Reading this one again has reminded me how much I have enjoyed all of your cat stories, since I first discovered you on HASA. Thank you for your work! Author Reply: And my kitties thank you for your kind words. ^_^ Werecat

Having just read your story about the sparrow and remembering you were the one that wrote the Haikus about Radagast that I liked so much, I decided to look at some of your other works, because I do love stories with animals in them. This one is great too--had me absolutely bawling for the poor woman and her children. I love the way you portray the wizards and the cat king. Indeed, I'm sure that all species have a king and most certainly cats. I love the dialogue between the cat and Radagast--their reasonings and the final conclusion. And the idea of athlelas in any king's hands. Wonderful. Author Reply: Hi again, Elliska. Thank you, THANK YOU, for reviewing this. I worked hard on it and it has some very personal background in it, so it's one of my personal favorites. Especially when it comes to the old woman and her family; this part was written over and over again to make it come to life. As for the cat king; I lve with his descendants here, so his POV came rather natural. ;) Thanks again, Werecat

That was wonderful, Werecat!! I love that a King, ANY king, could bring life with athelas.... :-) Such a superb touch! Thank you for this delightful tale! Author Reply: Thank you, JastaElf! I'm glad you liked it, although I fear that by now I've made Tolkien spin in his grave, the ailurophobe that he was. Thanks again for reading and your kind words. Werecat

Oh, that's lovely! I knew that had to be Gandalf and Radagast even without the translation - well done! A charming and compelling story (but then, what else is new?) ;) Ariel Author Reply: Thanks, Ariel! I'm glad you liked it. ~Werecat

"The old toy slipped from her fingers as she dragged her feet on the dusty wooden floor to the back of the house. Despite the chill of the night, droplets of cold sweat crowned her brow as Hîthwen leaned against the door. The girl’s hand clutched her dress desperately, as she gazed on the writhing body on the old straw mattress." I realize that that passage isn't the most central to the story, but it shows what so impressed me about it. You make the characters very physical. Their emotions are shown, not told. And I do like the idea of the king of cats who owes men nothing. That's very catlike. "The owl struggled to keep a chuckle down her throat. She could not recall having so much fun ever since that accursed fox from the nearby hill fell in the river while chasing a duck." That line made me hoot (and not like an owl!). Author Reply: Thank you, THANK YOU for your lovely review, Daw. You make the characters very physical. Their emotions are shown, not told. Thanks. I don't think anyone else has ever commented on this. I try hard to work with showing and not telling and I'm SO happy someone finally noticed. And I do like the idea of the king of cats who owes men nothing. I swear that several of his descendants live here with me. *sigh* That line made me hoot (and not like an owl!). Heh, thanks! I *do* enjoy writing from an animal's POV, in case it wasn't already clear. Thanks again for reading, Werecat

How wonderful to see this up! I love the healing paws of the cat-King chasing the black breath away. I am also amused at the cats and owls exchanging insults, and the idea of all of this becoming 'Old Wives Tales' - which reminds me of what Celeborn said to the fellowship But do not despise the lore that has come down from distant years; for oft it may chance that old wives keep in memory word of things that once were needful for the wise to know. Thank you so much for gifting this to me and my kitties! I will read it to them tonight :D Author Reply: Thank you, Nilmandra, for your lovely review. Did the cats like it, BTW? I could go on for pages writing cats and birds exchanging insults, since I watch it happen all the time at home. But this would turn wildly AU, I fear... Thanks again for reading, Werecat
