I remember reading this chapter on FFN. Will try to follow it through now. Author Reply: Must have been LJ. I haven't posted on FFN in awhile. Need to finish posting the two unfinished ones there, but there's not enough time in the day to do everything.

Nasty old Rosie Bracegirdle! And poor Woodruff! (I wonder what happened to her little brother and sister????) It's a good thing that Sweetbriar seems to be a star of a hobbit . . . and with a nice grandson. It's going to take a lot to build Woodruff's confidence after the last years of being told how useless she is. And what a start to their relationship! So Woodruff's start in the care of Tooks was the birth of young Pippin - and he's been making her work hard at keeping him healthy ever since. Good story. Author Reply: The little brother and sister were little and "cute", being younger, and were taken in by two other hobbit families in the area. Ah, yes, I do like Sweetbriar and her grandson Ted. Well, one thing about being told how useless she is--she's the type who would be driven to excel, to prove the speaker wrong, and so she's learned a whole lot more than she might've, if she'd been comfortable and complacent. On the other hand, she'll likely learn a whole lot more now with love as her teacher. (And more pleasantly)

Another interesting perspective! Poor Woodruff! That Bracegirdle *deserves* to be related to Lobelia, the old hag (both of them). I see that Woodruff is going to have some serious self-esteem problems to overcome, thanks to her "benefactor".

Well now! How delightful -- a tale that seems to be well worth the reading! I'm looking forward to the next chapter, very much, and thank you for the excellent description and adventure so far. Woodruff seems to be a very likable and interesting character -- she's certainly taken my attention. Best to you! Jeodo Brandybuck

It's very interesting to read a bit of background. I didn't realize it was Woodruff until the end.

O, what wonderful history to her! I like it :P That wretched old Rosie! (Although I am sure that her cruelty in some way helped Woodruff to turn into the healer that she is). Am not surprised to find her a relation of the notorious S-Bs. Pippin is going to be born! Is Merry going to be there? I hope so :) Keep up the great work...and I also like the title to this one too!

Good chapter. I'm so glad Woodruff is away from that old hag Rosie. I wasn't overly surprised to find out the old biddy was related to Lobelia. No wonder Woodruff has a special place in her heart for Pippin. I like this idea. I like Woodruff's new mistress. She seems like a positive person who respects most people and has faith in those around her. I think Woodruff is going to grow a lot under her teaching. One little typo I noticed was that you referred to Ted as Tim in the excitement of healer and apprentace leaving to attend the birth. Oh, please write more of this soon. Connie B. Author Reply: oops. Must be Ted's twin. Just kidding. Still, there's an interesting idea. Mischievous twins, switching off... No, too complicated, with the draft already written. But an idea for the future, if not too hackneyed. Thanks for the catch!

That grasping old battle-ax! (But then again, what more could we expect from a Bracegirdle and a cousin of Lobelia?)Well, at least the child is well shed of the old biddy. Your stories often provoke some kind of strong reaction in me, and Rosie Bracegirdle reminds me unpleasantly of a real-life relative of mine. Grrr. Author Reply: I remember reading in JRRT's letters that Lobelia herself was fashioned after a real-life person. LOL! Rosie is in good company! Well, she's more or less out of the story now. Might make one more appearance, might not. Depends on what happens to the draft as it gets typed in. Thanks!

Ah, so she was there at his birth - very kewl - enjoying this tale! Author Reply: Yep! I love the irony of her being at his birth, and at so many of his near-deaths... Wait, that doesn't sound quite like I thought it would sound...
