Lin!

Yeah! that Pippin didn't let the grass grow under his feet in getting handfasted to Diamond!!! Yeah!! I hope this means that Pippin's usually buoyant spirits are finally on the mend. He is eating and has asked Diamond!! Now for Merry! ;-)

On a more serious note " '...the highest quality and elegant presentation, (he's still defying the Lockholes, as you know, and likely will be for the rest of his life),' My best friend's mom was in the Japanese internment camps and when I knew her back in the 70s she always shopped at the higher end stores (Gottschalk's, Penny's, Macy's - when they came) never at K-Mart, Zody's that were of course cheaper which we frequented. Joan's family had probably the same money as we did but they NEVER shopped at K-Mart. As if to say "the highest quality and elegant presentation" that she was American which of course she was. Art and life can most definitely reflect.

Your next paragraph does that so well. Life during war or occupation so well described.

Ah yes! Reading on a few paragraphs! Yeah! The light breaks through for Merry.
Men can be so dense. I was practically sitting in my hubby's lap trying to get him to kiss me for the first time!!! LOL!

"The brightness of her smile dazzled him. 'If I'd have you?' she whispered, radiant with joy, no longer concealing her feelings for him behind cool mischief. 'Why do you think I was such a pest, following you all over Budgeford all those years ago?'"

The lengths we women have to go through sometimes! Honestly!!
Thanks!

P.S. Chapter 27 of Destiny's Child has posted. Eager to see what you think!

Thank you for reminding me that you'd posted Chapter 27. It was lovely! I left more of a review attached to the chapter, of course.

People can be so clueless. It's been rather amusing to write about clueless Merry (while figuring out how to prevent him from seeing Estella as she really is) in different stories so as not to spoil the surprise he experiences in this chapter!

I've heard/read some of George Takei's stories about his experiences in an internment camp. What a terrible facet of American history those camps were. Your best friend's mum sounds staunch and resilient.

A sense of wonder seized him and he breathed more deeply, dizzy, as he realized he'd been holding his breath. You're the great donkey, never to have seen it before, he told himself. He looked at her in the shadowy light of the stables, seeing together in one somehow, the Midge, and Twig the "boy", and Tilly the nurse, and Estella herself, a force to be reckoned with, unafraid, even, of the Thain and his influence -- giving Pip his freedom to marry Diamond, whom he loved, with no hope for her own happiness... Merry had never seen her, really seen her, paid her any mind, and yet she remained true in the face of his blindness.

I love how you wrote this- the best realization that coudl've been written. It is obvious that Estella liked him for a while since he remembered all those moments in the past adventures. I find it quite sweet.
And good detail about Estella nursing her brother back from being in the Lockholes- it is something she would've helped in, right? It makes sense.
This was one of my fave chapters because i liked how Merry realized that Estella was there all along. :*)

Suddenly, events of the past came clear to him, as sun breaking through clouds brings a meadow to sparkling brightness, and he drew a shallow breath, hearing a snort from one of the ponies, the knock of a hoof against a wall, the voices of Pansy and Merimas, a murmur followed by shared laughter.

Lovely writing.

Author Reply: Oh, thank you so much for your encouragement! I'm so glad the word-pictures and the development of their relationship over the years works. When they were children, Estella was definitely a tag-along, pesky little sister, but a lot of it had to do with her fascination for Merry rather than wanting to do everything Freddy was doing. It was so satisfying to write about Merry finally noticing her at last, after taking her for granted for so many years...!

(The nice thing about revising this very early story was the possibility of incorporating elements from other stories that shed more light on Estella's journey. It was a good feeling to finally give Estella her heart's desire at last. I'm a hopeless romantic, I think. I always want the best for people.)

Thanks again for reading and taking time to share your thoughts!

Yay! That’s better for everyone involved. Glad to see that neither lads nor lasses will be unhappy with their choices!

Author Reply: LOL, at last things are settling out the way the genealogies have them!

Thanks so much for reading and pausing to share your thoughts.

Well, it IS about time, after all, for these four to end up in the proper configurations for each! And now all the proper pieces are finally dropping into the proper alignment! Excellent! And Jewel is happier for it, too. Nicely done.

Author Reply: Yes, finally! Whew.

(Thanks!)
