Silmarillion – Of Maeglin Against the King’s council the White Lady rode from the city. She ventured into Nan Elmoth and was ensnared by Eöl, who took her to wife. In the twilight she bore him a son, whom he later named Maeglin. As time passed, longing for Gondolin awoke in them both. They left – but were pursued and unwittingly revealed the Hidden Path. Turgon set a choice before them – to stay or die. Eöl chose death for himself and his son, but Aredhel took the poisoned dart meant for Maeglin. Eöl was cast from the city’s wall.
