The Prisoner of Dol Guldur  by Soledad 10 Review(s)

I am new to reading Tolkien,(for good or ill the movies led me in, even though i was born the year after the Lord of the Rings was published and all my friends were reading the boxed set in the Seventies) so there is a lot i do not know yet about many of his peoples. You have given me a lovely education about Sylvan Elves in the chapter. So nice to see Thranduil being loving and fatherly. Some writers write him as rather hard, which I could never see. As you have him put it, he had to maintain his realm without the help of a Noldorian trinket, so he would have to be strong and wary. But he raised Legolas, whom we know to be loving and open. So He can't have been too bad! i like your development of Galion in the previous chapter. The poor fellow comes off rather badly where Bilbo fools him in the Hobbit to aid in the Dwarves escape. Good to see the faithful friend of the family he might have been. I also have enjoyed the glimpses of the kind of person Legolas's mother might have been. Since Tolkien does not say much, it leaves a blank canvvas for fan-fiction authors to paint on.

Soledad, this story is getting better and better with each chapter! OMG this is just SO good! I'm REALLY enjoying this story. You're awesome! I can't wait to see how you draw him out, and (as a Legolas lover) how Legolas may help out. :)

Your characterazations are wonderful, even if I've never read the Simirillion and get a bit lost with the names and who's who. I'm still completely hooked, and I hope Enadar fully recovers. He deserves it. You've written him so beautifully; he's just heartbreaking. I love the innocence you've given him, and I REALLY like his Amme. I want one of those! lol I can't stop gushing, which means I need to stop now. :D Keep the chapters comin'! I want more! ;)

Cordophel’s doing a really good job of coaxing Enador back into his skin. Mind you, it helps being the closest thing he can get to his mother. She is good for him. And good at getting Thranduil to do what she wants.

Cordophel is so wonderful, warm, sweet, loving, caring. I want a Cordophel to love me like that sometime. Do you think Enadar would mind if I borrowed her while he was sleeping sometime?

Author Reply: I'm sure he won't object. :)

What struck me most about this chapter was the theme of - over time - coming full circle. I feel that and of course Amme's words give us real hope for for Enadar.

And I agree with you about that quote and the Lindar, whether one of the Faithful or not. ;)

I love how Amme 'knocks on the door' and allows Enadar to 'peek out' So touching and poignant. And the trickle of memories that is coming back to him.

The conversation between Thranduil and Celeborn was interesting too, especially with the glimpse of Galadriel listening in.

Looking forward to your next chapter ...

oh a lovely chapter! I like Amme's introduction, and Thranduil was marvelous, as always. :-)

Author Reply: The Elvenking rules. Definitely. Glad you like it.

There are two strands here that I am just enthralled by. One is the childish nature of Enadar's consciousness right now. It's like he's growing into himself all over again. The other is the magical nature of the wood elves. I love that.

Author Reply: Thanks. :) We pervy Wood-Elf fancier need to stick together, don't we?
And yes, that's the idea exactly. Enadar needs to find back to himself. Even though it'll be a long way.
