I do apologize for not keeping up with the original telling of this wonderful tale; I had difficulties in getting internet time at my sister's house. Now I'm in my own place and am back to finish it. :-) Spellbound is just as brilliant and beautifully written as when I first started to read it back in Afteryule. *I'm* Spellbound by this most clever "filler" of hobbit-tales written in the spirit of JRR Tolkien...and onward I go! I like your evil, creepy wight. He is clearly drawn to the power that Frodo carries and is able to ensnare the hobbits all too easily. Gandalf knew how dangerous this was when he heard of it - what if that wight had taken the Ring? Would it be just a trinket? Terrible thoughts of the waking dead rising to terrorize this part of Middle-earth, or the wight handing it over to the Witch-King are filling my mind!

Oh, this is so exciting and scary and viivd! I can almost feel the chill here I sit safe and warm. Excellent, Shirebound! Off to the next chapter!

How wonderful and original to think that the hobbits were deliberately trapped by the barrow-wights! Your description of the wight's use of fog to separate and confuse the hobbits was terrifying; you capture their cold-bloodedness frighteningly well. And to see the to-be Ring-bearer from a wight's view was amazing. This single chapter answers several questions that most of us never thought to ask. I'm looking forward eagerly to more.

*shivers* How did you get the Wight's mind so chillingly well? How did you perceive his malicious devices in such detail? The way you describe the Wight shaping and molding the fog is frighteningly fascinating. It's getting more and more spooky here. But the memory ("I followed my nose...") made me smile. Hobbits! What would we do without them! :)

Interesting. I can't remember ever having read a story concerning the Barrow-wights - and I used to read a lot. Looking forward for more.

And the plot thickens, along with the fog… I especially like the parts from the wight’s POV—you’ve actually managed to give it a personality! Nice how it senses Frodo’s courage and leadership: “Bearers of Power were not cowards, and could be most formidable in their will and strength.” It doesn’t know the half of it yet, does it?

Oooh, Shirebound... You're one of my favorite authors, and once again, you don't disappoint! I can't wait for the next installment! Thanks for a scary, creepy, (and once again,)thrilling story. Jeodo Brandybuck

This is fascinating! You certainly have me spellbound, wondering what this wright has in store for our hobbits, and why it didn't bind Frodo in sleep. That's some very clever fog, to absorb and displace sound like that. :)

This is just as powerful and creepy as the first chapter, and goes a long way to explaining how the hobbits were trapped. I had always thought it must be more than merely fog and disorientation, but the way you describe it...*shiver*.
