Cloud and Shade  by Citrine 5 Review(s)

I don't know how I've missed seeing this sooner, but this was wonderful--so very evocative and lyrical! The mood was just right, hovering on the edge of light and dark--Pippin's dream, Frodo's reluctance to make a promise--just beautiful.

Author Reply: Aw shucks. It's been out for a long while and I didn't exactly crow about it, so it was easy to miss. (Good thing I'm not in showbiz-I stink at self-promotion;o)I actually kind of went 'pffft' when I finished this, since the foreshadowing took over the story and ran away with it a bit more than I intended, but you're sweet to say such nice things. Thanks:o)

"Storm's on the way, Frodo thought, glancing up at the clouds. All the green grass bent over suddenly with the freshening breeze, rippling and turning silver under the sun, like the sea."

Oh, Citrine, how haunting! It sent chills down my back, truly! Lovely, lovely work. You have captured Tolkien's art of forewarning flawlessly.

Truly beautiful and breathtaking!

interesting look into Pippin's character. Nice bit of foreboding there.

This is an excellent story, and I'm so very glad that I read it. I loved it all, from the perfectly described environments, to the sweet interaction between the hobbits, intersperced with absolutely delightful humor. I believe that I've enjoyed your work in the past, and I'll certainly be on the lookout for more of it. In the meantime, thanks very much for a wonderful reading experience.

This is just beautiful. Sweet and lovely, but with an underlying hint of sadness. Very well done Frodo and Pippin. Thanks for writing,

Esamen
