Dreamflower's Mathoms I  by Dreamflower 9 Review(s)
Queen GaladrielReviewed Chapter: 23 on 4/23/2006
*wipes eyes* Galadriel was once my nickname (hence the pen name), though my dearest friends have switched to another now, but it's still special to me to read really good fics about Galadriel, and this is one of them. I like this gentler look very much. Of course that conversation would touch her heart, and that last line was absolutely stunning!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: I am so glad then, that you liked this. Her gentler side is not often shown, and yet, it was not her beauty Gimli fell in love with, but her kindness.

I've never thought of Galadriel gathering the soil and seed to put into the box, nor where she might have gotten the box from. A very well placed gift, and a gentler side of Galadriel that is often forgotten.

Author Reply: I think that Sam might have been just the person to bring out her gentler side--he's so humble and unassuming in his wisdom, and his own gentle heart must have impressed her.

*sigh* You tell such beautiful stories!

Galadriel's gift to Sam *was* rather special, wasn't it? While the other gifts to the Fellowship members were helpful for what they would go through on the Quest, only Gimli's and Sam's were not. And Gimli's gift was at *his* request, not thought of by Galadriel. But Sam's ... Sam's was the gift of life and hope.

Sam is like an elf in his special affinity for nature and all things that grow. Since all of Lothlorien will fade away, including the mallorn trees, in a way, Galadriel entrusted the future of Lothlorien to Sam.

You caught what I was aiming for *exactly*! Thank you!

Picked this one at random out of the many. Very lovely and evocative. Felt like I was right there.

Author Reply: Oh thank you! What a nice thing to say!

A wonderful gapfiller. I truly love this one.

Author Reply: I was hesitant at first to try writing Galadriel--she's a bit intimidating, but I took the plunge.

That was beautiful! I like the idea that the box might have held something dear to Galadriel at one point. The conversation she overheard between Frodo and Sam was very sweet, and I like that it was so touching for Galadriel as well. Thank you!

Author Reply: Thank you. I think that Frodo and Sam *did* touch Galadriel's heart. The gifts for them were so perfect.

She would be so concerned about them. How sweet to give Sam the box her daughter had given here. And she knew just what would be appropriate for each of them, probably from visions in the mirrors and reading them when she welcomed them to the Golden Woods.

I've got a bit of catch up reviewing to do havig been out most of the week.

Author Reply: Yes, between her probing of the members of the Fellowship when they arrived, and the viewing in the Mirror, she had a good idea of what she could do to help.

The little box that had contained a gift from her daughter - that is very touching. It is so typical of the things mothers keep. I'm quite surprised that she could bring herself to give it away - although Sam is a most worthy recipient.

Samwise Gamgee - the heir of Galadriel.

Author Reply: Yes, it is rather typical. You'd be surprised at some of the mathoms I have around here, just because they came from my son.

But I think Galadriel knows that she will soon be seeing Celebrian. For she passed the test, and may now go into the West. I don't think she'd keep the little box for its own sake, when it might serve another purpose now.

And I think Sam would indeed be a worthy heir.

"'G,' she murmured. 'G for Galadriel, for Gamgee, for gardener, for gift, for grace, for good, for green, and for growing...'"

"And though the Three might fail, and Lothlorien fade, yet still all would not be gone, nor the Golden Wood forgotten when a lone mallorn made its home in the blessed Shire."

What a beautiful little story with so much emotion - hope, love, loss - the whole gamut! The two lines above have to be my favorite, tho', and certainly dash the illusion of an aloof, uncaring Galadriel. Wonderful, Dreamflower!

Author Reply: Thank you.
I've never felt that Galadriel was aloof or uncaring. Remote, yes, because of her power and her ancient age, she is in some was not really easily understood by mortals or even by some Elves. But just look how kind she was to the Fellowship, from the first moment they set foot in Lorien. It was, after all, her *kindness* and not her Elven appearance, that melted Gimli's heart.
