Agape's Airs & Arias - NOT!  by Agape4Gondor

Boromir's Dead in the Dell  (Song)
To the tune of 'Oh dear what can the matter be'

Oh dear what can the matter be
Oh dear what can the matter be
Oh dear what can the matter be
Boromir’s dead in the dell

He wanted to steal it in when he was in Rivendell
Wanted to steal it in Moria – too dark
Wanted to steal it in fair Lothlorien

Boromir's dead in the dell

They rode down the river And passed by the rapids
They rode to Parth Galen then quick fixed a fire
Frodo went walking and Boromir did find him

And Boromir's dead in the dell

Aragorn went one way and Samwise the other
Merry and Pippin ran off on their own
The Elf and the Dwarf went running their own way

And Boromir’s dead in the dell

To find a true leader – not this day – oh no way
Frodo escaped cause he put on the ring - hey
But Pippin & Merry got caught by the orc band

And Boromir’s dead in the dell

Sam found his Frodo alive at the river
Boromir found his two afright and aquivered
Lurtz found his quary – 'twas all in a dither.

And Boromir’s dead in the dell

They fought and they parried, the man and the Hobbits
They screamed and they yelled trying hard to survive
They scurried and scampered but still they were captured

Cause Boromir’s dead in the dell….

FORGIVE ME - I love Boromir to pieces, but this just came - the Muse can be absolutely heinous!

Ch. 2 - The Rohirrim sang gustily as they followed their Marshal northward… (SONG)

Ridin’ ridin’ ridin' ridin' ridin' ridin' Rohaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn*

Keep ridin’ ridin’ ridin’ though the grass is hidin’
Orcs and beasts a runnin’ Rohan!
Through apples and poisoned water, and armour that is freezin’
Wishin’ a girl was by my side
All the things I’m missin’ like Theodred and Boromir
Nothin’s waitin’ at the end of my ride.

Move 'em on head 'em up
head 'em up move 'em on
Move 'em on head 'em up Rohan!
Cut 'em down ride 'em in
ride 'em in cut 'em down
Cut 'em down ride 'em in Rohan!

Movin’ movin’ movin’ though Theoden’s disapprovin’
Keep them Orcs a runnin’ Rohan!
Don’t try to understand ‘em, just shoot and kill and maim ‘em
Soon we’ll be livin’ high and wide
My bottom’s calculatin’ how many more miles
Are ‘for us ere we’re at the end of our ride.

Move 'em on head 'em up
head 'em up move 'em on
Move 'em on head 'em up Rohan!
Cut 'em down ride 'em in
ride 'em in cut 'em down
Cut 'em down ride 'em in Rohan!

There was no 'character' listing for the Rohirrim as a whole - so I just highlighted Eomer - since he's their Marshal during this ride toward the Orc battle near Fangorn Forest - my apologies to the author of  the theme song from the television show, 'Rawhide' ( Rowdie Gaines).

Ch. 3 - My Immortal

Brother, where art thou?
I turn and you are gone
Like flowers in the spring

Beautiful needed rain
Beats them down
Till they are crushed
Naught left but petals on the ground.

Brother, where art thou?
I turn and you are gone
Like leaves from the trees

Holding on to strong branches
Until pulled down
By old age and weakness
They lie decayed on the ground.

Brother, where art thou?
I scream and you are gone.
Like warriors in battle

Swords drawn, breath held
Eyes uplifted to the enemy
Riven bodies feld
Swept upon the river’s arms.

Falling to my knees
In the cold of the Anduin
My breath taken by what I have seen
Not by the water’s frigid touch.

You are gone.
My Immortal Brother

Inspired by the song ‘The Immortal’ by Evanesence

Ch. 4 - The Touch of Grief

Inspired by Linaewen's latest chapter of ‘Lords of Gondor:’

'His thumb traced the jagged edge where the Horn had been cut in two by axe or sword, and rubbed gently across the blackened silver mouthpiece. He ran the braided baldric through his hands until they began to feel numb where the leather roughened his palm.'

Gently
Ever so gently
Touching the untouchable.

Thumb
Tentative, tracing
The unbearable pain.

Fingers
Frightened, feeling
The familiar form.

Hands
Holding horror
Roughened leather.

Palms
Pulled, parted
Burning with sorrow.

Arms
Angry, awful
Needing to hold.

Eyes
Ever earnest
Seeing visions.

Heart
Heavy, hurting
Broken forever.

Ch. 5 - The King Shall Come

My life not wasted
My King’s love tasted.

My despair is healed
By King’s hand sealed

My hope is born
My King has sworn

My city lives
My King forgives

My brother cries
My King’s love ties

My father dies
My King survives

All Gondor cries
The King arrives!

Ch. 6 - Jingle Orc - A Song

I know it's not Christmas, but anytime you have Orcs cavorting about, you just have to laugh!

Dashing through the snow
In a goblin driven sleigh
Into the mines we go
Chortling all the way
Bells on cave trolls ring
Making Sting turn bright (blue)
What fun it is to ride and sing
On a balrog’s back tonight.

Oh!!!!!!!!!

Jingle Orc, Jingle Orc,
Jingle all the way.
Oh what fun it is to ride
Down a Balrog’s back today. Hey

Jingle Orc, Jingle Orc
Jingle all the way.
Oh what fun it is to ride
Down a Balrog’s back today.

Ch. 7 - A Dragon Named Smaug - A Limerick

Along came a dragon named Smaug
Who flamed every tree, branch and log
Dwarves ran in fright
Birds croaked outright
And a burglar emerged from the fog.

Ch. 8 - Faramir's March - A Poem

The drums quietly beat the time
The men rode silently forward
The people gently cried
The children tenderly threw flowers…

While the world screamed 'Nooooooo!'

Ch. 9 - Somewhere in Lothlorien - A Poem (extended movie verse)

Their backs turned to me

Like great dead tree trunks in a silent forest.

Their faces, so dear, turned away
Like flowers after a heavy rain,

Their colors hidden from view.
So they to me,

Like long-stemmed flowers
After a heavy rain,

Broken;
So too my heart at their response.

Ch. 10 - Gandalf's Lament

How does one ever say goodbye?
How many have I sent to their deaths?
I sit – alone – a solitary death knell rings in my ears.

Some believe I feel no pain
Some believe I am cold, hard
How does one fight the forces of evil
And be hard?

It is with the heart
Only the heart can battle evil
Ever hope to triumph.

Triumph - That word echoes hollow
As I sit on this stoop
In this once fair city
Knowing death stalks her sons

My eyes are open yet see nothing
My ears only hear the bell
My limbs are weak with horror

Man surprises me
There seems no rhyme nor reason
In their thoughts or their actions
I wonder and am stilled

I pull my cloak about me
My hand touches the elven ring
There is strength there - But none for me

My eyes stretch beyond this alley
My ears stretch beyond this place
Is there hope left for any?
Is there hope left for me?

Ch. 11 - Lesson Learned in Rohan

I find that I am one with Sam
As he watched the elves depart
But another scene - it ‘makes me cry’
It ever tears my heart.

Gandalf & Pippin leaving
Merry runs to follow
If only with his eyes
Blurred - he will not wallow

In the pain that breaks his heart
For evil flies by day
His friend must now depart
No other way, they say.

It breaks my heart this friendship
So deep so strong so wide
Aragorn has joined it too
He’ll not leave him high and dry.

So there upon the parapet
The two of them do stand
And watch the backs of friends most loved
As they cross Rohirric land.

I’ve friends like that myself, I know
Within this land, this hallowed place
And I would have them know for sure
That if ONE left without a trace

The loss would be profound

So do not tarry, lurk, nor hide
For strength is here and love
Do not despair – your friends are here
We wait upon the parapet - in love.

Ch. 12 - By the Valar

It should be pain
It is shock
It should be fear
It is not.

The arrow strikes
I hardly notice
My sword still sings
Battle bliss.

Another thump
What is that noise?
My knees unkindly
Hit the ground

The Hobbits stare
Stone-filled hands held in despair.
I would they had not
Walked these lands.

A last and telling
Jarring punch
That forces body
To the ground.

Our eyes they lock
There is no sound
We know that life
Has changed.

By the Valar
I had not thought
That it would come to this
The cost!

Ch. 13 - Remember Who You Are

Remember who you are
The first words heard when from the womb I came
Remember who you are
The first words heard as I stood before him in the Great Hall
Remember who you are
The first words heard as I entered the service as squire
Remember who you are
The first words heard as Captain-General
Remember who you are
The last words heard before the journey to Rivendell
Remember who you are
New voices speak louder than his
Remember who you are
Words almost lost on the Anduin
Remember who you are
Words obliterated by the screaming of the voice
Remember who you are
Words returned to me once he fled from my outstretched hands
Remember who you are
I have failed you, Father
Remember who you are
I have failed Gondor
Remember who you are
I have you failed you, my King
Remember who you are
The last words I hear… and I am released from the burden
‘Be at peace, Son of Gondor’

A/N - The thought of the burden for the eldest son of Gondor, nay, for the whole family of Stewards, has always been a source of sorrow for me. To live to the standards needed for the great daily battle against the evil of Sauron seemed too great a burden to bear. I could just imagine Denethor, not out of spite, or hatred, or whatever, knowing that this son of his was the only thing that stood between Gondor and obliteration, speaking these words to him, ‘Remember who you are,’ as a warning not to fail. I wrote this for myself too, as my father, who loved me dearly but was a perfectionist, drove me onwards. I finally had to learn that I do not have to save the world. The Stewards thought they did. And perhaps they were right. Not aware of a little Hobbit in the Shire.

Ch. 14 - Tears

Tears

Strange craft
Sleek oar
Still water
Crashing falls

Tears

Silent paddling
Sorrowful sobbing
Despondent leaving
Fellowship broken

Tears

Suddenly Sam
Calling, shouting
Running towards me
Water covering

Tears

Lost friend
Paddling furiously
Stretching hand down
Down to him

Tears

Finding handhold
Hauling in
Embracing
Smiling

Courage caught

Ch. 15 - In Fair Lothlorien

I have been here for many ages
Watching over the land and the river
The birds and the beasts.
In silence and in symphony.

My King and Queen deigned
To build their home amongst my branches.
Fair and kind, they drew strength from me
And I from them.

We have seen much, together
A forest on the east turned from golden to shade
A city before us slowly crumbling
A forest to our west bereft of its Ent wives.

And to the north, the mountains,
Smashed by the Valar,
Still hide creatures foul and dark
And harboured one beyond all evil.

That evil, spreading, touches all.
I had not seen it, in my youth.
Only merry Elves comprised my days
Their touch upon my bark brought joy.

She thinks to leave me
To return to the West.
I would bid her go, for her sake,
But my leaves will fall and not return.

My heart, my Queen, would break.

Ch. 16 - Aim High

Counterfeit Words

Aim High
The Ring can be yours
With it, all you have ever dreamt of
Will be yours
Fame, glory, victory in battle
Even…..
A crown.
Take it and all is yours
Aim High

Genuine Words

Aim High
You have made a mistake
It can be corrected
Others have need of you
Do not let them down
Hope lies in the little ones
This is your duty
Save them
Aim High

Counterfeit Words

Aim High
Words that set fire in my veins
Urge me on to do unthinkable things
But for Gondor!
Abuse one half my size?
Turn against the Fellowship?
Dishonor?
For Faramir, it whispers
For your father, it cajoles
There is no dishonor
When it is for Gondor.
I listen – I
Aim High

Genuine Words

Aim High
A warrior am I
Built for battle
Not for subterfuge
Not for shameful deeds.
No more! No more!
The Ring is gone
Its spell removed
I will avenge my deeds
The battle rages
I fight and win
Though I die
Aim High

# 17 - Battlements

I watch but no one sees.
How long have I stood here
Breeze blowing in my hair
Eyes bedazzled by Anor?

I watch and see them
Whom I love beyond endurance
Walking the Circles
Faces animated, joy-filled.

I watch and feel the loss
I think this time was meant to heal
Me of so many things
Entwined with these two.

I watch engulfed in sorrow
My brother, my captain, my king
Walks beside my brother, my heart -
Tearing me apart.

Why am I here on the battlements,
I cry to the Valar in pain and anguish?

But they hear me not just as
Those in my City see me not.

I am no longer able to defend them
Seeing all the ruin about me
I cannot lift a finger to correct
To succor nor to heal.

I am unseen
I am dead
I am gone from their thoughts
And I am devastated.

But does the City live
Though the Circles bear scars and
Wounds from the battle
Wounds such as I have felt?

My people fill Isildur’s Square
Surround a covered statue
My breath taken from me as my brother
Pulls the wrapping away.

I am not forgotten.
In that moment’s space I see
Love, honor, and forgiveness
And I am free to rest.
