Poor Pando, comfortable with one set of friends and now he's in a new situation again. Sounds like he'll be a little lonely for a while but was already warming up to his new Mistress. And who would have though Shefti is an artist at heart. You've found an excellent way to expound to us on your theories of hobbit life. It works wonderfully, and it sounds quite hobbity as well. You have promised us that we will meet Staravion later on in the story. I can't wait to meet this mysterious person who gave Ifram and Shefti such a different outlook on life in Gonder. His influence has caused shifts in the power of their clan from what you have said so far.

This was a nice informative chapter. I enjoyed the description Folco gave to the outland ambassadors of Shire society and Shire life. With just a couple of exceptions, it is very much like my own imagining of the way the Shire is run. ( I tend to think that the Gaffer would not have been alone among working class hobbits to make much of the distinctions, and that there would also have been many among the "gentry" who might have gotten above themselves, so to speak.) I love your description, especially, of the "silent partner" concept. It seems such a very hobbity way of doing business. The framing journey still seems to be going smoothly. I am getting interested in Ifram and especially in Shefti. Now wouldn't it be something if he got apprenticed to a calligrapher/illuminator...I'd take him on in a heartbeat. *grin* Always nice to see someone else who appreciates the letter arts.
