Guard of the Citadel  by Saoirse 4 Review(s)

Just wonderfully... A great outpour of emoutions that was perfect... The tree itself represented a dark time as it is dead, and almost as if it is alive yet not...Pippin is stirred with defeat and loss of those not with him... He is battling a battle within...
He finds that the tree dosen't really represent death, but of hope what could be if you are strong enough to grasp onto it, hope that the future isn't as glum as you bekieve...
that for those you love you can fight for it....

A very well writting story, well done... Keep up the writing...

Author Reply: Thank you v. v. much.

I have always felt that Pippin, although sincere in his pledge to Denethor would feel awkward and out-of-place being called a Guard when compared to the men of great deeds and war. The White Tree just was representative to him of many things, him being in such a fragile state then... but in the end he comes to realize that although bad things are happening, if they all do not cling to hope (however false it may be) that the good will never prevail be given a chance at all (however small) And that for his friends and those he loves... and all that have not been thrust into such a terrible time, he must try and be strong.

Thank you for reading this!

Beautifully written and a wonderful take from Pippin's point of view.

Author Reply: Thank you, I am very glad you enjoyed it, I have always felt there must have been so much turmoil in Pippin at that time, more than any other time. For he comes to realize then just how grand and important and far-reaching and devastating the whole situation really is -- both terrifying him and making him grow.

A lovely train of thought, taking into account both Pippin's youth and his growing maturity. Very nicely done:)

Author Reply: Thank you so much for reviewing! I am very grateful that you have read this. Yes, I have always thought that Pippin must have been pulled desperately both ways during this time:

First the smothered child still inside of him longing for a closing and peace that was so unlikely, wanting to be safe in the arms of his loved ones who would normally make things better for him and tell him all would be alright.

And then torn in the other direction by the need to accept the fact that he was indeed alone, and needed to take care of himself if he ever wanted to see those he loved again. He needed to accept and realize his situation and the direness that came with it, so making him step away from the child inside of him, although it was still frightened someplace deep in his heart, making him scared.

But the maturing part of him knows that in order for those who are stil safe (back in his home... in other places) to never have to be so torn, he would have to try his hardest to step up and do whatever it was he could.

Thank you again for reading this!

Sad and beautiful. I am very glad that Pippin won his fight over his fear.
