Wonderfully evocative, Forodwaith. It reminded me in a way of the old couple in the movie Titanic who do not even try to find the boats - only here there's a really nice element of guilt, and of doubt: that line "what - if anything - lay beyond the wave." I wouldn't mind seeing more from these two, but even as it stands, it's an unsettling vignette that leaves me thinking. Which is of course just what I like best. :^) |

Chilling and evocative. And so very sad. At least they perished together, holding each other until the last moment. There were probably hundreds, thousands of innocents who didn't get out; and this drabble brings them to life. |
