Though he thinks of himself as tidy, still Frodo has never enjoyed spring cleaning. Sweat, moving things about only to move them back, smells of soap that make him sneeze almost as much as the dust.

But this is different. This will be the last spring cleaning he will share with Bilbo, for his uncle is leaving in the autumn.

And so he works without complaint, even when a pile of books slips and falls onto his toes. And he knows he will miss this, but it is not until seventeen years later that he begins to understand just how much.
