It's nice to get Merry's perspective on events, but this chapter seemed strangely passive and detached. Almost as if Merry was just observing while interesting events were going on just around the corner. But I suppose that leaving Lothlorien must be kind of like that, like coming out of a dream. Author Reply: I see what you mean. Tolkien writes Frodo`s thoughts and what Gimli and Legolas are talking about, but I think that Merry would not hear what they are saying and he could of course not read Frodo`s thoughts. I picture leaving Lothlòrien as coming out of a dream, and I`m glad that came through. More action is coming though. :)

It's wonderful to hear Gimli referred to as "a fine and sensitive person". And I really like this a lot: "This was all too grand for him to put into words, and when Frodo and even Merry failed to describe the beauty of it adequately, then Pippin had decided he`d not even start to try and would simply try to remember the beauty as best he could with his heart and mind." Your lovely story reminds me of one I wrote three years ago called "Whispers of the Dragon" (which was largely AU). I need to get around to posting it on this site someday! The Fellowship spent so many days on the River, and it's fun to imagine what they might have talked and thought about. Looking forward to more! :D Author Reply: Thank you! I think Gimli has his sensitive spots and the hobbits bring out the emotions in the rest of the Fellowship so I`m guessing he is getting in touch with his more and more as they travel. I`d love to read your story on it. I can`t say I`ve read it before! More to come soon!
