Honestly, Frodo is as brave as he should be. And Legolas keeps his dignity even under these circumstances. I would like to have the hunters described in more details, but that might follow. Again, a nice break in the tension at the end: "Defeated by a mortal halfling not half his size" and: "... ordered around by a halfling." - T.

I really like this story and was so glad to see Ch. 5! I always hate to see the poor elf left hanging! :-) This was great...the men were slimy, Pip was Pip and helps rein in Merry and get the rescue operation going, Legolas is hurt, as usual, but hears an ally getting really ticked off on his behalf (I cannot wait to see what "they" will do!), and Frodo gets to boss a Prince around! Wonderful! (...and of course, another evil cliffhanger!) linda

I am enjoying this very much. I always love everything you write. I hope Gandalf and Aragorn catch up soon; I don't like those men's cruelty to poor Frodo and Legolas, and the horses, either.

Poor Legolas, being ordered around by Frodo. He should just resign himself to the fact that he's never going to win with hobbits. The part with Frodo's sling was great! I have the sneaking suspicion that if Frodo wanted to, he could just kill all of the men in their sleep with it. Morbid, that. Thanks for the great chapter!

Great chapter. I loved how easily Pippin was able to sway Merry and I loved the conversation between Frodo and Legolas. I can't wait for more.

I am glad to see another post in this story. I really like your characterizations - they are all so distinct. I can't help but feel sorry for Legolas. He must be totally out of his elements to be feeling so helpless. Great story so far!

Budgie, this passage truly shows that Legolas *is* a prince, and a truly noble person: --But his life mattered little when weighed against the fate of the world. Against the burden that this little one bore. “When I swore to you at Elrond’s Council, I meant more than just the protection of my bow. I will gladly give my life to keep you safe.”-- I love how Pippin know how to melt Merry's heart! Wonderful, wonderful story.

Wow! I am so impressed! I just love this story. Never before have I seen so much great Legolas-Frodo interaction. I love all the great dialogue and description -- everything! You sure can write. And I just love angst . . . don't let Frodo get away unscathed, now . . . (evil laughter) . . . we have to have something for Sam to do when he catches up to them. Looking forward to the next chapter!

Nasty men. I hope the rescue party doesn't take too long to get there - Legolas does not look in a good way. Your hobbits are always that bit tougher and more resistant than normal. Frodo will be a lot more dangerous than those men expect if he is forced to do something. I would like to see Legolas being ordered round by a hobbit.
