Just thought to let you know I was reading through this compelling tale - though I am hard pressed not to savor it slowly. I've copied it into my PDA, as a word document, in order that I may throughly enjoy the story and read it over my lunches or when my job has me waiting on someone else. You've provided me with something more delicious than my sandwich to look forward to. BTW, I love the black haired Legolas! Perfect. I get tired of movie induced, cookie cutter descriptions. My favorite Frodo fic describes him with brown eyes in stark defiance of the films, though I must confess to being rather captivated by that particular contribution Mr. Wood made to the character. Reading on. Author Reply: Alas, I had always, always from reading LOTR from the first seen Legolas as golden haired, which I am certain came from the text somewhere. It is his brother Tharen who labors before the Inn of the King's Head, and who has raven hair. Author Reply: BTW, one of my blind friends downloaded it into her Braille Note so she can read it at her leisure using a braille readout. Glad you have been able to do similarly with your PDA. I've never thought to try downloading books to mine, which is rather elderly at this point. Don't know if it handles Word documents, actually. Will have to try it. Glad you are enjoying it.

Forgot to say that I thought that one of Ruvemir's informants would see his drawing of Strider and tell him who it was. I see that you're prolonging the discovery, however . . . *rubs hands in glee* Author Reply: He's soon to find out. Thanks.

I'm wallowing in your glorious hidden!king fic (e.g., Arthur, Henry V, Richard the Lionhearted in Robin Hood, but best of all Aragorn). Fervent thanks for your frequent updates! Amy

I do like the way Ruvemir is doing his research - and the way he went cold when eventually someone mentioned the feet. So often people spend ages telling you what they think is important and never consider mentioning what they think is general knowledge. Hairy naked tootsies is a 'secret de polichinelle' - everyone knows it so nobody says. He must catch on soon about the Dunedain who knows everything the King knows, surely. I can see him not picking up the Thorongil connection, because it is just too unlikely, but Aragorn, Strider, Dunedain, well-dressed, too busy with embassies, determined to hide his face - the clues are there. Author Reply: Yes, he's learning about Hobbit physiology slowly, and is glad he's not hurrying into things too much. As for Strider's real identity, he's figuring out this is a Northern Dunedain; but who really expects the King to be sitting around on blocks of stone wearing a stained northern Ranger's cloak? I don't think he wants to really know yet--rather think he's enjoying the mystery as much as Aragorn is. He knows there's a King Elessar now; but whether or not Aragorn's birth name has been widely broadcast is another matter.

Another great chapter, and another clue with Gimli dropping Aragorn's name. I would love to have tea and seed cakes at the inn. Wonder what a seed cake is, like poopy seed cake. Where is a hobbit with a cookbook when you want one. I also wonder what is behind the white fence in the field. Author Reply: Think back to the aftermath of the Battle of the Pelennor in the book, and you'll know what the bare patch and the hillock are. I know I tend to imagine poppyseed muffins when I think of seedcake.

Oh this just gets better and better. I love the way the descriptions by the various people of the events are all just a little *off* from one another, so that we realize the folk of Minas Tirith really did not *know* much about the hobbits. I also liked the incident with Frodo and the cook's boy--I could just see that happening: Frodo would certainly feel confident enough to speak up about something like that! The descriptions of Pippin were also wonderful--I wonder now who he's going to meet to describe Merry and Sam, and if there is any chance any of them will be back to the City before Ruvemir begins the work? Author Reply: Oh, the King has his own plans for Ruvemir.
