I've just found your drabbles and this one cracked me up. Of course their first word would be El ;) their way to close to one another to have any other way. Author Reply: I'm glad you're enjoying these - they cover a wide range of topics and characters, but the twins (at all stages of their lives) occur most frequently. What else would their first word be?? They still call one another El even now!

lol. Of course, that's going to be their first word. Whatever were Elrond and Celebrian thinking? :) Author Reply: Like any parents, they were thinking (hoping) that their child's first word would be mummy or daddy. There was a certain amount of rivalry there between them, but they reckoned without the twins themselves!

What else would they say? I think Glorfindel was always onto a loser here, though. Unless he decides to conclude that El all an infant can manage of his three syllables. He might, just to tease. After all - it's more like his name than Nana or Ada. I bet Elrond and Celebrian are surrounded by people who tell them that their elfling was discussing philosophy at six months, was dry at night before they were a year and could read Quenya at two. Parents have the most incredibly elastic and inaccurate memories! Author Reply: Quite. What else would they say? Glorfindel's clever *and* cunning, though: 'Glor-find-el': There! They said my name! I know what you mean about parents with - imaginative - recall!

*giggles* Of course, what else should they say than 'El', considering their strong connection? Elrond and Celebrķan should have expected this, even if parents of course want 'Nana' or 'Ada' for the first word! That was quite amusing! Author Reply: I think that perhaps Elrond and Celebrķan forgot their sons' strong bond - even when the twins are so young. They would have liked Nana or Ada, but it wasn't to be.

And so begins the alphabet names. :) This was cute, Jay. I laughed at Elrond and Celebrian competing to see whose name would be said first. Elven parents aren't all that different than human ones, are they? A parent is a parent is a parent. Very nice! Author Reply: Ah, the alphabet names! I'm glad you remembered them. Ar's not around yet, but I bet the parents would be the same with her. Will it be Ada or Nana?

This was great! I can just see Elrond and Celebrian trying to get their sons to say Nana and Ada and them saying El instead. That was perfect! Author Reply: Well, you know how I like to write the twins. Of course their first word would be 'El'!.

LOL. That's clever. I have to tell you about two colleagues of mine who just adopted a one-year-old Chinese child. She has four words of English: mama, dada, baba (bottle), and kitty-cat. Kitty-cat used to mean the cat who lives in their house, but now it means "I like that and I want it." Author Reply: I like cats. That seems like a good translation to me! My own daughter (now 18) used to say 'wanna bee'. As far as we could tell, it meant much the same thing!

LOL, this one was cute. Author Reply: Well, these are the twins. What do you expect their first word to be??
