Oh, I like this chapter much better. There was a nice mix between what Merry was thinking about and what he was doing. I liked the interaction between him and Pippin and Boromir. It must have been rather dull just canoeing down the Anduin, especially with Boromir getting grimmer and grimmer. They must have found something to chat about. And how very hobbit-like that they chatted about geneology and family pleasures and pastimes. Author Reply: Thanks! Yes I think it must have been dull too, and it`s a challenge to find something realistic they could have done. :)

It's very cousin-y of Merry to not frighten Pip about why they need to conserve provisions. Your hobbits are so sweet with one another. Author Reply: Thank you! Merry always does his best to not frighten or upset Pip, and running low on food is a scary thing for hobbits. :)
