| Thanks for directing me in here again--i loved this fic the first time i read it and i love reading it again :) I love Sam comfort! So very much--and i like the "h" detail you put in too. ;) Poor Sam--so glad everyone is there to help him! =) and love how he feels like it's a hassel to bring in a healer---so very much Sam. :) Author Reply: Yes, even at such a young age, Sam would be worrying about putting Bilbo to too much trouble, wouldn't he! *grin* I'm so glad you found the story worth re-visiting--that's nice to know! | Poor Sam! He shouldn't have been using a knife to dig with, but ouch, that hurts! It's always good to see the relationship between Sam and Merry. Typical of Merry to think it was his fault because he had given Sam the knife. Does Merry think *everything* is his fault? It must be very difficult for Sam and the Gaffer to allow the gentlehobbits to take care of Sam, much less to accept that Bilbo is going to pay for the healer. It just does not seem *proper* to them. I don't think they really understand how fondly Bilbo and the cousins think of them. The Gaffer is a good father - he knows when it is time to reprimand and when no lecture is necessary. Author Reply: Yes, poor dear. He called himself lazy, but really, he was just too impatient to get on with the job. He's still pretty young in this, and still learning. And yes, I am quite sure it hurt. *ow* Pretty much, if it involves something happening to people he thinks he should take care of. And apparently Sam falls into that category as well, though I'm sure Sam might be surprised to realize that. But Merry does not give friendship or loyalty easily, so once he does, he's pretty committed to it. Well, really, in this case Bilbo was very much in the right. Nowadays worker's comp would take care of someone injured on the job, but in a society like the Shire, a good employer would still pay for the healer. And even though the Gaffer really does know this, he's still rather proud when it comes to things like this, and does not like to admit that. And of course, he does know that Mr. Bilbo is fond of him and his family, but he still sees it only in an employer/employee sort of relationship. Yes, I think he was a good father. He was a little tough on Sam, with the edge of his tongue a lot of times, but he also knew that in this case, his lad had learned his lesson all too well. | |

| I love Sam. ^^ This was a good story--quite enjoyable. :) I really liked how the Gaffer knew what had happened without being told--Sam needs to use the right tool for the job. ^^ Author Reply: Yes, well, Sam is still young and learning in this story. He learned this lesson the hard way, but at least it got him a lot of TLC. *grin* | |

| Oh, beautiful. I must read through all these fics. What a lovely range of topics . . . and you sure can write! Thanks for all your hard work! I'll send more reviews as I work through these . . . please, write more! And keep Frodo front and center, and I'll love you forever! Author Reply: What a lovely compliment! I suppose it is hard work, but it's work I enjoy, so it doesn't feel that way. Well, Frodo's not necessarily in every fic I write, but he's usually in there somewhere--I'm not a one-hobbit person: my fascination is with the relationships of the four hobbits, and how they interact with one another and with their friends. But I've a few where Frodo is definitely the star. | |

| The Gaffer disagreeing with Bilbo? Now that would be interesting. :) *hint, hint* Sam definitely learned his lesson about being lazy and not using the appropriate tools. He probably feels worse about the two weeks off work than he does about the cut itself. Author Reply: *whistles...rolls eyes...nudges bunny away with toe...looks out of corner of eye...* I'm sure he does. He knows the Gaffer will be having to work alone without his help, which is really going to make him feel bad. And I'm with Merry--I don't think Sam truly has a lazy bone in his body. It was probably more impatience, really, than laziness, that made him use the tool he had to hand rather than fetch the appropriate one. But trust him to put the worst interpretation on his motives. | |
