ET's Dribs and Drabbles  by Elena Tiriel 4 Review(s)

A wonderful look at the continuing erosion of their mutual antagonism, and the realization they are brothers at heart.

Author Reply: Yes, I think so.... at that moment, Gimli changed from being "a warrior" to "my brother-in-arms", and I think that Gimli, too, in retrospect would realize that Legolas was looking out for his welfare as a fellow warrior.

Thanks for your words!

I like this! When Legolas drags Gimli from Balin's tomb, we see a change in their relationship. You captured this beautifully. Nice!

I think that Legolas really began to care about Gimli's feelings there... before, he recognized him (maybe) as "a warrior", but after, he became "my fellow warrior". Too bad his prayer that Gimli be spared any more grief didn't come true.

Awww. Poor Gimli. Excellent depiction of Leggy's lightbulb moment of starting to understand the dwarf...

I think that "lightbulb moment" really describes it well; Legolas' attitude seems to have turned around completely at that moment.

I always loved that line that you quoted at the end because when I read Fellowship for the first time it stood out to me as a real change between them. I have always loved stories that explore that transformation. Again, well done 100 word moment. It's funny how little things like that, in real life, can make a difference in our views. Well captured here.

I really think that moment did create a turnaround in their relationship, from "this squat, sturdy stranger" to "my fellow warrior"... But it also saddens me that Legolas' prayer that Gimli be spared any further grief didn't come true... Gandalf fell from the bridge such a very short time later.
