| This is a sad chapter and my heart aches for them both. I like the bit where Aragorn would sit at the window and watch as Legolas would stop and then come back and Aragorn would sag with relief. Didn't spot anything this time either. Author Reply: If your heart ached for them in this chapter, Tiari, I think it might ache even more soon... | This is sad...You can see how the friendship has changed... Aragorn sometimes in his anger says things that hurt Legolas, though he dosen't really mean them.. nice job Author Reply: No he doesn't mean them, but we all do things like that at times, don't we? Thank you for your observation. | |

| I really liked the way you divided this chapter into different sections, depending on the character's POV you were writing at the time. Aragorn does seem weighted down with the burdens and cares of trying to keep his realm safe. It would definitely gall him to have innocent people killed trying to stand against bandits... and for one of them to be a child would not only break his heart, but enrage him as well. He's tired and misses his family and seems very discouraged... Legolas' memories are absolutely heartbreaking to me - and seem to point to the fact that we often lash out carelessly and unthinkingly at those we love and trust the most...after all, they love us and won't leave us, will they? My very favorite line is when Arwen says to Aragorn, "Estel...he knows your heart, my love. Take care of his, too." Wise words. Then you switched to that dark figure sitting in that dark room, brooding and plotting revenge against "the king" who took the light from his life. Now we are introduced to the evil stalking Aragorn and Legolas...but which one? At this point, I didn't know, but I sure didn't like the fact that dark shadows had been seen stalking around the borders of Ithilien and Legolas was going back to check on things. Not good, not good at all! Great chapter! linda Author Reply: Yes, Arwen is a wise person in this tale. After all, she is the daughter of ELrond and grand-daughter of Galadriel. PLus - while the men are gallavanting around and getting themselves almost killed - she has the time to think and ponder. :-) One of the things I am shooting for in this tale is that there are grey areas in practically every aspect of Life -- nothing is ever a clear-cut dichotomy: good-evil, right-wrong, appropriate-inappropriate, etc. Hope it comes across. | "Ai, Valar, I could do without troubles for a spell, he thought hopefully. " They went through all the troubles with the Ring and you keep hoping that things would be settle down and allow them some peace, but even Tolkien says that they still had to keep fighting. And yet I can just see them thinking this. And Legolas and Eigen - how else could an elf be expected to react to what surrounded him? Such a contradiction to the values he holds dear, the respect for nature compared to the brutality of the man's perspective. Another good chapter ... and in coming back and re-reading I'm seeing your foreshadowing and chuckling at my own misconceptions. Actually, this conflcit within Legolas was something that came to me as I was writing it - and the words just flowed. Writing really frees our mind and helps us see things we might otherwise miss, does it not? | |
