I think Sam was always afraid that once Frodo got back to Buckland among the kin he'd grown up with, that he would not want to come back to Bag End. He knew how much Frodo loved Merry, and he'd not seen the melancholy that being near the River brought on. | |

| These are four very nice drabbles on the different perspectives of our four hobbit lads. It also shows how interrelated they all were. It is a shame that Frodo's heart was still lonely once he moved to Bag End, away from the river. But although he had other friends, as we are told by Tolkien, the two he was closest to were Merry and Pippin. No wonder Sam and Merry get along so well - they both worry and fret over Frodo something awful! Author Reply: I think you know by now that the interrelatedness of these four is somewhat of an obsession with me. Frodo would have remained lonely no matter *where* he was. His parents' deaths had left a gaping hole that Bilbo and the others could ever only partially fill. And he would definitely miss Merry most at the beginning of his life at Bag End, and would be eager to see him when the time for his visit neared. | |

| Poor Sam, always in fear his Frodo won't return. And Pippin's was funny. I'm sure everyone was always glad to see Merry and Frodo arrive, lol. Author Reply: I could imagine that everytime Frodo went to visit his family elsewhere, it must have worried Sam, knowing as he did how Frodo missed Merry. I figured a bored Pippin pining for Merry and Frodo would have been a menace--and we *know* what kinds of trouble boredom landed him in when he got a bit older, LOL! | |

| I never enjoyed waiting either. I enjoyed this one, especially Sma's part. He must have been lost whenever Frodo was away once he became attached to him. So sweet. Author Reply: Yes, I could imagine Sam, especially in his younger years right after Frodo had come to live at Bag End, worrying that Frodo would want to stay in Buckland whenever he went back for a visit. | |

| Awwww... they just can't be without one another. Pippin's was my favorite though -- I'm sure his sisters are just as anxious as he is for Frodo and Merry to return! Very sweet! :) Author Reply: Yes, I imagine Pearl, Pimmie and Vinca get the brunt of their baby brother's boredom when he's forced to do without his cousins! LOL! I just thought I'd establish a little thing that's in the background of all my pre-Quest stories, of how they have their annual round of visiting one another. | |
