O Eru, I have seen the light, But cannot yet approach its source. Each time I try it fades to night, And leaves me sadness and remorse. When I come near a candle clear the void extinguishes its flame. It leaves me here in ghastly fear all filled with silent guilt and shame. Thou knowest loneliness shall grow As each day silently will pass. I know the joy thou wilt bestow Upon my frozen heart of glass. For I have faith, and I have hope. To Thee I pray with lips of clay that I’d no more in darkness grope, For thou wilt shine Thy brightest day, Of thy creation Day on me, And bring the Song unto my lips, Which Thou hast writ on Life’s tall Tree, The light which brings to shore lost ships. O Father, how can I contain All of the love thou hast to give? Thou and thy Light are Morgoth’s bane, And give me more than joy to live! |
