| Well...it's here. The spotted-fever, I mean. ;-) Looking at the ramifications for having it, I can see how poor Diamond most likely passed on early in life. The spotted fever easily sets the stage for it. At least, that is what I gleaned from JRRT having Pippin and Merry leaving the Shire for good in their later years. If Pippin is 92 at that time, and (lol, using Diamond's *correct* age), she passes on at 86/87--and thats quite young for a hobbit. Even 92 is much too soon. Pippinfan Author Reply: Yes, she was relatively young according to the family tree. There are a few others who passed on younger than normal for hobbits, such as Merimac and Saradoc and Bilbo's father Bungo and his mother Belladonna, none of whom reached what appears to be the hobbit average of 99-100. I will admit, I'd not thought of that particular side effect of "spotted fever" affecting Diamond, but I do recall coming across it in my research of measles. | |

| I loved that Primrose put Rosamunda in her place quite firmly, and the turned around and did the same to Estella for speaking disrespectfully of her mother. Diamond seems to be handling the situation very competently. She was smart to talk with Eglantine before going in to see the patient. Thanks for another lovely chapter. :) Author Reply: Well, Primrose is the most senior of the female cousins, and I would bet that she wields that authority with aplomb. Rosamunda did deserve to be dressed down, but Primrose was not going to allow impertinence from a young one to go unrebuked. Diamond knows these things, having been taught very well. She's a little apprehensive having to put them into practice on her own for the first time, but she is remembering her professional protocols. | |

| Oh no! Diamond is bound to catch it. Then Pippin can nurse her . . . he won't have any scruples about flirting with his patients. Author Reply: Well, there's a little hitch in that scenario: his broken leg! But yes, you can pretty much count on Diamond's catching it. | |

| Oh, my! Poor Diamond is really in for it! And she hasn't had it before so there is I'm sure a great chance of her getting it in this story. I'm glad she went to Eglantine, I'm sure she will be sensible and will most certainly be able to help out. The bit with Rosamunda and Primrose was priceless! It was great that she was able to shut her up, but that she used the same tactics on Estella was amusing as well. Merry and Pippin trying carefully not to laugh was great! I'm looking forward to more! Hope it is soon! Author Reply: Oh, you can pretty much count on her getting spotted fever in this story! Of course, it was the proper thing to go right to the Mistress of the Smials--this won't be the first outbreak Eglantine's had to deal with. Primrose takes full advantage of the fact that she is the eldest female in the Took family--she enjoys using her authority to puncture Rosamunda's pretensions, but she is not going to allow Estella to get away with dissing her mother, either! Merry and Pippin are smart lads--they know what would have happened if they opened their mouths. It is going to be very soon. | |

Looking forward to more :) Author Reply: Diamond is far more in her own element, even when overwhelmed with work, as a healer, than she is when it comes to romance.
