A Day in the Life of...  by Nina the powerwriter

*crunch!*

"Pip, what was that?" The small lump beside Frodo shifted.

"Nothing, cousin" came a muffled reply then a suspicious munching sound.

"Arn't you going to share?"

"Share what?"

Frodo turned Pippin to face him. "I know you're sneaking cookies in bed every night, dearest. I sweep the crumbs away in the morning."

A defeated sigh was let out before a little hand exstinded out holding a cookie. Frodo accepted it, and they both ate in contented munching.

"Thank you, cousin. Would you like to sneak some more cookies?"

Pippin smiled through the dark. "Could we?"

" *grunt* What do you think it is, Merry?"

"I don't know, Pip, but we do know it's heavy."

"Do you think it's edible?"

"You try to find anything to stuff in your mouth, don't you?"

"I do not! *pause* I often wonder if the green fuzz on the rocks are edible."

"It's not, so don't try eating it!"

"Do you think this thing is poisionous?"

"It may be. Why don't you take the first taste just to make sure it isn't."

"I will sacrifice myself to see if this long, green ball can be added to the hobbit diet."

"Hold off being noble for now. *grunt* We still need to get it up the hill."

I see them when I close my eyes. There is a garden in full bloom at Bag End. Sam is in the midst of the long rows of vegetables. A sweet voice calls his name. He looks up to find his dear wife and their daughter on her hip. He stands and walks toward them, smiling. He tickles Elanor behind her ear. She laughs, her smile bright as sunshine. Rose whispers to him, and then he kisses her tenderly. They are happy, and I am thankful to see their joy, even if I am not there.
