| This has made me want macaroni and cheese, or even better, the noodles and cheese you gave the recipe for. :) What a sweet, elder-cousinly thing to do! I wish things were as simple as a comfort food around here when someone gets sick. Wow, pollymer clay? I've seen a few dolls made from it, and I'd love to do such things myself someday, but I just don't know enough right now. And I would like to get to the point where I know whether my sculptures are going to be disastrous or not before experimenting. :) God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: Of course, this recipe is a pre-cursor to today's more familiar macaroni and cheese, and it is really very good. A simple comfort food to perk Pippin up was a comfort to Frodo as well, when he feared things might *not* be so simple. My Pippin is not portrayed as being so sickly as some other writers portray him--by this age he has very nearly outgrown his tendencies to get seriously ill--but his previous history naturally puts Frodo a bit on the anxious side. I love working with polymer clay. You don't need to know a lot to do some incredible things with it--it's forgiving and easy to work with and since it doesn't harden until it's baked, you can't really mess it up much. You should experiment a little if you want to. There are some very quick and simple directions on the internet (Polymer Clay Central) is one such, and the tutorials are fairly easy to follow. Also, the TV program "Carol Duvall" on HGTV frequently has directions for very easy polymer projects. | |

And he had not made it in quite some time." Oh, not only Pippin, lol! I remember ONE TIME when I was a child that my mother made homemade noodles--and I fell in love with them at first bite. I was going to ask you for the recipe until I spied it at the end. But isn't that the truth, though? Whenever I'm sick like Pip, there is usually one type of food or drink that I crave. | I'm so happy to be able to read your stories again! Even a simple story about Pippin being sick and Frodo making him his favourite comfort food is a pure delight. For Pippin not to be his usual peppy self and not to be eating, he must really have felt miserable. The poor lad! Comfort foods work wonders when we are sick, don't they? My personal comfort food is mashed potatoes. I remember when I was little that my Mum would make them for scratch for me when I was ill. 'Pippin gave a weak chuckle, that ended with a cough. “Frodo, I can never decide whether you are lying just to be nice, or whether you simply forget all the trouble I am when you get worried.”' I loved that line - it's very Pippin, cheekiness and fondness even when he is not feeling well. And the description is so like Frodo, too - tender thoughtfulness. The recipe sounds delicious and I very much want to try it out, once I am able to find eggs at the grocery store again. But, pray tell, what were you making out of polymer clay? Author Reply: Comfort food is lovely, isn't it? I'm glad you liked that line. I really liked it, too! Cheeky and fond was just the effect I was going for. The recipe is very good, nice and cheesy! I make all sorts of things from polymer clay. I've even made a polymer!Frodo and a polymer!Pippin. I hope at some point to have Merry, Sam, Freddy and Folco as well. And I made a polymer!Marigold for Marigold, LOL! | |

| Poor Pippin! I`m glad he found some food he would like though, It`s not easy to take liking in food when you`re sick and everything tastes bad. I`ve never made noodles (or pasta) but with this recipe I might try, even if I don`t have a pastamachine. :) Author Reply: It is hard when you are sick and your mouth tastes nasty (as does mine right now, yuck!) to want to eat anything; but comfort food helps. | |

| Macaroni and Cheese hobbit style! My favorite food! Very sweet of Frodo to make Pippin some since that was only thing that sounded good to him! And this was a very good little exchange “Frodo, I can never decide whether you are lying just to be nice, or whether you simply forget all the trouble I am when you get worried.” Now Frodo chuckled. “I did not say you were ‘no’ trouble, just that you were not ‘too much’. And I think I am the best judge of what is too much for me.” Very sweet! Thank you for the story, and the recipe! It certainly soudns tasty, one day I might even get around to trying it! ;) Author Reply: I'm pretty fond of it myself; like mushrooms, there can never be too much cheese! Poor pip...So sick with only Frodo to tend to him. All he wants is Frodo's Noodles and cheesse. Nice story,and the recipie sounds good too.. Author Reply: Yes, poor Pip. But I think it might be rather pleasant to have Frodo to tend one while one is sick...*grin* I'm glad you like the story--maybe you can try out the recipe! | |

| Mmmmm, mac and cheese! Too bad he didn't have any paprika to sprinkle over it. Frodo shouldn't be too worried about Pippin not eating though. Once he starts feeling better, he'll be eating him out of hole and smial to make up for lost time. :) Author Reply: Well, yes, he probably will--and wanting things a lot less nourishing than Frodo's homemade noodles and cheese! But you know hobbits, and how worried they get when one of them is off his feed! | |

| Oh, I can so relate to how Pippin is feeling in this story. I feel just about the same way right now. I even was craving mac and cheese. So yesterday I made a batch, but it just didn't do the trick. I think I need the real home-made kind, like you described, instead of that junk out of a box.:) Also nice job working the tea and tonic story into this. Thanks for sharing both the story and the recipe. Connie B. Author Reply: Well, you can always dress up the boxed stuff--I often do if time is a factor: a lot of extra cheese, use canned milk or cream instead of regular milk, and add an egg--stick it in a casserole dish and sprinkle on *more* extra cheese and pop it in the oven for a few minutes--you can hardle tell it's boxed after that. I've worked it into a couple of my stories. I just loved that round-robin! You're welcome! | |

| Nothing like pampering a Pippin. “I did not say you were ‘no’ trouble, just that you were not ‘too much’." That's a very perceptive comment from Frodo. (What does SCA stand for?) Author Reply: It's always lovely to see one of the cousins pampering another, isn't it? And Frodo doesn't often get the chance to pamper--he's usually the pamperee! And Frodo's nothing if not perceptive. SCA--stands for the Society for Creative Anachronism. It's a Medieval re-creation group I belong to. In fact I just came home from a day at the 14th annual Gulf Wars, a little war involving about 3500 good friends and friendly enemies. Our biggest event is Pennsic, in August, in upstate NY, with about 10.000 participants. | |
