For the Love of the Lord of the White Tree  by Legolass 5 Review(s)

Hey there Legolass,I finally got to reading this one again. I think this chapter really set up the story nicely! I like the great portrayal of the guilt and shame on Legolas'part.

I don't know if you'll revise this at this point but I did notice when you were talking about Frodo and Bilbo you wrote hobbit instead of Hobbits. Perhaps I'll just tell you what I liked.

Hi Tiari! I really appreciate that you are making the effort to leave reviews for this story.

Oh yes, I do go back and revise chapters for mistakes when I become aware of them or when they are pointed out to me, and if they're glaring enough, so it's okay for you to tell me about them - thank you. Re the use of "hobbit" that you mentioned, however, it actually wasn't a mistake. :-) I did use "hobbit" for Bilbo alone, followed by (another hobbit) Frodo, the two items being separated by a comma - hence it was the hobbit Bilbo, (the hobbit) Frodo (except I did not use the term hobbit here), and the hobbit Sam. Without the comma, the plural would have been necessary because Bilbo and Frodo would have been lumped together. Sorry for this boring discussion on grammar! But I DO see how it can be confusing for an observant reader like yourself, and I don't mind that you raised the point - it makes me look over what I wrote.

I look forward to hearing from you again, Tiari, and I hope the story appeals to you. Legolas' guilt and shame will have still a part to play before this tale is over.

Mae govannen,
this story is my favourite story and always will be so and I will take it with me all the time in my life. Thank you again, Legolass, for writing it.

It was in Winter last year, when one of my three sons was very ill, while I was reading this story once again. He wanted to know about all the paper around me and I started to tell to him the story... in GERMAN.
(The Kids and I still doing this with all the other stories on evenings before bedtime.)
Then, when he was better, I - at some reason, began writing it down. I´m still busy at it, because there is much work to do. I´m at chapter 18 now. If tere is somebody who wants to read this great story in my language, in GERMAN, can do it there - I will update to chapter 18 soon:

Thank you Legolass
I never will forget that

This is nice... Though I am curious as to what circumstance had Legolas floating... He feels guit, as he holds aragorn in high reguard..

Pipinheart: it's wonderful to still receive reviews from readers after the story is complete. Thank you so much! And you've read a number of chapters - so you already know why Legolas was floating. :-)

I have already read through this story twice now and am bound and determined to review every chapter (you are currently on 32!)...it is that good! Now, since I've a ways to go...

This dream sequence if a very effective way to introduce the doubt that has taken up residence in Legolas' mind. He's really questioning himself, and the guilt he feels in letting his friend down remains. I've always thought that Aragorn's accusation of the failure of the elves of Mirkwood to keep Gollum was somewhat harsh - I know it took him a great deal of time and effort to catch ole' Stinker, and he and Gandalf were understandably concerned because of the part he played as a former Ringbearer...but to ask that question in precisely that way in front of everyone was not well done of him at all. Once more, it's a proven fact that our mouths often runaway from us and once words have been uttered, the damage is done. The image of those words becoming a burning spear
there at the end...a terrible image! Great beginning, Legolass!

Hi, Linda! I was - and am - busy writing up Cahp 33 - when I finally managed to access my #$^%&*!!! msn mail to find several delightful reviews from you.

I am ... awed (to say the least) by your determination to review every chapter, and my gratitude knows no bounds, for by doing so, you pay me the greatest compliment ever. *bow* Thank you.

Because you are taking the time to write a review for each chapter, I, too, will respond. :-)

THis story has really given me much more pleasure and satifaction that I ever imagined I would get from writing fanfic. I really just wanted to pay tribute to a friendship that I think did not get enough treatment in LOTR :-) - but which had to be there, from everything we read about those two men (or a man and an elf, rather). And I am always delighted when others appreciate my telling of it too.

Now, on this chapter: Re Aragron's accusation - I wonder how many readers of the books were taken aback by Aragrons' words. I know I was, though not on the first reading, just in subsequent ones. But I guess that is what makes Aragorn human.

Thank you for the review.

Hello Legolass!
Oh good, I get to be the first review for chapter 1.
First, I really like the title. It caught my attention right away. Your summary was also very well-written. For me, a summary often decides whether I will or will not click on the story.
Hmm, I'm not quite sure what you're doing with Legolas hovering in the air above himself and the council. How does he know how the quest will end? I'm hoping this is something we will understand in later chapters.
This is interesting. Unlike other stories, you leave us somewhat uncertain as to whether Legolas and Aragorn were friends before the whole ring quest started. At first, I got the impression that they were not. Now, with Legolas' obvious distress over his failure, I'm not so sure. This is a good thing because it is one of the things that makes me want to continue reading. What was Aragorn thinking when he was so harsh with Legolas? I love that ranger, but that was clearly a case of Foot-In-Mouth disease.
Poor Legolas! You ask us to feel a good deal of sympathy for him right away, another thing that makes me want to keep going. What will happen next, I wonder? For a first fan fic, this is an excellent beginning.

Aglarendis, thank you very much for your encouraging review. I loved your foot-in-mouth disease observation about Aragorn! I always thought he was too impulsive with that comment of his, but till the very end, Legolas stayed faithful to him. It was what he said to the hobbits (twice, if I recall) - "all who know him (Aragorn) come to love him in their own fashion" and what he did, he did "for the love of the lord of the White Tree" - that inspire this title and this story.

Yes, I think you will get a better picture of what's going on once you get to Chap 2 (and onwards of course). I hope you will continue to walk with me through this story.
