Aww... what a lovely little tale - and yet it is sad somehow. But then... today everything I read is sad in some way :p I can’t believe you haven’t already gone looking for an excuse to talk to that lovely lass you were mooning over when you were meant to be watching the show. *LOL* Author Reply: Thank you, Lily! I'm very fond of this story, and I'm so glad you liked it too! I wanted Pip to have a legacy of his friendship with Gandalf to enjoy on his coming of age, even though Frodo and Gandalf couldn't be there with him, so I agree, it is sad... though hopefully bittersweet :)

*sniff* Very nice! I like the idea that there was a box of fireworks in the Smials and that they applied so much to Pippin and his travels! I would have liked to hear how they got there though and why they hadn't been remembered or found before, but maybe that is part of the story, not knowing all the details. It was excellent, thank you! Author Reply: Thanks very much! I was originally going to write this from the point when Pippin got the idea to go looking for fireworks, but decided it worked better this way in the end. I don't know if I read it somewhere or imagined it, but I think the last fireworks seen in the Shire before Bilbo's party would have been in honour of the Old Took, seeing as he would have been alive the last time anyone saw any. So it seems possible that if some of them had ended up in the Old Took's room in the Smials, which was left untouched for a century, then they would have been totally forgotten about unless someone thought to look. I don't think Pippin would have thought to look before that because there was always a chance (until Gandalf went over the sea) that he would get to see more of his fireworks. I also think that with Frodo, Gandalf and Bilbo gone, his coming of age might have made him feel particularly nostalgic about that party and wish there was a way he could recreate it somehow. Sorry this has turned into an essay! I think that was probably more detail than you bargained for... LOL. Thanks again for commenting, I'm glad you liked the story. :)

i love this! That last firework gave it all an air of magic. I think Gandalf knew. I also liked Pippin and Diamond sharing sparklers. Great story! Author Reply: Thanks! I think Gandalf knew too :) Glad you enjoyed it!

Awww! How splendid--a legacy of fireworks from Gandalf. I, too, believe he had a soft spot in his heart for the Tooks. I'm a sucker for fireworks, so I enjoyed that bit in addition to everything else. :-) Pippinfan Author Reply: Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it. I wrote it because it's Guy Fawkes Night here in the UK and I'm a sucker for fireworks too. I have such a soft spot for Gandalf and Pippin that I love to think that Pippin was left with a legacy of their friendship after he sailed away, whether snippets of wisdom, fond memories or unearthed fireworks. :-)
