| Hullo, Elvenesse-- So maybe Denethor even resents that Faramir has gifts rightfully belonging to the older son? Poor Faramir! At least where Denethor is concerned, he really can't win... Branwyn Author Reply: Ugh, I have no idea of what to think of Denethor, I don't hate him, but by the time of RotK he's not very nice. I think the problems with Faramir started as he grew older - Denethor and Faramir were just too much alike and Finduilas wasn't there to mediate. Then the palantír just made things worse. | |

Elvenesse, I loved My sons, different but so alike. The younger has the elder’s gifts. I read it to mean (perhaps incorrectly, LOL) that Denethor thinks that Faramir's virtues--his insight into human nature and his love of learning--would be more useful to the future Steward than Boromir's boldness and skill at arms. Very nice! Branwyn Author Reply: Thank you for the review! You're interpretation is the same as mine - which is always good. Denethor can recognise that Faramir has virtues, but he thinks they would be more useful to Boromir (but not necessarily more than Boromir's own). | |
