Ah, Pippin the nimble-fingered, is he? Heh! Love Merry and Pippin showing more care in choosing pebbles for Frodo than for themselves. Already they'll spoil him! Author Reply: Yes, he shows his talent at a very early age! Of course they already spoil him--it's their specialty, and they've been at it as long as they can remember.

I'm pretty sure I read this before but I don't remember if I reviewed it! I really like this story, and I'm so glad you linked to it in your LJ today. It's the perfect story for wee!hobbit day. I love the cousins here, and all the wee and young hobbits playing together. It's very sweet :) Author Reply: Thanks! I think that's the "wee-est" I've written Pippin! I'm so glad you liked it. I'm going to continue to link my wee!hobbit stories in more or less chronological order, so look for another batch soon...

Awww! Very cute! Of course Pippin would want to be a part of everything, even as a baby! :) God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: Well, he's no intention of being left out of anything, right from the start!

Awww - our first look at the four Travellers together! Stones sounds like a lot of fun to play, and more than a bit like playing jacks. Leave it to Merry and Sam to be so careful and thorough about picking the stones for Frodo. Even back then, they took excellent care of him. And Pippin! Following the stones with his big green Tookish eyes, so adorable. He's already showing signs of great intelligence the way he is so alert to all movements. I know, I'm a bit partial, but you already knew that. Author Reply: "Stones" is my hobbity version of a game that was actually a historical ancestor of jacks. I think you are right about them taking care of him, *grin*. Yes, he was certainly alert, even then. Fast--and you'll note it was heading directly for his mouth, LOL! It has just occurred to me that you are following my chronology! I'm so glad someone's finding it useful! It's in woeful need of an update, but the last time I tried it, my log-in expired before I could hit "save changes". I'll have to try again soon.

Ah, how cute! Baby Pippin is always adorable and he shows the signs already of his trouble making ways. Author Reply: And nimble fingers, too! *grin*

More nice fluff! And a very good, concise explanation of "places" in the Shire, especially that it is the Gaffer who wishes to enforce the unwritten rules, and not the gentry... (for Sam's own protection, of course) Author Reply: Definitely, it's the Gaffer's idea; it's certainly the last thing on Frodo's mind, Bilbo doesn't care, and Merry's too young to understand, and wouldn't care if he did. But the Gaffer is not going to lose sight of what is important to his way of thinking.

Aww! That was so adorable! I love wee!Merry, you know that, right? And i love your take on him. :) I also love your take on the friendship between Merry and Sam too. Author Reply: I'm so glad you like my wee!Merry; I have a lot of fun with Merry and Sam being friends when they are little, before the Gaffer makes Sam get all "proper"--but I can see it as being a factor when Merry decides to take Sam into his confidence for the Conspiracy.

I loved Sam reaction to the 'baby'. He likely had seen quite enough of them in his time. I also enjoyed the image of Sam and Merry selecting stones together. Too bad that Sam could always play like the other lads. Sweet story! Author Reply: Yes, I'm sure Sam had seen plenty. Merry probably had too, at Brandy Hall, but of course, none of *them* were *his* Pippin... I could just imagine them trying to make sure Frodo got the best stones. Glad you enjoyed it.

That was quite cute! It shows how close they were even as children, and it is in a way a first glimpse how they became the four travellers. Look forward to more of this! Author Reply: Yes, my idea is that the friendship does go all the way back to childhood, especially Merry and Sam.
