The Final Parting.

Aragorn hesitated slightly before opening the chamber door, he had heeded the message to come to Rohan and had ridden quick and hard. The healers could do no more and when Aragorn saw the pale failing form with laboured breathing, he knew his skills were neither wanted or needed.  The chamber was freshened by the scent of Athelas and the end was almost near.

He opened the door and was faced by many eyes, he smiled and summoned the family into the room. He laid his hand on the King’s shoulder and squeezed gently, “It is time to say goodbye,”

Tears and sounds of women weeping filled the candle lit chamber as Elfwine threw himself to the bed and clasped the small hand in his, he kissed the fevered brow and whispered, “ Mama.....Papa is waiting for you”
