| We're getting the proper courting, I think, and loved Pippin pulling Diamond out of the barrel of candy. Ganelon has not a clue what's truly important, and Honeysuckle is missing out on a great deal of joy. Seems her husband misses the return on his lovemaking. Author Reply: Thank you! (I don’t recall any comments about the candy barrel when this chapter was first posted, and I rather liked it.) Ganelon, Gerier and Honeysuckle all, of course, have their own “issues.” | |

| Ganelon bugs me. I liked the stitching pattern, and can't wait to hear the stories from Pippin's mum. Perhaps she will tell Diamond to call Pip "Pippin" instead of "husband" all the time. :) Alayna Author Reply: Really? Ganelon bugs you? | A lovely chapter. I think it was good for Pippin to see Diamond's family in their own space. And I'm happy to see him taking some initiative in finding things that she likes to do and helping her adjust to her life in the Great Smials. How long is she going to keep calling him 'Husband' before he lets her know it's alright to call him Pippin? (Those North-Tooks really are pretentious people, aren't they - nicknames are for servants, indeed.) I'm looking forward to the next chapter. :) Author Reply: Well...Ganelon's definitely pretentious. Maybe the rest of them are just formal? Thank you for your comments. It was good for Pippin to see Diamond in her "natural habitat," so to speak, and for him to see, both literally and figuratively, "where she's coming from." Hmm: who says *Pippin's* going to tell her to stop calling him "husband"? | |

| Please, please, PLEASE get Diamond to call Pippin by his name. He must be getting annoyed by now (I certainly am). What a stuffy family. No wonder Diamond is prim and proper to the point of being ridiculous. Hope those books help her ;) Author Reply: Well, I didn't exactly think ending up with your petticoats in the air and your rear end in a barrel was exactly prim and proper, but OK... I'm not done addressing the names, but it's dangerous to assume that just because something bothers you, it bothers someone else. There are lots of marriages out there where the spouses don't call each other by name, but "honey" or something like that, even not counting all the ones where, after the kids come, they end up calling each other "Mom" and "Dad" forever. | |

| Okay, this chapter didn't frustrate me as the last ones :P Seeing Diamond's family at home really helps you see why she is the way she is. They all need to lighten up a bit! Though I doubt that'll happen since how they are is how they live. I observed (with the 'secret' touching of the hands) that Diamond's parents don't even show physical affection for each other in plain view. It's good to see that Pip and Diamond are really becoming comfort with each other and forming a real friendship. You can see the love Pip has for her is building. He's such a gentlehobbit too :) Maybe when Diamond finally gets to the part in the 'helpful' book she's been reading, it'll dawn on her what she needs to do! Pip will be more than pleased. It was heartening to see them have a conversation, though it was quite short. It seems the casualness of the Great Smials is wearing off on her, yay! There's one thing I beg of you. Please have Diamond calling Pippin by his name! I know she was brought up not too, but it has to happen! Anyroad, I'm not enjoying this story...just kidding ;) I'm enjoying far too much. I await biting my fingernails for the next chapter. -Nina Author Reply: Hmm. The "squeezing their hands together fondly in an old habit" wasn't meant to be secretive -- it's an old habit, so obviously the kids have seen it before. Nobody was paying that close of attention to Gerin and Honeysuckle at the moment because they were busy with other things --- Diamond was watching Pippin. ;) And her mom holds Diamond's hands, and her dad hugs her, when Pippin isn't around, so maybe, like he thinks, it's just him that's making them act more formal than usual -- although they are, of course, different from the Tooks of Great Smials, as every family is different from each other. Yes, the Great Smials is wearing off on Diamond. Actually, she was already being more friendly with the servants (taking Geranium's hand in thanks) and saying "aye" instead of "yes" (after she plays an improved game of draughts) as far back as Chap. 5. She just didn't get any credit for it because it wasn't as noticeable that she'd changed until it was set off against a background where people didn't just expect her to act that way. Pip and Diamond actually had four conversations in this chapter: when he said they were going on vacation, when she was drawing his bath, when they woke up and she asked what he was doing, and at night when he was sitting by the window. And you're right that they're forming a friendship -- he feels a bit awkward and out of place in this chapter (hmm. wonder who that reminds you of?), and that helps him to understand her better, as does seeing her in the North Farthing. And, yes, he is such a gentlehobbit! (I like him that way, LOL.) The names bit was partially addressed in this chapter, but still keep watching.:) And try not to bite your fingernails, LOL, you must have picked that up from MovieFrodo. | |

| Somebody has GOT to tell this gal what she's been missing. And I want to be a fly on THAT wall... LOL! Lovely chapter! As always. You might want to check the formatting of the end of it - there are some odd characters there and I wonder if perhaps part of the chapter didn't get cut off. I'd hate to miss any! Author Reply: Thank you! Not to worry about the end of the chapter -- it's supposed to end with "Ask her to tell you stories of her lad." I do always check that the end is there in chapter preview mode before posting. Unfortunately, the weird characters, I think, have something to do with the length of the chapter -- they've just started showing up on the last two -- and edit mode *won't* let me get rid of them! Aargh! | |

| O yes, finally I see some improvement in their relationship. The curls of her hair, him thinking not to force himself on her and wait some more, the stiching pattern, Diamond's laughter at her father's shop... not yet calling him in his name, though, but I think they are not strangers to each other anymore. I am expecting them making a real friendship before long, with some baring their souls, at least on Pippin's part. Although you do this story in so small steps, that I am dying and practically aching of curiosity as I want to read further! Author Reply: No, they are not strangers anymore...and did you catch what Diamond's parents, who look at each other fondly, call each other? :) Please do not die of curiosity! I would hate to lose such a loyal reader. The story will probably get moving faster eventually. And I am trying to update at least once a week -- while I do know the basics of what happens, I haven't actually written beyond the posted point yet. | |
