At the mo I am more than 'slightly muddled' I don't understand a word of what Sam is saying, does anyone? do americans all go around speaking like that? Author Reply: Sorry to have missed replying to this review. Just now saw it. Um. I don't think all americans go around speaking like that. I certainly hope not. But it was fun to cram as much as possible into the story and see if I could get away with it...

Hehehe! Reading what I can of the GM noms... I know I have only read a fraction of your copious works, but they are all on my list of 'authors to read'. This is positively hilarious! I am delighted the GMs brought it to my attention! Author Reply: Sheesh. I revisit this as I am in avoidance mode and find reviews left months ago, that I never saw and never answered. Hah! And so, muchly belated thanks. (Sorry about the beta we were discussing... I sort of got distracted by an old friend with a birthday request. Got any new betas?)

This is just too funny. There is nothing that will give me a jolt in an otherwise well-written hobbit story than the word "okay". It's so seemingly harmless and useful and automatic, that I have to school myself. However, being an American, I am not necessarily up on other terms. I remember how surprised I was when Marigold gently advised me not to use the word "gotten". And there are other more subtle ones: not to use "sidetracked"--no railroads in Middle-earth; don't say "backpedaled"--no bicycles either. For hobbits, no expressions like "the shoe is on the other foot" or "the other shoe dropped" and only a Brandybuck might say something about being "up the creek without a paddle"! But the stories that are chockful of slang usually can't hold my interest--unless it is humor! Then all bets are off! Author Reply: Although didn't JRRT himself say something about Bilbo "puffing on the mat like a little engine" (or some words to that effect)? Fighting insomnia and revisiting old haunts... (in case you wondered if this message got caught in a time warp).

This is some of the most hilarious story I`ve ever read! I can`t believe that it`s possible to come up with so much great things as you do! Poor hobbits, they do get it rough in this one.

Hee hee! That's hilarious...I've never thought of their not having washcloths in Middle-Earth!! ;-) This is cleverly done. ;-) Do you have any extra sedatives or anything? I'm a Legolas fan...but not an oh-my-goodness-I-love-Orli-I-must-marry-him fan.... ;-) What exactly will you be doing to him in chapter 8?!?!? ;-) Author Reply: Have some chocolate; it's the sedative of choice around here. Not only calms you down, but energizes you at the same time. Marvellous stuff. I cannot give you a glimpse of chapter 8 without spoiling, so I won't. Let's just say you've never quite seen Legolas in this light before. Thanks for reviewing!

I remember reading this somewhere - it's a good laugh. Author Reply: Thanks! Yes you did read this somewhere, and now it's undergoing a few tweaks, being dusted off, and moved to another shelf. Hope you enjoy the revisit.
