I'm sure I've reviewed this chapter before, but it always brings a smile to my face.

The King chuckled. 'Probably watched over them the whole night, as well, to make sure none of those scuffles and snuffles became real enough to menace them.' Pippin's glance sharpened. 'Strider!' he said accusingly. 'You?' The King laughed. 'It could have been,' he admitted. 'But I'm not the only Ranger who ran across hobbits astray in the wilds.' He smiled at Pippin. 'And for such a quiet, stay-at-home people as yours, I am astounded at how many young hobbits I found myself guarding, all unawares, over the years.' Pippin shook his head in wonder. 'And we've never known...' _________________________________________ I love that passage every time I read this story (I think I'm on my fourth or fifth re-read of it). Author Reply: Goodness, would you believe that this review never hit my email box? I just now saw it! Sorry for the belated reply. What a nice surprise to run across, on my way to the pillow!

Ah, we have the same image of Strider and the Rangers watching out for the strays from the Shire! Lovely! Author Reply: You have that too? Have you written it into a story? Perhaps I ought to know this already, but it's late and I'm short on sleep. Hitting the pillow earlier tonight, in hopes of not being a wreck in the morning.

Have you ever done this anecdote as a story? If not, I'd love to see it fleshed out into one. Not that I'm hinting or anything, I wouldn't want to overwork you... Author Reply: LOL, was just re-reading this for background, glanced at the reviews, and saw this. What a nice, light, story the fleshing out of this anecdote would make. Perhaps it'll come about. Thanks for the nudge!
