Nice! I really like your Thranduil...

Author Reply: Thank you - I rather like him myself!

I'm sure Thranduil's first reaction was shock and anger when he realised the deadly role Legolas had taken - what parent wouldn't think that?

I thought I'd reviewed this one before, but perhaps not.

A wonderful examination of Thranduil's fear for his son, who may well not return from such a journey as he's undertaken.

Author Reply: Poor Thranduil - he must have had very little hope that Legolas would return to him. You can understand his initial anger.

I read an almost frantic fear for Legolas in Thranduil's angry words. He has just learned about the quest very much after the fact, and now he has no recourse. Also, WE know that Legolas did not go to Mordor, but at this point Thranduil believes he will. I think his response here is very realistic and given how long he has to wait to learn any more, it is heartbreaking. ~TF

Author Reply: I think this was a terrible moment for Thranduil. He'd sent his son off to deliver a message, and all he got back was a letter. In my universe, Thranduil has no family other than Legolas - and now it seems he will lose him as well.

Thranduil sounds so confused, hurt, and angry. You do a good job of catching that mix of emotions, Jay. He sees this as a betrayal made all the worse by it's inexplicability. That's a lot to convey in 100 words words. Good job on doing so!

Author Reply: Poor Thranduil - the news must have come as a shock. I think his initial anger at Elrond is natural, and of course he is so afraid he will never see Legolas again.

Nice job on this, Jay. You can really see the mix of feelings, and I like the plaintive comment about the twins.

Author Reply: Poor Thranduil - he's angry, fearful, and worried, and a little bitter at Elrond. Most of all, of course, he's scared he won't see Legolas again :(

The point about Elrond finding his own sons too dear to send strikes me as particularly poignant. Somehow it just captures a father's emotions perfectly, and we glimpse the deep pain and fear beneath the anger. Nicely done.

Author Reply: Thank you for that - yes, he's angry, but only because he's so worried. Thranduil is bound to wonder why Elrond didn't send his sons :(

Beautiful and heartrending. :-D I enjoyed it very much (of course, you know I'm a sucker for Thranduil. ;-))

Author Reply: I hope Thranduil's wrath was understandable here - it must have been a shock to find his son had been picked to go on what seemed to be a suicide mission. If it was me, I'd want to know why Elrond didn't send the twins!

'Do you think to find glory there?' That seems a bit harsh - he knows him better than that!

'no heroic sacrifice in certain death' - echoes of Oropher?

Don't blame him for being angry, though. Not the kind of thing you want to hear about your son.

Author Reply: Yes, of course he knows his son better - but he's just had a shock, and wonders why the heck Legolas agreed to this. He's angry too, with both Legolas and Elrond.

Hey Jay.

I'm taking a guess here ((but not a wild stab in the dark)) and am guessing that the letter is about Legolas and is addressed to Thranduil. About the Quest of the Ring. Even if its not, its still a brilliant drabble. I really like it. Toodles and ta me darlin'.
Keep on typing the honey

Author Reply: Yes, it's a letter Legolas wrote to his father. Poor Thranduil - it must have come as a shock to him :(

Glad you like this!!

Yes, it's hard to imagine that this would not be Thranduil's immediate reaction to seeing a letter from Rivendell and Legolas. I bet the first thing he thought was why not the twins or Glorfindel. This is a great 'wrath' entry.

Author Reply: I think he would have been angry at both Legolas and Elrond initially, but that would quickly turn to worry. Poor Thranduil :(
