The font size is too large/too small to read.
The text size is dependent on your browser setting. We want to make this site as easy to read as possible, and for some that involves larger font sizes. To reset your browser setting to something more to your liking, Click View --> Text Size (IE) or Text Zoom (Mozilla/Netscape) and set the font to a size you like. We don't want to lose readers who have gone blind from squinting at their screens.

How do I receive notifications when an author posts a new chapter?
You can create an author notification for any author you like. First, login to the site. If you are an author, click on the Reader link in the top navigation bar; otherwise, you should be in the right place. Click on Request Note (to the right of the Author Notifications). Find the author you wish to receive notifications on and click Add. You will now be sent an email when that author posts a new chapter.

How do I change my email or password?
Login to the website, then click on Reader on the top menu. In the submenu that appears, click on User Info. To edit your email address, click on Edit Profile. To change your password, click on Change Password.

How do I Add or Edit my biography?

Click on the User Info link underneath the top navigation bar. You should now be viewing your user information. To change any of the information you see, click on the Edit Profile link. Make your changes and click on the Save Changes button.

How do I Add or Edit my favorite stories?
To add or edit your favorite story list, first login to the site. If you are an author, click on the Reader link in the top navigation bar; otherwise you should be in the right place. Click on the Favorite Stories link underneath the top navigation bar. You should now be viewing a list of all your favorite stories. Click on the Add Favorite Story link at the bottom of the list. Find the story in the drop down list and select it by clicking on it. Now hit the Add button. You will then be returned to the favorite story list page and you should see your story there.

All notifications are controlled by your notification list, which is separate from your favorites list.

If you wish to remove an author, click the checkbox marked Remove that corresponds to the author you wish to delete. Then click the Delete button.

How do I Add or Edit my links list?
To add or edit a link in your links list, first login to the site. If you are an author, click on the Reader link in the top navigation bar; otherwise you should be in the right place. Click on the Links link underneath the top navigation bar. You should now be viewing the links list. To add a link, click on the Add Link link. Fill out the form. Name is the title you want displayed (example: Rorrah's FanFiction Profile page). Address is the URL from the page you wish to link to (example: www.fanfiction.net/~rorrah). Please leave out the HTTP://; we add that for you. Indicate if this link goes to a place that contains adult content. (If you link to an NC-17 story, a graphic R story, or Aff.net please indicate as such). Check the dropdown box and pick the category that best fits the link you are adding.

There are few restrictions (such as porn sites) on what you can link to your profile. Feel free to link to stuff on other archives if you would like. Link to your home page, your work in other fandoms, etc.

How do I become a site author?
Check the guidelines for posting rules. If you are still interested, please ensure you are signed up as a member, then fill out the submission form. Two existing members will review your work to ensure it is of the type that is appropriate for this site. You will be notified by email that you either have author privileges or that your work does not match the type normally posted at storiesofarda.com.

How do I post a story to the archive?
First, are you a site author? Did you receive an email from Nilmandra confirming that you are an author? When you login, do you see the Author Area? If no, please read the information on how to become a site author directly above this. If you do see the Author Area, click on Add Story. Enter your story title and short summary. Indicate the rating and completeness of the story. Then select which characters are in your story. These will allow your story to be searchable by the characters you choose. When you are finished, hit the Add Story button. Your story is now in the archive. However it is not viewable in the public archive until you have added a viewable chapter.

How do I add a chapter to a story?
Log into the site and find the story you wish to add a chapter to on the list. Under the column headed Chapter, click on the link marked Add. (Also, you may add a chapter from the chapter list page. To get to this page, click on the Number that follows after the Add link and this will display a list of all chapters. On this page there is a button called Add Chapter). Pick a chapter number from the list. Then enter a chapter title (optional). If your chapter has adult content, or you worry that it might, click on the warning box. Paste your text into the editor and then hit the Add Chapter button. For additional help with the editor, check the help page on adding chapters for more information on its quirks.

I upload text and it all comes out in one big blob (aka "Where have my line breaks gone?")
Your browser probably doesn't support the text editor. Check the help page on adding chapters for more information.

How do I fix a mistake in a chapter?
Important: Do NOT delete your chapter unless you are prepared to lose any reviews it may have received. If there is any problem with your chapter, you can go in and edit it. Login, and find the story in the list. Click on the number that follows the Add link in the chapter column. This will bring you to the chapter list. Now find the chapter that has the problem and click on the Chapter Title. Inside the editor you can make any changes you like. If you want to completely replace the text, just erase all the existing text (Ctrl/Command -A then the Delete key) and paste in the new text. This will not delete your chapter and its reviews; it simply changes the text. If you delete a chapter, and then add a new one, all links to that first attempt are now broken and all reviews are deleted. So unless you mean to delete your chapter, EDIT don't DELETE.

How do I publish a chapter to the public archive?
After you upload a chapter, you should be on the chapter list page. There are two links, Preview and Publish/Hide. If you see Publish, your chapter is not visible to anyone but you. To make the chapter available to the archive, click on Publish. Make sure you are happy with the formatting of your chapter first by clicking on the Preview link. You can also publish from this screen by clicking on the publish link at the top or bottom of the story.

At what point are email notifications sent out?
Email notification to subscribed readers does not take place until you publish your chapter. If you publish a chapter, then hide a chapter, and then republish a chapter, notification will not reoccur. We announce a new chapter only once.

Where do I go to see chapter hit counts?
Login to the site. Click on the number (chapter count) after the Add link to go to the chapter list for a given story. On the chapter list page, for each chapter, you will see a hit count and a review count.

How do I, as an author, remove certain reviews?
If you have received an offensive or inflammatory review, you can remove it. First login to the site. Now, find your story in the public archive and view the reviews. Find the review you wish to remove. There should be a link below each review. Click on "Remove Review" and the review is deleted. If the review was left by a site member, they can still see the review in their list of reviews, but it is only viewable by the reviewer at this point.

How do I, as an author, reply to reviews on the site?
If you wish to reply to a review directly on the site, first login to the site. Find your story in the public archive and view the reviews. Find the review you wish to reply to and click on the link "Reply" directly under it. Type in your reply and submit the form. Your reply has now been appended to the original review and sent to the reviewer via email if they posted an email address.
