Wow - though Tolkien definitely states that the Ring called to all the Fellowship IMHO - it is decidedly tempting Legolas - and with good reasons. Author Reply: It was interesting to think how the Ring would tempt each person, and how it would twist strengths like love and loyalty to evil. I've also written a longer story where the Ring tries to seduce Elrohir just before the Fellowship leaves Rivendell.

And I can certainly see the Ring using just these arguments against Legolas's resistance. Traveling through the wild with It by his side and to keep that temptation under control must have been as difficult for him as for Aragorn. Author Reply: I'd forgotten about this drabble when I wrote 'A Lesser Treason', but it covers a lot of the same areas. I think many characters would have been tempted.

Good one, Jay. The best part was how the Ring used Legolas's attempt to defend himself from its lure as the key to reaching inside Legolas's darker side. To banish its malice, I think of my home; the trees green and growing. Legolas thinks that the memory of his home will be his strength. Yet, it is his despair over his damaged home that gives the Ring the way to tempt him. Very astute of you. :) Author Reply: I think Legolas's love for his home is both his strength and his weakness - and the ring exploits that, and also breeds a slight resentment over Thranduil's lack of an Elven ring.

wow. in just a few words you created a picture i hadn't imagined. it worked well in this format, b/c the "seduction" happened before i could anticipate it. it just made so much sense: why didn't his father have a ring? wouldn't it help... that slippery slope seems so unavoidable, this is perfectly beleivable. and i hadn't ever thought of legolas as tempted by the ring at all before this. well done! monica Author Reply: I think thoughts of what he could do with the ring must have crossed his mind at least once, even if only briefly - especially after seeing the protection and tranquillity in Imladris and Lórien. Thanks for the review!

Excellent drabble, Jay. I stubbornly hold to the believe that Legolas and Celeborn (and Haldir, for that matter) were not tempted by the ring, but you have captured his thoughts well had he been. Author Reply: I think he was tempted - the ring had two months to work on him and the rest of the Fellowship - but he resisted, like Galadriel did. That's the important part.

You know he thought it. Even if only once. Especially in Moria when everything was so dark. Good job. Author Reply: Thanks. I don't think Legolas would be tempted for anything for himself, but if he could heal Mirkwood - who knows?

Wow...this is very unique and unexpected. Legolas tempted by the ring! Would you expand on this story? Author Reply: No more plot bunnies, please! I already have three stories I'm trying to finish. I think everyone is vulnerable to temptation; the ring's power is that it uses the goodness in people and corrupts it. I think Legolas would love to be able to make his home clean again. Thanks for reviewing!

Very nice. We don't often see Legolas tempted. It's fun, and a little frightening, to see that possibility. Author Reply: It was difficult to think of what would tempt Legolas to the dark side. I decided it could only be the thought of removing the shadow from his home. Thanks for the review!

The Ring is so smart (and so are you for figuring this out). Of course, Legolas would be constantly troubled by Mirkwood's vulnerability (and the unfairness of Thranduil's lack of a ring of power). The opportunity to guarantee Mirkwood's safety would be an enormous temptation for him. Good idea! Author Reply: Thanks! I can't see Legolas being tempted by anything less than protecting his home - and the ring would make it seem right to crush orcs, spiders, wolves, and any men or dwarves who got in their way.

I like it, Jay. Surely that was the temptation Legolas faced. Author Reply: I think he would give much to restore Mirkwood to Greenwood the Great. I assume that Legolas and Thranduil knew where the Elven rings were, and the One could use that to cause resentment.
