's a good thing Elrond is such a good healer, though.

Vi Janaway · 17 April 2004 · Chapter 3: Four For Joy

:) :) :) :) :) :) Thank you....

Author's reply

You're welcome ...

Yuna_Dax · 17 April 2004 · Chapter 3: Four For Joy

Awwwwwwww! Utter sweetness :) The usual angst tempered with the magic of healing. I feel like squealing like a spoilt aunty! Brilliance as always!

Author's reply

Well, as Gandalf said, Elrond is a master of healing. He just didn't expect to have to do it on his own son. Glad you liked it!

Bodldops · 17 April 2004 · Chapter 3: Four For Joy

Whoot! Very nice turn-around there. I've always wanted to see Elrond do something like that... though maybe not to Elrohir!

Author's reply

Well, I had to save Elrohir, he's my favourite twin. I doubt if Elrond could perform that sort of healing to anyone other than his own family.

daw the minstrel · 17 April 2004 · Chapter 3: Four For Joy

Thank you so much for the update, Jay! Elrond apparently startled even himself! The description of the healing was very impressive. I liked the way the two babies wanted to be together.

Author's reply

I decided I couldn't leave things as they were for long. Elrond - cool, collected Elrond - panicked at first, then overreacted, so poor Elrohir was rather blasted with healing energy. Fortunately there were no lasting effects. I have always written the twins as having a very close bond, so this was the way to start it.

LKK · 16 April 2004 · Chapter 2: And Then There Were Three

When you said that the fluffiness was coming to an end, I never suspected you meant one of the twins would be stillborn! The title of Chapter 3 had better be "And Then There Were Four"; otherwise, you'll need to rename your story!! Ai! Poor Elrohir! I hope master healer and anxious father Elrond can save him. :(

Author's reply

When I said angst, I *meant* angst! Have you been reading my notes for the next chapter?

Vi Janaway · 16 April 2004 · Chapter 2: And Then There Were Three

This is not fair...is the baby really dead?

Author's reply

Put it this way - it's not AU.

daw the minstrel · 15 April 2004 · Chapter 2: And Then There Were Three

I sympathize with Celebrian's comment that the babies would be more trouble once they were born. Boy, is that the truth! I know you're not going to kill Elrohir, Jay, but how are you going to save him?

Author's reply

You'll have to wait and see - I'm frantically writing the next chapter, because I can't bear to leave them all like that!

Elendiari22 · 15 April 2004 · Chapter 2: And Then There Were Three

Oh, dear! Bring on the next chapter!

Author's reply

Soon, I promise. Soon.

Bodldops · 15 April 2004 · Chapter 2: And Then There Were Three

Aiee! That was not nice. Now you've got my Elrohir!muse beating up on me... I know this never helps, but please update soon. I love how you write the interaction between Elrond and Celebrian. I did wonder, however, why Glorfindel and Erestor could not hear that there were two melodies, not just one...

Author's reply

Whoops! You caught me out there - umm ... maybe they were just not listening as carefully as Elrond and Celebrian? They are males, after all, and aren't so interested in babies!

Yuna_Dax · 15 April 2004 · Chapter 2: And Then There Were Three

EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK!! The story itself is beautifully told, but the angst is heartstopping. There have been numererous fics relating to the birth of the twins, and not one of them has the heartfelt angst and turmoil of yours. It was just assumed that the birth had no complications and I'm appreciating the twist of events! :)

Author's reply

You know how I love angst, especially twin angst! So I started as I mean to go on. Poor Elrohir!

Elvenesse · 15 April 2004 · Chapter 2: And Then There Were Three

Well you've certainly got rid of the fluff. I know that both twins turn out okay, as they ride with Aragorn in RotK (unless you're being particularly nasty and tricking people into believing this follows canon when it's really an AU). I liked the idea of the mithril bracelets, a very nice way of making sure they can name them and tell them apart (much nicer than the horrible plastic id bracelets used in hospitals). I was re-reading chapter one and thought this was a nice sentence, and very true! She smiled, an unbelievably sweet, joyous smile. “Aye. Twins. Two sons. Our sons. My love, I think our lives will never be the same again!”

Author's reply

No, it's not AU. You'll just have to wait and see how things resolve! The mithril bracelets are indeed the Middle Earth equivalent of hospital bracelets (and also based on a silver Christening bracelet I had as a baby).

Amlee · 29 February 2004 · Chapter 1: In The Beginning

Ok you need to update this!!!! I want more!

Ren · 27 October 2003 · Chapter 1: In The Beginning

This is very nice!! continue this, please.

daw the minstrel · 25 October 2003 · Chapter 1: In The Beginning

I enjoyed the loving relationship you showed between these two. And Elrond's comment that their life would never be the same? He has no idea. Having one child changed my more than anything else that ever happened to me. I cannot imagine what twins would be like, especially since Elrond was one too.

LKK · 24 October 2003 · Chapter 1: In The Beginning

My love, I think our lives will never be the same again! LOL! The very essence of understatement, Jay. I'm delighted that you've started another story involving the Twins. I love your interpretation of them. I'll be watching my story notifications closely, looking for updates on this one. :-) LKK

Nilmandra · 23 October 2003 · Chapter 1: In The Beginning

LOL - and from all we know (ok, perhaps imagine) about the twins, practice surely did make perfect :D
