I had bookmaarked this to read later, only I get so busy and my list is long. I have finally started it! I like it very much so far. I think you have captured the character of the two brothers already, but particularly Boromir.

I can't write much, but wanted you to know your hard work is being appreciated.

Boromir is my favourite and I am in awe of your story, it is an incredible gift for those of us who love him!

Author Reply: Thank you, I hope you enjoy the rest of the story. Despite his often less than honourable and often misunderstood portrayal, Boromir is a man of great and noble character and I felt that needed to be rectified, at least in my opinion.

Ooh, a bit of a departure for you - Boromir and Faramir with not an elf in sight (yet)! This is a very interesting start. You always write Faramir so well and you've managed to capture Boromir perfectly too.

There's such a poignant sense of longing throughout the whole chapter as Faramir seems to crave some contact with his brother. The memories of moments between the brothers were full of affection and I just love the thought that Faramir gave him this notebook to record everything of his journey. Even more wonderful is the idea that Boromir did so. LOL at him having no quill and ink until he reached Rivendell, though!!

It's very touching that Boromir obviously missed his brother and was so aware that he'd have loved to see Rivendell himself. His reassurance of his own faith in Faramir and certainty that their soldiers and even Denethor believed in and loved him must mean a lot to Faramir now. I can see why he'd need time before he could read any further. I like that even in the peaceful haven of Imladris, Boromir was conscious of doing his best for his home and his people. That love and loyalty was so much a part of his character and there's even that slight hint of desperation, that he'd do anything he could to help Gondor...

I'm really intrigued by this, jenolas! What a great and original way to take a closer look at these two characters :-)

Author Reply: Well there are plenty of Elves in Rivendell, they are just in the background this time.

I see the change from Elves to Men has not altered your perceptiveness and I welcome your insights into this story. As you are aware, Tolkien did not explore in any depth the characters in his books, but there is obviously much that can be read between the lines. Doing so intrigues me and so far it has been both a challenge and a delight to write.

I am pleased you consider my portrayal of Faramir to be well done and I only hope I can do the same for Boromir.

* hugs* take care, Dot

Lovely premise, and look forward to reading more written by Boromir to Faramir.

Author Reply: Thank you.I try to devise a less common approach to some fic, especially ones that deal with relationships and feel is a wealth of inspiration in the strong bond between Denethor's sons. So yes, there is more to come.

Descriptive writing, spot-on characterization, realistic expression of Boromir's probable thoughts. I hope you plan to include more of his journal with us. Thanks!

Author Reply: I am so pleased to read your comments, they answer the questions I had of my approach to this glimpse into the reationship between the brothers, and Boromir's character in particular.

I do indeed plan to continue with more snippets from Boromir's journal for I find it to be a fascinating writing challenge and hopefully it will be an intriguing tale for those readers who are fond these two characters.

Thanks for the review,

jenolas
