| Wonderful, well-written, thought-provoking piece! Tolkien was always quick to point out that LotR was not an allegorical work, unlike his friend C.S. Lewis' THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. But you are so right, the thread of faith that was Tolkien's is woven into all his stories, if one is only prepared or willing to look for it. | What a fascinating essay! I really hadn't connected these two trains of thought, but you've shown quite clearly the influence Tolkien's faith had on his work,. especially in the use of the Christ figure symbolism. It will make a more intriguing read *next* time I read through the story (and of course there will be a next time - your description of the Joy and Desire we feel in reading these stories was right on the mark).
