Dreamflower's Mathoms I  by Dreamflower 5 Review(s)

Oh, poor Freddy! I haven't even read "For Folco" yet (I'm a little worried about that one, as such things tend to turn me into a basket case in a matter of minutes), and still the thought of him being killed for who knows what unjust, cruel reason just breaks my heart. *wipes eyes*
God bless,
Galadriel

I've often wished I had not had to write "For Folco". But once the idea took hold, I could not shake it. Poor Folco.

That last line says it all. Freddy had so much on his shoulders once he took on the responsibility of Captain to the renegades. He will likely feel that pressure the rest of his life, for he'll always remember the ones he did lose. Just beautiful.

Author Reply: Yes, Fredegar ended up having to take on the rebellion without ever having the sort of experience and training that enabled Merry and Pippin to succeed, and his fate is what would have befallen them (if not worse) had they been in the Shire themselves during the Troubles.

And, like the others, he will never forget what he went through.

Okay, first, you need to put in your chronology that this drabble is located in your Mathoms. It took me a little bit to find it.

Next, I think that's a very accurate summation of how poor Freddy felt. The poor thing was left to fight the battle at home, without any of the training or guidance that the four travellers received but with a full realisation of the very real dangers they all faced. And to fight it after having just lost his dearest friend - my heart goes out to him. Freddy is as fine and brave a hobbit as there is.

Author Reply: Thanks! With so many stories, It's inevitable that I miss a couple, or not get all the info in. I'll fix it shortly.

You've described it exactly. Freddy is intelligent enough, though he's kept it hidden up till now, but he has no training or preparation for this sort of thing. It was inevitable that they sooner or later get caught, and unfortunately, Freddy knew that. But I agree, Freddy was just as brave as his four friends who went on the Quest, he was just brave in a different way.

I understand just how Freddy feels. Lovely. Don't know what happened to Folco, but love Freddy's determination to get revenge.

Author Reply: Folco's fate is in my story "For Folco". Suffice it to say it is the only character death I've written so far. And I didn't want to do it, but the plot bunny would not leave me alone until I did.

Ooo, you gave me shivers!

Well done!

Author Reply: Poor Freddy, it must have really weighed on him, the thought that these hobbits were looking to him; and he didn't have the knowledge or preparation Merry and Pippin recieved on the Quest. It was a miracle that they only ended up in the Lockholes and not dead.
