Omigod, someone who actually knows how to use "harebrained" correctly. Give me a minute to recover. And so Radagast is helping Malawen in the same way he helped Frodo, but teaching her to heal others and so heal herself. Good. I liked the descriptions of Canohando's quiet amusement at the hobbits in the pub. Actually I liked the descriptions of hobbit life in general. They are amazingly brave, just as Gandalf knew. Loved the "Awake! Fear! etc" stuff from the books. It's so much fun to recognize stuff like that. Canohando is kind of scary in his Orc-ness, but he's like Faramir, who knew that battle was sometimes needed. Author Reply: Good, I'm glad the hobbit scene is developing okay - I've been out of the Shire for a long time! (It's really nice to be back.) I think Canohando scares himself sometimes. He'd be so glad to NOT be an Orc anymore, but the best he can manage is to be an Orc who refuses to give in to the Dark... he can't see what a miraculous creature that makes him... jo

Wow, this just keeps getting better and better! Glad you killed off the orcish Elf with the big plans--my heart sank when I thought perhaps Canohando would have to miss the boat to stay and stop him. I really want to see his impression of Valinor, and see if the Valar can undo what Morgoth did. And what an impression of polio. You continue to amaze me. I'll be posting on CTF when my baby Elessar is born--or email me privately. Smiles, Tracey Author Reply: It seems to me that if the Valar could really "undo what Morgoth did," they would (or certainly should!) have done it a long time before. Frodo, little and humble, did about as much as anyone but Eru Himself could do, I think. For Canohando battles habit and upbringing now, not his intrinsic nature: whereas Itaril, as you noticed, has become Orkish in his heart, in spite of his fine appearance. So baby Elessar is on the way? How exciting! I rarely ever get on CTF anymore, so please do e-mail me privately when you have a breather after he arrives! So glad you're enjoying this, as it gets longer and longer (it was supposed to be *short*, you know, maybe 9 or 10 chapters...) jo, who doesn't know when to shut up
